It's Friday!

Re: It's Friday!

  • Got a date tonight with my FI for some laser tag and gocarting. Should be fun. Tomorrow is a bridal shower and then paintball I swear, I don't know where this whole social life came from. Before I got engaged, I just sat home all weekend wishing I had stuff to do. Now, I wish sometimes that I could just sit home all weekend.

FI does the same thing, especially because I'm one of those super-annoying car singers who sings even if I don't know all the words. It drives him insane.

  • Morning ladies... I fell asleep at 3 and was up at 7:30 and I already have two crying babies on my hands... it's going to be a looooooong day.

One of the things I'm dreading about moving into an apartment with FI is not having our own washer and dryer. Maybe we'll be able to find a place that comes with it, but I doubt it and we definitely won't have the budget to buy them ourselves. I'm hoping we're close enough to my parent's house that I can go home and do laundry because I feel weird about public washer and dryers... in college, people always took your wet shiit out of the washer and put it on top and then things got stolen, etc.

  • Good morning!

We've always had a W/D in our apartments -- even in Chicago where it was nearly unheard of except for in high-end condo-quality apartments, but we don't have hook ups at our place now. We started doing drop-off at our laundromat down the street -- it's $1.05 a pound and the woman does an amazing job. There's something rather decadent about getting all your clothes back either hung or folded perfectly. And we did the math and because we'd have to pay to use their machines anyway it's really only a difference of $20 a month or so. Super worth it to me. I do run a load of my underwear every couple of weeks because I think giving her my dirty unmentionables is kind of gross.

This weekend will be busy, but I'm looking forward to it. FI's birthday is Sunday and we have brunch with his parents that day so he and I are going out for a nice dinner tonight at a place near us whose chef is a James Beard Best Chef Midwest nominee several years in a row.

  • If you guys like that Gotye song, you should listen to their album. It's awesome. There's a really beautiful song on there called Bronte. If you like upbeat, then "I Feel Better" will get you tapping.  I pretty much love the whole thing.

And hey! Happy Friday! HAPPY 4 DAY WEEKEND FOR MEEEEEEEEE!!! Woot!  I think I've convinced H to go to Göteborg for the weekend which should be fun. We haven't been up there yet. Looking forward to it.

We had coin-ops in our last apartment, and no one ever stole or touched our stuff, but every once in a while there would be strangers' laundry in our stuff. Once there was a pair of lacy undies that were definitely NOT mine, and I (jokingly) gave FI a hard time about it. Of course, a month or so later, there were foreign boxers in the laundry, so that backfired big time.

I had heard of it before when we lived in Chicago but honestly thought it was something only the super rich could afford. It's significantly less expensive than I thought it would be. I would just call around to a few laundromats in your area -- there's several near me that do it, so I think it's fairly common -- particularly in more urban areas I think.

We picked our apartment because of the size and the location but it's definitely not updated or very well taken care of (and our landlord is a ridiculous alcoholic), but the best part of the apartment is that it's really cheap. This is one of those little splurges we give ourselves because we are living so far under budget for housing.

Hey everyone, well this day is already starting off rough, my sister confirmed she isn't only not coming to the bachelorette party tonight but she's not coming to the my shower tomorrow either. I'm kinda bummed but it is what it is.

And my dress still isn't fixed...now it's too tight in the hips and butt :(

Bay we had one of those Washer/Dryer units in FI's house when he bought it and we found out that a lot of times when one section breaks they are both broken. It could've just been his but just wanted to let you know.

  • Morning!

At my last apartment there were hookups but I had a friend who let me bring my laundry over once in a while, so I did that for pretty much the first year I was there.  During the second year I ended up at the laundromat because I didn't really see my friend all that often so I didn't want her to think I was abusing our friendship by just going over to do laundry.  My apartment did have hookups and eventually offered to put a W/D in, but it was an extra $70/month which was a LOT more than I spent at the laundromat.  If I hadn't been unemployed at the time I would've highly considered having them installed.
  • Oh, and I hope all of our Columbus Knotties are okay. I just found out that our systems were down this morning due to a wreck there.
  • Morning everyone! Today is a crazy busy day- my officemate's last day is today, which is so sad, and I have to scramble to complete about a million different things to make sure everything runs smoothly while I am away next week.  I'm still a bit irritated with the last-minute-ness of this trip, but I finally got a flight (after hours of back and forth with my supervisors to approve it).

I want to go out for dinner tonight to use a giftcard, but we have leftovers that need to be eaten.  :(

AHA! Is is sad that I only know this song from American Idol when Phillip and Elise did it as a duet? Yes, I know it is.

I think I have a new favorite artist.

It's really fine as long as you're careful and open the door slowly -- the front loaders have so very little water in them that there's not really enough to go running all over the floor.

  • Sorry I freaked out last night dudes. I mostly do ok, and then once every few months I end up in this really bad headspace, like that.

I do this all the time with our front loader, you just have to be careful. The way they're designed, the water can't usually come pouring out when you open the door.
