  • Yeah, call me selfish, but if my H turned out to be a serial killer, I'm totes getting a divorce.

  • Ciara, it's an old thread that was in the newsletter, so it just.won't.die.

I mean, if somebody wants to be alone and unhappy for the rest of their lives after their husband leaves them b/c they think God wants that, ok, go for it.  But don't stay married to a crazy dude in the eyes of the US government to boot.  That's just dumb.

  • Most people don't go into their marriage expecting a divorce, but things happen.  I like to think that H and I will never get divorced, but there are just way too many unpredictable things that could happen.

  • Oh my god. I'm not even going to attempt to read the whole thing.

I went into my marriage fully expecting a divorce.  <div>No, I'm kidding.  But for real... I'm pretty sure the wife of BTK didn't see that one coming.  </div><div>But if people chose to do that, I don't care.  Go ahead and be miserable for the rest of your life, won't affect me in the least.</div><div>ETA:  You get one, short lifetime.  Why waste it in misery?</div>

  • Haha you would KJB.

Exactly, there are things that can't be predicted.  There was "The Bike Path Rapist" in the Buffalo area that raped and killed women on this same bike path for over a 20 year stretch.  There had been about 10 years maybe between his last attack and the one before it.  They finally caught him (they had the wrong man in jail for years for it) and it turns out he was this great family and community man living a completely normal life.  Can people honestly say they wouldn't divorce their husband if they found out that was him?

  • I would love to follow up with so many people in that thread in 20 years.
    Photobucket
  • Haha exactly.  Or even 5 years.  Especially the brides who are only 21 and 22.  I thought I was with my future husband when i was 21, and then couldn't stand him a year later because I had changed.  So you can be damn sure if I had married him I would be divorced by now.

  • isn't that scary to think?  ha.

  • My HS BF ended up marrying a girl named Kelly.  So he never got over me.  Poor girl, I'm sure she's always being compared to me :P

  • Yeah it's really scary.  That's why it drives me nuts when girls say "even though I'm only 19 I know I'll be with my FI forever and ever and ever."  I was 21, and graduating college, and not immature for my age by any means, and I still was wrong in thinking I would marry him.  But you know, clearly we have skewed thinking if we think about divorce anyways.

  • well, my excuse is I forgot to invite God and Jesus to my wedding.  I don't know what your excuse is.

  • My parents were somewhat forced into a marriage. Both sets of their parents convinced them it was a good idea since I was already on the way. My grandma had a friend whos grandchild was born with major health issues and they didn't have insurance. My father was a marine and if they were married I would be fully covered by his insurance. They were married at 18 (dad) and 20 (mom) and were divorced soon after my sister was concieved in 1987. Dad was abusive and used me as a punching bag a couple times and mom left. They then reconciled just long enough to concieve my sister and it was over.

Had they stayed married who knows what would have happened.

I really want to see their opinion on if they should have stayed together.

  • Yeah it's ridiculous.  I hate the stupid newsletter that brings out the brand new newbs who are all sorts of crazy.  And that those threads just never seem to die after that.
    imageBabyFruit Ticker
  • Of course they shouldn't.  But, people are going to say they should have.  I really don't understand.  I don't know why I try and understand that kind of blind faith.

Well we're not helping matters by responding to them :)  It just boggles my mind though that people can actually think that way.

  • Haha good point.  Yeah I don't get that thinking either.  I was married in a Catholic church and made my vows to God as well as H, but I'm 100% positive that God would not want me to stay in a marriage where I was physically or emotionally abused.

  • Oh my god, it was SO FUN, but the little brother got a leeeeetle bit hammered and there was some debauchery that ensued. But fun!  We missed bar bingo, but we totally made it for the cha cha slide. It's kind of a horse a piece.

  • hey ladies!

I'm totally off the diet wagon and just popped open a bottle of homemade wine. I think i'll try to get back on the wagon after New Years. :-/
  • I also, according to my great-aunt, didn't have god at my wedding because it was outside. I just take anything she says with a grain of salt.

    Hey fische!

  • Birdie I am disgusted by how fat I am right now.  But I'm not even attempting to diet until after I come back from going home for Christmas.  I know I will do nothing but eat and drink the whole time I'm there, so my diet will be starting when I get back.
