Ok, now that I've met you I get mispronouncing Anna, but misspelling it?? Really?

I want a good Irish name for a boy. I am not fond of Patrick, which is the first thing everyone thinks of. Not a fan of Brendan, either. Mr P suggested Douglas (which is more Scottish anyway) but our last name starts with G and is only one syllable.  Then of course if you say it first and last sounds like one word.

Let me just say people get creative. I had the same English teacher for all three years of middle school and she always spelled it "Ana." I have also gotten "Onna" and "Uhnna" and all kinds of crazy stuff. And I have had people INSIST that I am either spelling or pronouncing my name wrong. And that is just my first name, not even my crazy last or middle names. I can't wait to be married and have a normal WASPy last name.

Also, FI is a Jr. so we will probably have the third. But since FI doens't go by his first name I think our kid will.

Veg and Stacks - thank GOD FIL stopped the horrible name tradition in H's family. H would have been Ronald Richard R***** III. That just wasn't gonna work.

And people kill me Anna. I used to get the "are you sure...?" about my maiden name, too. Am I sure I know how to spell my own last name? Am I sure there's no "t" in it? Why yes, yes I am sure.

When it comes to boy names, H won't bend.  He wants Jack.  Not John, not Jonathan.  Jack.  I've tried changing his mind, but he won't budge.  But I got to pick Katherine (or Katheryn) for a girls' name, so I guess that's fair.  We're doing Irish middle names since we're both Irish -- Jack Eamon for a boy and Katherine (Katheryn) Saoirse for a girl.

H is named after his two grandfathers, but we won't be continuing that tradition.  Neither of us is too fond of the name Douglas (his father's name) as a first name and I'm not naming my kid Michael (my dad's name) Douglas.

Lol.  FI always knows how to annoy me with the names.  He wants a Frederick (family name), a Broderick (cause it sounds cool by itself and with Frederick), and a Pandora (since women are the root of all evil).  I'm cool with keeping the family name.  But Broderick and Pandora are a big fat no, especially Pandora.

My H's friend just had a baby and they sent a text announcing the birth with her name: Isla. I think it's beautiful name, but how do you pronounce it? Iz-la? Eye-la? And to add to the confusion the did the middle name Elisabeth, yes with an s. Poor child's last name is some confusing crap, too. I feel bad for her.

Docta-I would also do everything in my power to stop Pandora. One of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills has a daughter named Pandora and I think it is sooo weird.

TR-My mom is named after both of her grandmothers and hates it. She has gone by a nickname her whole life and dropped her middle name (Edith, I don't blame her) when she got married. I'm glad she dropped the tradition otherwise my name would be Zenovia Gunnhilder.

Anna I feel your pain.  My name is Stacye.  I know it's spelled a little quirky but people would actually question me (and still do).  Are you sure that's spelled right?  Ummm, no, I'm lying to you just so you spell it wrong? 

I've worked at my job for 6 years now and people still spell it wrong here.

DH had to call a customer yesterday from his office to ask them a question and the woman's name was Potty. He really didn't want to say it in case he was wrong so he asked for Dotty. But no, it was Potty.

Which of course made me think of "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" and the witch named Latrine.

My grandmother's parents must have been on something. They had Reba, Marnelle, Coke, Red, J.W. (yes, that was his name, on his birth certificate...*sigh*). All of their middle names were awkward too - I think Coke's middle name was like "Fennil" or something.

I love baby names!  Isla is pronounced eye-la usually.  Actually, my best friend in middle school was named Ila...

Our boy name is Owen John and our girl name is Ruby somethin'.
