Good Evening!

How was your day?

Mine was good and found out what grade I will be teaching next year. I still might look for a job closer to home.

Re: Good Evening!

  • Hello!

My day was okay.  The quietest day by far that I'm going to get this week.  Plus I found out that H's cousin's baby was born today -- Matthew John, 7 lbs!

Right now H is at EMT class, and I just put a loaf of banana bread in the oven.

  • Hi!  I'm never here for the evening thread, but I'm procrastinating writing my papers, so here I am!

My day was blah.  Not much good, but not much bad.

  • Hey guys. I started a birthday cake for FI this morning and didn't get around to making the icing so I'm going to do that in a minute when I stop looking for bakers/caterers. I realized we can up our cake budget so I'm looking for all new bakers.
  • Congrats and  yummy banana bread!
  • Hi, ladies!

My day was really up and down.  FI and I found out that we're not getting the condo we put an offer on (another buyer came in last minute and out-bid us).  So that's disappointing.

BUT my advisor is letting me go ahead and schedule my dissertation defense for June!  So in two months, I will officially be done with grad school!
  • My day was fantastic!  Research Papers are all graded, and it's the last 6 weeks of school!

  • Mmm.  Banana bread.  I was planning on making chocolate chip banana muffins later tonight.

The day was okay.  We finally decided on our honeymoon this morning, so I booked it.  Now, FI is sick and whiny, but he won't go to bed.
  • Long.  DH is doing a seder dinner and I'm thinking of opening up some wine.

Still no word on the job hunt.

So while I wait I have started to purge the condo and have spent hours looking online for housing.  It sucks because from what I can tell if we sell the condo (which I'm leaning towards) it might be months before we get a bite.

We do not have enough of a DP to buy without selling the condo.  So that means we will have to rent the condo until it sells.     Not sure I want to be a landlord so far away, but we might not have much of a choice.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • specialk: where's the honeymoon?

We might defend pretty close to each other.  Trying to align the schedules of 4 faculty members is like herding cats, but I'm aiming for June 20 right now.  I can go earlier than that if necessary (it'll just be an extra challenge to get it all done), but not much later due to travel schedules.  I'll be really happy to have the date officially on everyone's calendar.

Special K -- where are you going?
ETA: Posted too late!  Congrats!  Sounds like a good time.

Lynda, have the wine.  Sounds like you could use it.  Purging sucks, but at least you'll feel good about it when you're done.  And you'll be much more organized for a move.

I know, right?  I am more stressed out about scheduling the defense than finishing my dissertation.  If I can't go at the end of June, it'll get postponed until August because of one of my committee members.  And since I have a job waiting for me....  well, that would suck.

  • Ha.  Taco Hell.  Sounds about right.  You crave it until you eat it...and then you wonder why the hell you ever wanted it in the first place.

That would suck.  Luckily, my advisor is bought into the idea that its a bad idea for me to defend in August, since that's when my wedding is.  His daughter is also getting married this summer, so he's actually kind of adorable about asking me how wedding stuff is going.

Ha!  When FI's cousin got married, FI waited until after his defense to RSVP, because he wantedd to RSVP with the "Dr." title.
