I've been thinking about this all day, and I've never seen this as a particularly left-wing board. Last fall when the election was going on, there were spirited debates with plenty of people on both sides of the issues, and it seems like most of the time when political discussions come up here there are people advocating a whole range of opinions.As a gun-friendly libertarian socialist, I've found plenty to agree with and plenty to disagree with around here.

I majored in poli sci so I feel like it's my job to listen to all sides -- I really agreed with something Brie said yesterday or this morning I think? about listening to anybody who can explain themselves, or something like that, though she said it much more eloquently. I will hear and discuss any side of an issue as long as the opinion holder can tell me WHY they feel that way. So even though her version was coming from another viewpoint, I felt like it is the same way that I feel. CN: Brie is smart

kate, I totally agree with you (and Brie, then). I really like having mature discussions about differing views. I'm afraid I know too many blind Obama-followers who have no clue what they heck they're talking about and just want to argue, and yes, it has clouded my perception of the entire party. But then I come here and see these intelligent, funny women who believe different than I do but can still be mature about it, and I think my perception gets cleared up again.

Conservatives take a little longer to come out of the woodwork because sometimes there is such a kneejerk negative reaction to the idea of conservatives. Like without even listening to specific viewpoints or reasoning, when you say you're a conservative or Republican, you often just get an overarching "how COULD you!" type reaction.
