G'mornin' People!

Re: G'mornin' People!

  • H's brother is named Aron, even though that is exactly how their parents spelled it bc they didn't get the whole double "a" thing. All throughout school the teachers would call him A Ron like it was two seperate names or whatever.
  • Ana is the Spanish way to spell it which is why I think a lot of people got confused in Florida since there is such a high Hispanic population. But I am 0% Hispanic and I just spell it and pronounce it the European way instead of the Anglo way.

Two Carrie/Kerry's must get super confusing!
  • Sawyer is my best friend's dog's name. He's a really cute dog though.

  • Yeah, my first name gets butchered all.the.time. I'm used to it by now. People feel bad, but I've heard everything under the sun. Martha, Martini, Margarita, Mary, The bread (Merita is a bread company in SC and my name is spelled Maurita, they sound the same though).

I was however the only one in my graduating class with my name, and have only ever encountered it with family members. I know there are others out there with it, it's just not common.

My last name gets spelled wrong even though it's phonetic. I'm just used to having to spell both first and last names for every person that asks.

    I feel your pain Anna.

  • Haha salt, yeah I just keep thinking that's more of a dog name than a person name. I'm hoping H comes up with another favorite before we start having children.

Usually when people ask how to spell my name I hand the my id or something else with my name on it. When I pick up things that are stored in alpha order like a perscription at the pharmacy or when I try to close my tab at a bar I usually have to write my name down for people. Even after I say my last name, say "it starts with B J" and then follow up with "really, BJ, I am not kidding, I am sure it is the only thing filed under BJ" and then they still try to give me Johnson or Petersons perscriptions.

Oh lord. I could see where that would get complicated.

ETA: Our original last name was Kubichka from slovakia, but got changed/shortened when my great grandmother emmigrated. I can only imagine if they hadn't changed it I'd probably be having to do the same thing as you.

[QUOTE]Birdie--people really butcher your last name soo much? I mean, it is not a strange name. It figures quite prominently in the Bible so I would think people would have heard of it before. I think it is a good first name for a boy.

Yeah it's crazy the different ways they try to spell it. And even when I try to spell each letter, their hands take over and start writing out different letters than they're hearing. There's also the rare form of it having an "s" on the end, but everyone seems to think this is more common and they try to make my plural. :)

I've started doing this too. It's just easier that way. :)
