Yeah I'm kinda glad that earthquakes don't happen here. The worst we get are tornadoes or floods and I can deal with that.
Yeah, it was hilarious, people made SUCH a big deal out of it...They were making FB groups like, "I survived the earthquake of 2011" or some crap. It was silly. And I got a bunch of texts asking if I was okay. I guess since we rarely get any kind of horrible weather or disasters up here, besides blizzards, (knock on wood) people were excited.
Posted by angelstar975
Ha, me too. I was like, Umm, I'm not even out there.  It was dramatic.

But the idea of the ground moving is scary.  I don't know what you're talking about MuSu, but tornadoes scare the shiitt out of me, too.
• Oh, yeah, blizzards too. But we're pretty used to those. Driving around in a 4 wheel drive vehicle in a blizzard can almost be fun, in a "this is still dangerous but wheeeee!" kind of way.

• J was fine at the campsite, i guess they didn't get really anything but rain over there, so thats good.

Nates I don't like tornadoes either but I've gotten so used to them that I feel more prepared, I guess?

• Tornados would scare the crap out of me... pretty much anything that can destroy my house in 2 seconds flat is pretty terrifying.

• Morning, Ladies!

Earthquakes freak me the eff out. I kind of used to like them as a little kid. The last one I remember was a couple years ago and I was at work. I think I was calling H before the shaking even stopped. We're out of earthquake territory but now I work in a high rise which I've never done.  The shaking there and especially in the parking garage still startles me sometimes; I've been conditioned to automatically think "EARTHQUAKE!"

Angel, cute sig pic! Is that at FI's graduation?

<div>That's how I feel. I would probably pee myself if I was outside and actually saw a funnel cloud forming. </div>
• Well, at least with tornadoes you can kind of get a feeling of when they are coming-- you have the bad weather, the warnings that something might happen, etc. Earthquakes, there's really nothing at all the WHAM. Feels like a car ran into your building. It's strange.

Tornadoes do freak out Europeans though. Probably in the way that earthquakes freak out people who don't live in Cali. :)  There was a tornado about a month ago in France, a really small one, and people were in shock. They are incredibly rare.
• You know what's scary? When lightning strikes your house. Mainly because its so goddamn LOUD. I have never heard something louder than that in my entire life. It made both J and I shoot up out of our chairs and for some reason, Tory stayed completely asleep and dead to the world. I still think thats hilarious.

• Tracy, yes it was... that's his diploma in his hand :)

• Musu - I've never had that happen. That would really freak me out.
• edited May 2012
It was pretty freaky. And annoying because it killed almost all of our outlets and electronics.
image
• Snippy, that does sound frightening. I've never experienced an earthquake, and I'm glad.

Also, MuSu, maybe I'm just afraid of everything, but tornadoes scare the ever-living shiiit out of me too. FI's family is in MS and we've been there while there have been tornado warnings, and even though they're prepared it's still scary.
• This is completely off topic but do any of yall have any idea where I could find a nautical themed baseball hat for a newborn boy? I've found about a bazillion sun hats for girls but literally zilch for a newborn boy.
• edited May 2012
Aryn, could you try Zazzle or something and just get a small baseball hat?

Edit: how freaking cute is this? Not quite nautical exactly, but marine and so cute!

Is it weird that while I hate earthquakes, I do like this aspect in a way? I'm dreading hurricane season and we had a huge thunderstorm and flash flooding the other week where I was crying on the drive home from work. I guess I'm a worrier and warnings just give me more time to freak out. Haha.  Earthquakes are definitely just like WHAM.

Unfortunately, no... but this does remind me that I have like $15 of store credit to babys r us... I should get something for the new baby I nanny for. She's already 7 weeks old so I'm kind of late, but oh well.

<div>Kinda, but more preppy. Although that was a great find! I've been looking through etsy for an hour and that's the closest I've seen to what I'm picturing. It's for the family I babysit for. I'd really love to get the new baby something with his name on it but they haven't named him yet and he should be born in less than 2 weeks. </div>
• Tracy, I can kind of understand that. It would be easier not to worry about it beforehand... although, if that worry can lead to preparedness and make me less likely to get injured, I'd probably want to know, even if it will give me anxiety for the days leading up to it.

Aryn, here's another one, but it's kinda walking-billboardy (in that it has a big logo) (clicky!).
• That does make sense, MuSu.  Natural disasters scare the crap out of me.

Alright, we finally decided what we should do with ourselves today, so I'll catch you guys later. Have a great one!
• ::wave hello::

Is it weird I don't get freak-out over natural events?    I like tracking weather, but it's more about being prepared.   I'm the one who has the umbrella in her bag when no else does.   Thunder, lightning, etc. do not bother me.

I've even been on the boat when it was struck by lightning.  Boy was that loud.  All the women were screaming.  I was like "well this sucks", then I went into damage control mode.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
Kmm, I love that idea. I am sore today--we went to a huge festival concert yesterday on the boardwalk/beach and we walked all over the place. Still, we got to see Foo Fighters again and it was an amazing show, so it was totally worth it.  <strong>The last song of the night was our wedding song, and we just danced on the beach, with like 50,000 other people and Dave Grohl. </strong>Now, it's back to real life and cleaning. Blegh. It's too nice out for real responsibility.

• Speaking of baby stuff, I still haven't received a TY from the girl I sent a shower gift to. She either a.) didn't get the gift, b.) sent the TY and it got lost in the mail (just like my invitation to said shower), or C.) didn't send one. How long should I wait before contacting her to make sure she got it? Or should I not do that?

• Poke, I would definitely follow up... maybe wait a month? You definitely want to make sure she received the gift.

I don't think I ever got a TY note from my friend's baby's baptism.. and that annoys me because I accidentally gave her much more money than I meant to, haha. I had a brain fart and I wrote the check for $100 more than I had intended. I know she received it though, since I brought it to the baptism and she cashed the check. Oh well, what can ya do.
