I think some people misunderstood what I meant. I understand that different cultures have different ways of going about marriage.

Example: (Totally made up but so you understand what i mean) I am talking about the girl who has been with her boyfriend for under two years, they haven't even talked about an official commitment and she is on here posting about wedding related stuff. I just figure WHOA hold your horses! If you are truely meant for one another and do plan on spending the rest of your lives together (which we can assume is about 50 years) you can wait another couple of years to start planning a wedding. :)

We went to 2 bridal show things before we were engaged, both were suggested by DH as something to do a few months before the proposal.  We joked about 8 months into our relationship that we should get married on NYE but it wasn't until about 6 months before the proposal that we were seriously debating 12/31/09 or 12/31/10.  If I could rewind time and get our money back, we wouldn't have gone to either.

While I had been with my then bf for over 2 years, and we had been talking about marriage quite often, I was not about to start any planning for a wedding.  I waited until he popped the question, and then I got in high gear (we married 8 months later)!

As for the Quran (Koran), it technically can be spelled either way in English.  Since it is an Arabic name, the English spelling is based on pronunciation, and they both are considered grammatically correct.  However, I agree with everyone's posts that this should not be burned.  It is so disrespectful, right up there with burning the bible or American flag.

What gets me is that Obama says that he is fine with them building the Mosque next to ground zero, because they have every right (which they do), but will not try and meet with them to persuade them differently since it offends the victims of 911.  But he will send all of his department heads to meet with this guy to persuade him not to burn the Koran, since it will offend Muslims.  Baloney!

It boils down to ignorance. If you are a "Christian" then you should do your best (because not everyone is perfect, we can all agree to that) to follow that lifestyle...which does not include defaming other religions.

I feel like they should take a second to try and learn about other religions and cultures to see what it is exactly that they "hate" so much. Because surely this "Christian" cannot grasp that the Muslim religion believes in the same God that Christians do...the main difference of the belief is in Jesus vs. Mohammed

But besides that point, because religion is never a good thing to debate on chat forums haha

I will never understand someone claiming to be religious and then acting out of so much hatred...it is the exact opposite of what you should try to represent

So I'm not goign to flame my husband, but I am very annoyed with him.  I was in a rush yesterday morning b/c some inconsiderate person scheduled a meeting to start at 8am.  I don't usually show up until 8:30 or so, and had forgotten about it until I was almost late.  So I left my cereal bowl in the sink.  HE came home for lunch (which he never does), was annoyed that I didn't put the dish in the dishwasher, so he went and stuck it on my bed.
(note, he moved in to my house, we bought new furniture and put it in the 'guest' room, and that became our room.  Due to lack of closet space, I kept all my clothes in the old room, and he got the closet in the new room.  He put the bowl on my old bed)
I'm working on keeping the common space picked up, and am doing much better than I was before he moved in, but to me that was so passive agressive and rude.  It really ticked me off.

My culture partially works like yours, but in order to get to the engagement ceremony and wedding etc... the families had to meet up have a formal "understanding".  It's pretty much a proposal without getting on one knee.  And when the guy actually gets down on one knee before the formal engagement, it's just a formality at this point.

So in that sense, I would like to add to Stephie's comment:

no formal commitment/proposal = no engagement

I knew a guy that bought the ring, talked about marriage, etc.. etc.. but because his gf kept bothering him and planning stuff, it really turned him off and then they had to have a really long "talk" about waiting.  Now I'm not saying the guy is right or anything or that there may not have been other issues, but it's this comittment thing.  Maybe he wanted her to trust him and let it be and by trying to push/rush things, the full trust was not there.  So unless there is a formal commitment (or prosoal depending on your culture), there is no engagement.

I agree.  I understand the point to pro-creation, but there is a responsibility to both you and your child's health, emotional and mental well-being, financial standing (which I don't think they have issues here).  There is no way anyone can have enough time to give enough attention to raise each child like they should be raised.  I understand the whole older children take care of the younger ones, but that's not supposed to be their main responsibility when it is the <strong><u>parents'</u></strong> responsibility.

    This is from the website!!!

"Four years later they decided to have their first child. Then, Michelle went back on the pill, but she conceived and had a miscarriage. At that point they talked with a Christian medical doctor and read the fine print in the contraceptives package. They found that while taking the pill you can get pregnant and then miscarry. They were grieved! They were Christians! They were pro-life! They realized that their selfish actions had taken the life of their child. They prayed and asked God to forgive them, and to teach them to love children like He loves children. They asked God to bless them with as many children as He saw fit in His timing."

    What a bunch of nuts!!!

It's true that there is a slightly higher chance of complications/miscarriage if you get pregnant while on the pill or other forms of birth control. But, it's still 99% effective if you use it correctly, so that means your chance of miscarriage while on the pill comes out to something like .02%?

I agree that the Duggars are whack. But I still watch the show if it's on.

And for those who found the knot after they were engaged, that could be part of the reason why you were never on the knot or thinking about vendors until after you were engaged? Just a thought! :)
