[QUOTE]I judge the random acquaintance I ran into the other day that asked me if I was okay with "marrying a Mexican?" UMMM.  Asshole. 1. he is Puerto Rican and Antiguan. 2. Nice way to lump several different nationalities together based on the color of their skin and 3. What kind of dumbass asks a person that? I think I stared at her with my mouth open for way longer than necessary, and them I spouted of that he was Puerto Rican and of course I was okay with marrying him. It still infuriates me almost a week later. Oh, and I would also like to add that I hate people that say the word "skreet" (street).

H's mom asked if I and my family was okay with me marrying an Asian.  ..... Um.  Well, I figured out a loooong time ago that he was Asian so I don't think I would have said yes if I weren't.  Why would MIL ask me this?  I have no idea, but it still boggles me today.

I agree with TJ.  People don't have to identify themselves, or qualify their nationality if they don't want to, and shouldn't be held accountable for it.  H looks Asian, but the man has no Asian culture in him whatsoever.  Ask him what he is, and he says American.

We have a friend who is Turkish, but became a US citizen 20 years ago.  He thinks it's weird how obsessed with labels Americans are.  We have to look at everyone and apply a label to them- Female, male, ethnicity, rich/poor, republican or democrat.  They're always the first things we signify.  He said that in conversations, people would ask him where he's from, he'd say, "Michigan" and they'd say, "No, where are you really from?" he'd say, "Well, I was born in Turkey, but I have lived in the US for 25 years now." "Oh, so you're not American then."
  • On a related note, I judge the people who like to give their ethnicity breakdown like, "Well, I'm one quarter Scottish and one eighth Martian and oh, of course, one-sixteenth Cherokee..."

If you're talking in any fraction smaller than halves, you're being ridiculous. You're American. Get over it. It's not such a terrible fate.

and a black guy raised his hand and said "I'm not."

  • Oh - speaking racial stuff.  When we were in Florida we were at this little bar.  We were talking with this one guy, he was super nice and we were buying each other rounds back and forth.  Some guy yelled from across the bar something about the confederate.  Well we ignored it.

Later on this other guy goes up to Mr Stack and is just kind of shooting the sh*t with him, being nice.  This other guy walks up to the guy talking to Mr Stack and says, "you're f*cking up man, do you not have any love for the confederate?".  Then he pulled the guy away from talking to Mr Stack.

    Haha!

TJ, I've had people ask me what my family history is, and when I tell them I have no idea, they are shocked.  My family's been in the US since the fricking Mayflower.  I'm about as American as you can get without putting a feather in my hair. Course, one of my ancestors married a native Hawaiian princess waaaaaaaaay back in the day, so does that give me 1/18 Hawaiian blood?

oh, the tea party is just insane. INSANE.
  • I judge the people in my life who condescend my excitement over getting married just because they got married too young and aren't happy now in their own relationships.
I'm not young and naive like they were. I have a college degree, a decent career, and am now ready to take the next step in adulthood. I've sowed my wild oats.

I also judge my stomach for being hungry after only eating a few hours ago. Stupid weight watchers.

I judge my SIL.  She likes the tea party and Sarah Palin.

I judge myself for liking the Bill O'Reilly interview with Sarah Palin.  I usually can't stand either of them.

  • I never say "African-American" or "Canadian-American" because quite frankly, I think it's stupid and it makes me roll my eyes. If you're from Africa, or your parents are, by all means, have at it, however this isn't actually the case most of the time.

I know that's harsh and probably rude, but god -  if I had a loonie for every time someone's told me I am not, in fact, African (despite my accent, family and birth certificate), because I'm white. Where you are from has zero to do with your racial colour. *stabby*

  • I'm 26, will be almost 28 when we get married. These people are in their late 30's and got married very young, right out of high school.

I can't help it that they don't like the choices they made. I really don't talk about my relationship around them that much. Only when we're grabbing a drink after work and trying to make conversation.  After the first few remarks and "looks" I got, I decided it wasn't something I wanted to delve into with them anymore.

  • I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I don't care where people are from.  I also don't really giveashit how they identify themselves.  If it's important to them, then let them identify themselves as a 1/5 of freakin' whiskey.

    I  judge people for caring.

"You can take your etiquette and shove it!" ~misscarolb
  • I don't care how people identify themselves either. I was just wondering if Whoopi would have been so blase about it had the comment been about black people.

On a totally unrelated note, I judge pageant parents. You know, the ones that put tons and tons of makeup on their three year old and parade them around on stage? Think "Toddlers and Tiaras" on TLC. And the moms stand there and say the kids like it. BS. I don't think a toddler knows any better.

  • I judge anyone and everyone who lumps Tea Party activists as racist.  Really?  Is everyone a racist?  Do you define every group of people by their craziest member?

I challenge anyone who says those things to call me a racist to my face.  I have yet to meet someone who has the balls to say it.

It obviously really annoys me when people rip on the Tea Party movement based on what they watched on MSNBC.  MSNBC and FOX are equally ridiculous news stations.  Labeling someone as a racist/bigot is extremely hurtful and tarnishes their name and that movement.

Am I saying that every Tea Party activist is a rocket scientist?  No.  But you sound just as stupid as the people with racist signs when you throw generic labels on people/things that you know nothing about just because it's "cool" to diss them.

I judge the extremely large, unattractive mothers that do this to their daughters. It makes me think they're trying to make up for something lacking in their own self-esteem.

I judge the people in my office who give me a request 5 minutes before the end of the day and have tomorrow as the due date. They say "oh I gave you a day to do it." No, you gave me less than a day. 4:55pm should not count as today.

EDIT: Just wanted to clarify that I'm not judging said mothers on their looks. I'm judging them on their actions and their looks just happen to be a factor in my hypothesis.

This.  ESPECIALLY when you are walking the opposite way and they see you coming.  You KNOW I can't fit on the sidewalk and yet you refuse to bunch together?  Am I not good enough for this sidewalk?

On the cyclist note, I judge when there are specific bike lanes/paths and they still don't use it.
