I'm curious...

Re: I'm curious...

  • I don't care for wristlets but I am a loyal coach purse carrier.  I have had my black purse replaced 3 times in my life when it got damaged.  Not many other companies will do that.  I just sent the purse in and they sent me back a new one.  Sure, I paid $100 for the first purse but it really does last a lifetime.

But whatever, I'm just an old lady who doesn't like fro-yo.

  • I think wristlets and coach are equally fugly. But, if your BMs are into it, go for it.

  • Don't flame me for this Coach lovers but to me Coach is the middle class "haute couture". It just to me isn't real high-end fashion. If you want to go designer, go all the way. Coach just seems like a brand for wannabes trying hard to show off.
  • I bought them for my girls, but they go out a lot and have use for them.  Most of them also really like Coach. I also got the slightly bigger ones that can hold a cell phone, cards/cash and makeup.  It still fits around your wrist, but I think it's more functional.

I also bought mine at the coach outlet.  I wouldn't have wanted to spend $100 on a wristlet.

The fact that people actually take the time to mentally rank brand names as "good enough" or "for wannabes" is more laughable to me than anything else.

  • You buy coach because you are buying the name just like you buy any other designer label. I just think it's a waste to buy a label that is so pedestrian. I haven't done label purses since I was 18 because if you can't afford a birken or chloe why bother?

Or? OR? You buy Coach because:

    1. You like the style
    2. You are comforable spending that amount on a purse and think more is silly
    3. You don't give a crap about petty woman who judge brand names
    4. You're not in high school, thus above ranking people by their possessions
    5. You're a mature adult, thus don't attach value to items based on their brand name

  • eh... I might use it for going out to bars or something, so I don't have to bring a big purse. but other than that, nah.

  • You don't buy Coach if you don't care about brand names. Half of the line consists of showing off the brand (having C's all over the purse or those hideous plaques). There is no reason to buy coach unless you think you are impressing someone and the only person you are impressing are people who really don't know fashion.

You don't need to buy coach, there are many other great brands out there that have a similar price point or less that don't feel the need to flash what brand they are all over their product. That's the kind of purses I buy. If I were to buy a label, I'd at least buy one that conveys power and high fashion. Coach is a waste.

    Hate Coach.

    Hate wristlets of any brand.

And I actually HAVE a Coach wristlet that was given to me as a gift.  Not a BM gift, just a gift.  It's sitting in a drawer somewhere, has been for many years.

I don't know, Coach has given me really nice-wearing products and great customer service. I'm sure Hermes has great customer service, too. But I'll never find out, because i'd rather buy a car with that kind of money. Everyone has different priorities I guess! <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-undecided.gif" border="0" alt="Undecided" title="Undecided" />

But you totally nailed me. I routinely walk up to people with birkins and say, "Wow! You have a birkin! I have a coach bag! It's like we're the same person. I'm so glad you totally GET fashion!"

  • I don't have a Kelly or Birkin either- trust me. I can never see spending that much on a bag. I just think if you were a person who liked labels, why waste 200 on a label that doesn't have any credence in the fashion world. Buy a Kenneth Cole instead.

Next time I am a bridesmaid I hope that the bride gives me a wristlet made of baby seal fur and unicorn tears. You don't get much more haute couture than that.

You have a point. When I see something I like, that I can afford, I DO usually call up the Fashion World and ask about the credence.

  • I have owned one Coach bag in my life, it was a line that came out a few years ago.  The whole reason I bought it was for the colors (I forget the name of it but it had bright colored stripes on a bright white background) and was very summery.  There were no huge Coach logos on it...in a few places you could barely make out the word "Coach" in pale blue script, but you'd really have to look.  I bought it because I liked it, not because it was Coach.

I don't see the point in buying things for the brand.  If I like it, I'll buy it...but I'm not gonna buy something just because it's got a logo.  I liked my Coach bag, but I got a $25 no-name bag from an Indian store with my birthday money two years ago, and I definitely use it a lot more often than the Coach bag, because it's just easier to carry (shoulder strap, as opposed to just hand straps like the Coach bag).

Now MM has really hurt my feelings!

My sister told me that she gave me a really nice DESIGNER bag for Christmas last year.

It was a Coach wallet and she got it at the outlet.  (she forgot to take the tag off)
  • I used to use wristlets during my clubbing days.  Now, they are not so useful to me.  I guess it depends on how much you anticipate your BMs needed them.

As for Coach products, I've never been a fan of them. I find most coach bags blah.
  • I really, really dislike logo, Coach and wristlets.  So a logo Coach wristlet would be regifted immediately.

I do have a love for high end handbags but I prefer the kind that are not blatant, such as Chloe, Balenciaga and YSL.

The store I am at now is the #1 location for handbags for the designer I work for, and I have to admit that the customers that come in with the Coach logo are usually the most picky about what they like, in a very unoriginal way.  They never like anything unique.  I always show them our best selling bag and if they buy, that is the one they will pick.  It is $1550 and looks similar to tons of lower priced bags out there.  I don't get it.

    BabyFruit Ticker
  • Oh, and I forgot to mention that I just got a Coach logo makeup bag as a BM gift last week, and the second I saw it I felt guilty.  I see her all the time and feel like I have to carry it for a while now.  At least it is inside my purse.

I just hope I don't casually make fun of Coach logo one night in front of her.  I would feel terrible.  She actually carries a Coach bag that I think is very pretty, but it is all leather and does not say Coach anywhere obvious on it.  I do think they make quality leather products.  But I just can never like any of the logo.
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • I have a few Coach bags, because they are good quality (for what I'm willing to spend) and they have a lifetime guarantee.  None of them have logo prints or are noticeably 'Coach', they're pretty classic leather bags. Sure I guess they look like cheaper bags but they're lasting forever, so it's worth it to me.

I own a Coach wristlet that was given to me by FI a year and a half or so ago. I love it, honestly. Not because it's Coach though. It's the only wristlet I own, and it's perfect for going to the movies, going out with friends, date nights, quick trips to the grocery store or the mall, etc. I just grab my debit card/cash, cell phone, and some lip gloss and throw it in with my keys. Perfect for when you don't feel like carrying around everylittlething you normally do.

ETA: However, I wouldn't give them as a BM gift unless I knew for sure she would actually like it or use it frequently. But that goes for any gift. I personally like wristlets, but a friend of mine would be horrified if she received one.
