Good Evening

Re: Good Evening

  • I am through the first three pages of FFF.  I feel like I have been gone forever instead of a couple days.  So ready to get my butt home.

J&K, how is box kitty doing with the meds?  Sorry if you have been asked this a billion times.
Good evening everyone! H is gone for the weekend at a bachelor party and im home with the animals, drinking wine and hanging out.  It`s great.

I just remembered we have wine that we got in Feb, gotta get myself a glass!

  • Ski, thanks for asking.  She's doing pretty well.  Medicating her is still a biiitch, but we're working it out.  She's only twitched once (that we've seen) since Monday, and the one time she did twitch it wasn't nearly as bad and it didn't seem to bother her nearly as much.  The vets loved her too, even though she wouldn't stop hissing at them the whole time.

  • OK, I tried to read the thread but failed. I just read this page.

Anyway, grocery shopping is one of my favorite things. Especially since I can now go to Publix, where shopping is a pleasure.

  • Glad to hear that J&K, glad box kitty has a good vet.  Scary when you don't know how to help them.  Giving meds to animals can be the pits.

I am anxious to get home and see Helmut.  He looks at me so forlorn when I go out the door with my suitcase.
In Response to Re: Good Evening : Awe, poor Minka. What sort of meds does box kitty need?
    Posted by mrs.jesse
Gabapentin.  Apparently it tastes like death, from the fit she throws about it.  Liver flavored death.  But it makes her less twitchy, so I'm good.

I saw you wrote something the other day and I was intrigued. So far day 1 has been great. Do you make any other products? ETA: spelling
  • How long has she been on them? If there's already an improvement and she hasn't been taking them long then I bet the twitch will go away completely for the most part.
  • Rubert want to do my grocery shopping for me?  You would probably love shopping at Wegmans.  By the way, how is your new town, your new place, and all of that?  I am sitting at Reagan airport right now waiting to go home.  Boy is there some excellent restaraunts in the National Harbor/Alexandria (Old Town) area.
  • I think my thing is that I never feel bad feel bad spending money on food so the grocery store is where I really feel free. I mostly buy whatever I want, because I've got to eat you know?

  • Since Monday, Aryn.  The major twitchies had died down mostly since then anyway (she usually twitches on and off majorly for a couple days, then only has minor twitches daily for a week or two, rinse, repeat, so we'll see what happens there in a couple weeks.  Even if it just makes it less frequent or less severe, that will be fine with me.  I don't want to have her on anything anymore crazy (other options are phenobarb and anxiolytics, and they're both pretty sedating and majorly personality changing) if we can avoid it.  The neuro also suggested seeing a behaviorist for her anxiety, which we might do in the future as well.

Oh my god, our cat is like a person.

  • Hi All!  I'm not going to try to catch up.

    Publix is the shiznit.

H and I went out to dinner at one of my favorite restaurants.  My belly is full of pork belly and risotto...and domaine de canton.  yum.

I've never been to Wegmans, but I've heard good things. The new place is great. I've only been here a week but I am enjoying it so far.

There are a ton of awesome restaurants in Alexandria. Where did you go?
In Response to Re: Good Evening : Straight gabapentin (like in granule form) smells like death, so I imagine it does taste like death. I guess as long as it works, it's all good :) When I worked in the pharmacy, we made a lot of gabapentin ointment to p it in kitty's ears, which also didn't sound like much fun.
    Posted by mrs.jesse
Yeah, K says that it's pretty vile.  He's going to experiment with it when we need a refill (his pharmacy compounds pet meds all the time) and try to make it the least disgusting as possible.
Wegman's is a wonderland.  Gabapentin is a nervous system drug, isn't it?  I feel like that was floated as an option to me by my pain management doctor years ago.
    Posted by EaglesBride2012
Yup, originally used as an anti-seizure med, more commonly used for nerve pain and migraines now.    Occasionally for anxiety as well.

Box kitty's issues are caused (in a nutshell) by hyperactive and hypersensitive nerves in her back, hips, and paws, so the gaba basically calms  her poor little stressed out nerves.

  • Haha J, that's how I feel about Sash too. The vet recommended a behaviorist for her as well. Hopefully Box Kitty feels better soon on these meds and won't need the more extreme ones.
  • Charter House and and Irish Pub (Pat Troys?).  We also enjoyed a bagpipe band on the square.  In the National Harbor area we ate at McCormick and Schmidt, Rosas Mexicana, and the Gaylord.

I am stuffed to the max.  So much seafood for one girl.
  • Rosa Mexicano is delicious. That is where we all went for the huge DC GTG last fall. We went to the one in Chinatown though.

  • Time to board the plane.  Have a great evening ladies.
  • Yup, Neurontin is gabapentin.  Lots of people do pretty well with it.

I feel bad, because I'm secretly a little happy that the meds sedate her a little, because it's made her more cuddly.  Bad pet parent.

Ok, that's enough about my cat.  You guys are probably so sick of hearing about her.

let's talk about.....I don't know.  Something else?  Haha.

  • Wegman's rules so hard.

Hey dudes, just got in. We went out to see a Grateful Dead cover band and then had dinner at a place near there that we've been meaning to try.

I'd like to raise a glass to Ashburn VA's finest for letting me off with a verbal warning. Thank you, kind sir.

OH my yes, we had apps there the first day and went back again tonight for dinner before we left.  Sooooo good!  The pomegranate marguaita was delish.
  • This is a pretty worn out topic as well but my FI is being a dickwad. I let him use my car and I paid for the gas for him to go see his nephew graduate 5th grade today. Didn't get a thank you but NBD. When I picked up dinner I noticed my tank was on E again and he said he'd be getting gas before work so I put $15 in and when I got home told him. He said he was only planning on putting in $10 and got all huffy puffy about paying me back. Really dude? I cannot wait to leave in a couple weeks.

We could talk about my cats. I love being a stay at home cat mom. And there is a stray cat in our neighborhood I want to adopt. Well I think she is a stray anyway. I love her though, she is so sweet. H named her Megan.

<div>Ugh.  I can't wait until you leave either.  You need to drop him like a bad habit. I don't usually tell people to break up with their SO's but I don't think he'll ever shape up unless he gets that level of wakeup call.</div>
Haha, Daff, what'd you do? J, <strong>I haven't taken anything for my back/leg pain for about a year and a half</strong>.  That shiiiit is a slippery slope.  Plus I'd rather reserve meds for when I'm older and all that arthritis kicks in.  :)
    Posted by EaglesBride2012
<div>Do you have a high pain tolerance? I agree that can be a slippery slope. I wouldn't say my old roomie was addicted but she had to take pain meds for her knee so often that even the strongest ones her doc would prescribe her won't work that well. She made the conscious decision not to up her dosage but she was in a lot of pain relatively often. </div>
  • Ugh, Aryn, that is irksome.  I'm sorry, dear.

Eags, do I know why you have back/leg pain?
