There is a forum for this show over on TV Without Pity and they refer to the daughters as J-slaves. So fitting.

My take on the Duggars is that they always had 20 in mind as the magic number. It makes me sick because the older girls on the show have been quoted as saying that they know their mom's cycle like their own. Every female in that house knows when the parents are doing it and they know the second she is pregnant.

I also think the whole "we are open to having another kid" article in people, was a PR softening the blow for when they announce #20. They know people are going to be pissed after #19 was so early. I think she is already pregnant.

    Flaming makes me feel snarky.

But I don't understand the whole throw away plates and disposable champagne glasses for a wedding... it just seems so... not very nice to me.

Unless you're having a wedding at a dance hall or somewhere MAJOR casual... I think your plates/glasses should be actual glass.

This message was inspired by a recent post.  Please, keep the real glasses.

<div>That's a whole different ballpark. The Duggar's (parents) focus on the newest baby, especially now with the preemie, and leave the other kids in the care of the older girls. It's not like an everyday sibling relationship, like having to watch your sibling for a little while, playing with them, helping them and so on. They have 4 kids under the age of 5 right now who are at some of the most important years of their development, I just don't think they are able to provide that.</div>

Totally agree with you there! Just because you CAN reproduce doesn't mean you SHOULD. I feel bad for the older kids for having to play the mommy role and I feel bad for the younger kids for not getting as much attention from the parents as the older kids. UGH. Oh Brianna, I love you :)

We used disposable plates AND cups/champagne glasses at our wedding. It was easier, cheaper, and nobody cared. Not to mention, way less clean up afterwards, and we didn't have to worry about anything being broken on accident. We had several rowdy guests, as well as small children.

I don't even know what kind of plates, that's how much I don't remember/didn't care. The caterer provided the plates for the food, and we bought clear plastic cups and champagne/wine glasses at Party City.

I'm not saying that older children shouldn't have responsibilities raising the younger ones (this is how Montessori schools work), because it always happens and I think it's good to have them learn responsibility, sharing, etc... and they have to baby sit sometimes too...

I'm talking about 19 kids, I don't know their ages, but at least 9 are under 12.  So if you have 24 hours in a day and then calculate about 7 hours for sleeping, the two younger ones probably need 30 minute feedings every 4 hours.  Then you have to cook, do homework, etc... etc... when do you have time to bond with every child every day?

I am the oldest of 5 children and had A LOT of responsibilities with my younger siblings because we were spaced out.  It was hard for my parents to give attention to every child as much as they needed (and each child is different).  I couldn't imagine 19 of us.  I had to go to counseling when I got older because I had to learn the boundaries between being a parent (with true authority) and just being a sister (can give guidance, but cannot expect to be treated as a true authority, because I'm not one).

    Just saying...

We are using plastic plates and cups too. The plates are the clear thicker plastic, but they are still plastic nonetheless.

It was a money thing for us - our budget was so tight by the time we got to the caterer, we had to cut everywhere we could. I agree with PP that it will probably be easier for clean-up and no one will really even care.

Regarding selling the wine glasses - I have to agree with her, using plastic plates and real wine glasses just seems like more of a hassle than going plastic-plastic.

I may be a little late on this.. but I didn't understand the need to start planning before the engagement and why there was a need to encourage it.

I totally understand if you are bound of religious, cultural, or other reasons out of your control to start planning your wedding, but why jump the gun if you are not obligated?

So many things can happen over such a long period of time, and why not enjoy each phase of the relationship as is, and let things flow naturally? Dresses, venues, photographers, etc. will always be there.

I am not discounting the relationship or anything like that, but  I don't understand why a person would want to plan their wedding prior to actually being engaged.

I agree 110%.  I didn't plan ANYTHING until we were engaged... but I feel like I should have waited even a couple months longer to book anything.  And our engagement is right at a year long... there are SO many options out there... and I really thought that I researched a ton, but it turns out, I missed alot of options.

I don't get the big deal made by so many people about pregnancy test pictures. If I saw someone's positive results, I'd be excited for them, not think "OMG, once upon a time, the last inch of that test that's hiding under that cap had urine on it!!" Seriously. It's really not that gross.
