Really Giselle??? REALLY??

I have no idea why i am so pissed off about this, but Giselle Bundchen just said the following in Harpers Bazaar:

I think breastfeeding really helped me keep my figure. Some people here (in the US) think they don't have to breastfeed, and I think 'Are you going to give chemical food to your child when they are so little?' I think there should be a worldwide law, in my opinion, that mothers should breastfeed their babies for six months."

Keep in mind this is the same asshat who said labor was painless. I'd really like to kick her in her larynx.

Breastfeeding does burn a lot of calories, it's quite a process to make milk apparently.

Yes, I agree that it is best for both you and the baby.  But I don't want to make it a law.  I mean hello, freedom?

I agree with you in principle, but I wouldn't make it a law. Just like I don't think people should have 4+ kids, but I would never want a LAW in place to regulate people's reproductive decisions. There's a difference between campaigning for an idea which you think is the best choice and wanting to regulate it, which means consequences for those who disagree with you. Legal consequences.

  • Many woman who "cant" just didnt honestly try hard enough.  Of course if you CANT- like literally, truly, honestly can not- then there's nothing you can do.

But I had one of the hardest experiences I've ever heard of and I managed to breastfeed til my daughter was 7 months old.

I think most American woman just dont want to be inconvenienced.

I think that's a major generalization.  My friend had breast reduction surgery and was told when she had the baby that she literally CAN NOT breast feed.  To just assume most women are lazy is just condescending and judgmental in my opinion.

I agree with Mery, it's one thing to campaign for what you think is a good choice, but to say to make something law which means an agency to regulate it and fine or jail people who don't follow the law is just stupid.

i think it depends on the mom's body. I have friends who did lose weight BF and other friends who did not. I also know more girls that lost weight quickly and did not BF.

I dont care either way, i just think its fukking ridiculous when someone announces what they believe millions of women (they have never met) should do with their bodies. And yeah, what about the ones who cant do it????

Well, we'll make sure to have Brie set aside one of those cookies she's baking just for you.

The government shouldn't make it a law that a woman has to use her body in a certain way.

Well I guess that just goes to show that every woman is different.  Her nurse and doctor specifically told her that she wouldn't be able to because of what the surgery did to her glands.  So just because you could do it or just because your sister could doesn't mean that every woman can or should.

I do agree that every woman should at least try.  So I'm not arguing that.  I'm just saying, it's not cool to make gross generalizations and then judge others because  of you're misguided generalizations.

  • Well, I agree that, obviously, fewer women breastfeed today than they did 100+ years ago. Because today they have more choices. But today there are also a lot more factors that make it hard to breastfeed, like certain surgery or medication. On the other hand, people DID hae to hire wet nurses back in the day, too, so it's not as though EVERYONE was able to magically breastfeed before the advent of formula.

I certainly think it's for the best and that everyone should try it and not give up easily, but I'm not everyone.

then I guarantee you that she'd agree that finding time/places to breastfeed in public, finding places/time to pump at work, staying awake with your baby as opposed to having hubby help (like w/ formula) making sure you produce enough milk etc etc mean breastfeeding is much more labor intensive that formula.
