My mother says the same thing to me. But she also thinks you have to have EVEN numbers of kids so they can play in pairs. You can't have 3, only 2 or 4. WTF.

My parents told us we should have two kids so they could divide eventual healthcare responsibilities when we get old (being half-serious). However, my H and I will also have to take care of my dependent sister and his dependent brother if anything went down with our respective sets of parents, so really we consider siblings more of a burden than a help. 

We'll probably have two (who ever really knows), but not to take care of us when we're old and decrepit.

I've only been to Sequoia once, and it was in December to see the "national Christmas tree." They do a wreath laying ceremony. We drove up there in a bus with chains on the tires - we were at about 7,000 feet of elevation.

That's a sequoia behind me. They're kind of surreal because you can't actually see the whole tree at once. You just keep looking up and up. It's like something from Lord of the Rings.

So anyway, it's a cool place to go. But it's sort of in the middle of nowhere. An hour south of Fresno and an hour and a half north of Bakersfield, and neither are all that awesome. Unless you need to stop and find a Denny's or something. But if you have the time and are into that kind of thing, do it. If you're visiting several of the US national parks you can get a parks pass. It's good for a year and it costs $80 I think. We get one every year. It pays for itself in about 3 park trips. Southern and Central California have about 4 National Parks (Sequoia/Kings Canyon, Channel Islands, Joshua Tree and Death Valley).

Mery - I agree on the drowning thing, it was too much after a while.  I really got into the rest of it though. 

My H is an only child and very much suffers from OCS (only child syndrome) BUT I blame that on his parents for a lot of different reasons.  It doesn't mean every only child would be as difficult as he can be.

Oh, and the only time I think about having 2 is when I'm at a restaurant.  Because it seems like if you ask for a table for 3, they seat you at a 2 person table and stick a chair on the side way too often.  I WANT A 4 PERSON TABLE!

Brie, the only thing I don't get about your thing with the Blind Side being offensive is that, well, it was  true story.  So how can it be offensive?  I mean, it happened.  Disclaimer: I didn't read the link you posted about it.  I'm just guessing it goes along with the part of the movie where the parents get accused of just doing it to get him to play for their alma mater.

I've never been to Sacramento, but I am going to Napa on my honeymoon, which is kinda close (like 45 minutes). That will be about a 7 hour drive.

There's lots of fun stuff in California, but it's such a huge state that everything is far apart.
