I agree with TJ. People don't have to identify themselves, or qualify their nationality if they don't want to, and shouldn't be held accountable for it. H looks Asian, but the man has no Asian culture in him whatsoever. Ask him what he is, and he says American.
We have a friend who is Turkish, but became a US citizen 20 years ago. He thinks it's weird how obsessed with labels Americans are. We have to look at everyone and apply a label to them- Female, male, ethnicity, rich/poor, republican or democrat. They're always the first things we signify. He said that in conversations, people would ask him where he's from, he'd say, "Michigan" and they'd say, "No, where are you really from?" he'd say, "Well, I was born in Turkey, but I have lived in the US for 25 years now." "Oh, so you're not American then."
On a related note, I judge the people who like to give their ethnicity breakdown like, "Well, I'm one quarter Scottish and one eighth Martian and oh, of course, one-sixteenth Cherokee..."
If you're talking in any fraction smaller than halves, you're being ridiculous. You're American. Get over it. It's not such a terrible fate.

I went to a Quentin Tarrantino film festival thingie in Austin once, and he goes "All black men say they're part Cherokee." and a black guy raised his hand and said "I'm not." and Quentin goes "Well, then, you're not cool."
Oh - speaking racial stuff. When we were in Florida we were at this little bar. We were talking with this one guy, he was super nice and we were buying each other rounds back and forth. Some guy yelled from across the bar something about the confederate. Well we ignored it.
Later on this other guy goes up to Mr Stack and is just kind of shooting the sh*t with him, being nice. This other guy walks up to the guy talking to Mr Stack and says, "you're f*cking up man, do you not have any love for the confederate?". Then he pulled the guy away from talking to Mr Stack.

I know that's harsh and probably rude, but god - if I had a loonie for every time someone's told me I am not, in fact, African (despite my accent, family and birth certificate), because I'm white. Where you are from has zero to do with your racial colour. *stabby*

I can't help it that they don't like the choices they made. I really don't talk about my relationship around them that much. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I don't care where people are from. I also don't really giveashit how they identify themselves. If it's important to them, then let them identify themselves as a 1/5 of freakin' whiskey.
I judge people for caring.

I don't care how people identify themselves either. I was just wondering if Whoopi would have been so blase about it had the comment been about black people.
On a totally unrelated note, I judge pageant parents. You know, the ones that put tons and tons of makeup on their three year old and parade them around on stage? Think "Toddlers and Tiaras" on TLC. And the moms stand there and say the kids like it. BS. I don't think a toddler knows any better.

I challenge anyone who says those things to call me a racist to my face. I have yet to meet someone who has the balls to say it.
It obviously really annoys me when people rip on the Tea Party movement based on what they watched on MSNBC. MSNBC and FOX are equally ridiculous news stations. Labeling someone as a racist/bigot is extremely hurtful and tarnishes their name and that movement.
