Texas-Dallas and Ft. Worth

FFF

Ready.

Set.

FLAME!!!!

I kind of hope the person who was driving southbound full speed on the northbound side of 35 crashed his car. Not wishing bodily injury but hoping that he was stopped somehow before someone got hurt.

I don't normally participate in FFF but today there is too much to say.

I don't know much about much, but I do know that just because something may be your "right" to do it, doesn't mean that's it's the right thing to do. Burning any religious book is so incredibly rude and disrespectful. I'm embarrassed to be associated with that pastor as a Christian and an American.

Our new moderator is INFINITELY better then our last one. If she doesn't agree she's not rude and tries to make others feel stupid. She is very supportive and a great neutral ground! I'm glad we've passed the torch. I think the girls that are here are nicer girls then when I first started posting.

***WARNING! DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE A SENSITIVE STOMACH*****

A "friend" of mine put her pregnancy pee stick as her picture on facebook. That is disgusting! You just defecated/pee-ed on that. It has your waste on it. This is not a cute or exciting or happy picture. It's gross. How would you like it if I posted a picture of a used feminine hygiene picture to show that I reached that milestone?! You wouldn't! I'm seriously considering deleting her as a "friend".

I actually witnessed an accident caused from something like this on 35E northbound about 5 years ago, it really scarred me. It was about 1 am, and I was driving home from my BF's (at the time) apt in Denton, heading southbound. It was the most awful thing I'd ever seen in my life. He killed 4 people in a car that he hit head on. They were all North Texas students, and they died instantly. I saw all the bodies on the ground, and it was the most graphic thing I had ever seen. I think it took me months to recover from that.

I would hope he didn't crash, and he sure as hell didn't crash into anyone else.

    My FFF today:

I flame knotties who come here asking for advice/opinions on little wedding details, and when people try and give them advice and different perspectives-i.e. "bigger picture" perspectives, they completely ignore it. Better yet, sometimes argue with it. I'm not talking major wedding decisions. I'm talking small stuff. Then they're back the next week, stressing out again about something else.

I have no sympathy for you and the gray hairs you're producing, stressing over these things. You're doing it to yourself. People try and tell you to focus on the bigger picture, only because it will make things easier on you, but you choose to ignore it...so...I guess you're destined to stress for the rest of your engagement!

I posted something exactly like this on FFF last week, I do believe. The better part was, she posted it THE DAY she found out she was pregnant. Oh, and that was her 2nd pregnancy in like 2 months. The first one she also posted the day she found out, and then had a miscarriage a week later. You would think she would learn.

Renee - I am soooooo with you on your first point! I am also with you on your second point, just not as strongly as the first. But on the pee sticks, I don't know, it just doesn't really bother me for some reason. But it takes a lot to gross me out.

I flame girls who hang out on these boards who are not even engaged yet! Ugh...it drives me boonkers! You don't have to have a ring to be engaged but for heavens sake wait until he asks you! What is the rush to be engaged if you are happy (or not) a peice of paper (a marriage license) wont change anything....It just seems needy and desperate to me. These boards are for people planning a wedding. I never even looked at wedding related things until I was engaged...so it doesnt make since to me to try on wedding dresses before you even have a groom!!!

Ok rant done! (for now haha)

And yes I like Brianna as our moderator...not that Mariah wasnt good but she didn't really participate in anything. Brianna is a good moderator and posts on almost everyones post :)

Agreed. I had no desire to plan a wedding before I was engaged, nor did it EVER occur to me to do so. That just seems odd to me. I don't understand the rush, either. I know, "venues fill up quickly", but I think that's an excuse, really. I think it's BS. I think that's an excuse to start looking at wedding stuff because you want to be engaged, when you're not yet. I'm sure a LOT of people will disagree with me on this, because I know several knotties on here booked stuff before they were engaged, I've just never, ever understood that. If you want a certain venue, wait until you're engaged and see what they have available at the time. If they don't have anything for 2 years, there are other venues out there...I PROMISE! Look at all these knotties who book venues and change their minds because there are SO many options!!

ETA: I don't know...in short, it just seems a little "cart before the horse" to me.

I also flame that this board has been UBER slow this week!
  • edited December 2011
Don't have anything really specific to flame.  I'm just slammed since my boss decides to take a week vacation and leave me with all the work before a 3-day client meeting in Chicago.  Um - you knew you were leaving and didn't get sh!t done beforehand.  Thanks.  Well, I guess that was specific.

Pretty much every little thing is annoying me so I won't even get started on here.

But not to be Debbie Downer, we finally chose a place for rehearsal dinner - Cafe Izmir.  I love that place and not sure why I didn't think of it sooner.  They're super nice and super responsive.  Just what I needed this week.

Ok ladies - have a good Friday and great weekend.  Talk to you on Monday.

I was on here before I was engaged. But I rarely posted and I didn't do any actual planning. I gathered names of vendors and some ideas, but I never ventured off the boards (still don't, really) and I didn't book anyone before we were engaged. I was very adamant about that one. This will always be a hot button issue. In my case, we were together for five years and living together for almost four before we got engaged, and I knew it was on the way.

My FI and I have been together 5 years, living together for 4 years too :) and we had a house built two years ago together, So I knew it was on the way too.

But I didn't even know what theknot was before I was engaged hahaha. I wish I would have found it sooner though only because everyone is so helpful and has a million different options that you don't even realize. I was engaged for a few months before I found this site.

I'm in a similar situation to Anna... my FI and I have been together for almost 7 years, and we have a 3 year old daughter, only I didn't even know about the boards until after I was engaged.

Did I think about wedding stuff? Yeah.  Did I look around a little? Sure.

Did I ask for any quotes?  NO!  Did I book anything?  Heck no!

I always felt like people would look at me crazy if I would start planning with no ring... but again, like I said to Lyss... it depends on their situation (and that goes for everyone)... if there's a commitment there, ring or not, you are engaged.  DFWIndian was active and attended a G2G before she officially got the ring... but her FI was even helping her plan their formal engagement... so in my mind, they were engaged, just no ring.  It's really a case by case scenario.

Now, Project Husband lady is in a league of her own... that woman is nutzo.

This was similar for me and I was with FI when he bought the engagement ring but he said just because I knew he bought it he was still going to propose on his own terms which was almost 8 months later.  I came on the knot to get an understanding of realistically what we would be spending so we could start saving but never even booked or inquired with vendors for anything other than general prices.

I have a friend (the one who got married last weekend, actually) whose then-boyfriend actually told her to start planning the wedding before he proposed because he wanted to start saving. If Courts had said that to me, I would have said Oh heeeeell no! If you're going to insist on doing the big fancy proposal, then I have to insist on waiting to actually start making plans until you get your butt in gear and do it!

Being engaged without a ring and planning is fine. Not being engaged, and still being in the "Boyfriend/girlfriend" stage and actively planning your wedding is totally different.

Being engaged without a ring is still being engaged. But I think a lot of times girls think "Oh, well I know we're going to get married because we talk about it...I just don't have a ring yet...so we're engaged, right?" No, wrong. That's not what being engaged means. You can be deeply committed to someone, great. Even committed to marrying them sometime in the future, that doesn't really mean you're engaged yet.

If DH had told me to plan the wedding before we were engaged, I would have told him he was nuts, and he couldn't pay me to do that.

I agree.  Talk is just talk. Doing it is a whole different thing.  Someone can say they're going to quit smoking, but that doesn't mean anything until you do it.  I was in a similar situation to Anna where we were together for 4 years and living together for 2 years and still wouldn't even think about planning anything until we were "official".  I was on the boards a lot before, but I was the wedding coordinator for several friends/family before me, but it was mostly for research and help.  My ideas for my own wedding were totally different from theirs too.

I was going to chime in on this one! My parent's aren't too keen on the dating thing. the only thing which kept them from taking us to India and doing it there was to start planning. My sister actually only got proposed to 6 months before the wedding. It was a month before the formal engagement. By then she had most of her plans done. It is really common in our communities for this to happen. I don't know too many Indian girls who waited on the ring to start wedding plans. Most of the guys will propose right near the formal engagement time.

Case by case or culture by culture.

This has nothing to do with FFF but you know how my coworkers son is getting married in November and they took a trip to Vegas earlier and she had a major freak out about them possibly eloping?  Well a lot of our students are having kids and in the middle of talking to one yesterday she said that she's been researching car seats, trying to find her son and FI one, who she is pushing to have kids.  "Well they are getting married, they need to have kids because I want grandkids."  Overstepping much?  At least we were not given a car seat as a wedding present.

Hee, sorry, Renee sort of beat me to it.  I just hate it when people who profess to be "Christians" and preachers of the Gospel show NONE of the tolerance, respect, and love that Christ himself emanated.  The people responsible for 9-11 bombed the World Trade Center because they were EVIL, not because they were Muslim.  This so-called "preacher's" actions are no less extreme and only fuel the existing hatred of Christians and Americans.  This hatred is not of the God that I know and serve.

Oh and no proposal = no engagement, sorry.
