Male annoyances

Re: Male annoyances

• Our kitchen rule is who ever cooks doesn't have to clean. But I usually clean as I go because our kitchen has only about 2 feet of usable counter space. So I'll use a bowl for one thing, clean it, use it again for another, etc. So H has barely anything to clean. But when he cooks, he uses three bowls for every one I use and doesn't clean as he goes.

He'll also leave empty cans and bottles on the counter instead of putting them in the recycling.

With most things I try to clean as I go because I hate cleaning. But in other areas, I am the one that makes clutter. I'll clear off a table in the living room only to fill up my craft room table with the same stuff. Drives H crazy, so I guess we're even. :)

I'm this way with the way he puts away dishes. I don't say anything because hell, I don't want to put them away myself. But I'm thinking, "why are you putting that there? When have we EVER put that there? Why is the glass upside down? Why is the fork backwards?" Yes, I'm a total nag in my head.

TK won't let me quote but yes, this too. FI is great about dealing with the dishes after I cook most nights, but the boy can't load a dishwasher to save his life. And he can't remember where anything goes. Mind you, our kitchen is probably smaller than most people's closets. There isn't that much stuff to remember.
In Response to Re: Male annoyances : I feel that way too. I've actually tried to imitate a trumpet a couple times when I realized that I was essentially talking to a brick wall. H doesn't notice enough to recognize that I stopped gabbing and started saying "Woh wah woah wah wah."
Posted by mica178
Usually Charlie does notice when I start to say weird stuff, so I'll give him that. Usually I'll say something like, ".... and then I think I'll run out in the street wearing nothing but my underpants on my head." And then he pays attention. I've also tried to get him to agree to let me keep a goat in the bathtub on many occasions when I thought he wasn't paying attention, but that hasn't worked yet.

H doesn't do the dishes. He won't even load them into the dishwasher. Or even just rinse them when he leaves them in the sink. Oh, and dirty laundry is left anywhere but the hamper. And don't get me started with the wet towels. Those are left on the bed or draped over my laptop, or anywhere but the rack.

I married a 37 year old who seems to be treating our home like an 18 year old just starting college. He's excited about not having to do chores and being able to leave the place a constant disaster zone.

It's a good think I love him so much. On paper he looks like a disaster.
In Response to Re: Male annoyances : Personally, I don't like them because they make me groggy no matter how long I sleep, so for me they're just not a good option. In general - and I realize this is insane because why do I care how someone else sleeps - I just feel like grown adults should be able to make it through an entire day without sleeping. Obviously there are special circumstances, but I feel like frequent napping is either laziness or a lack of being able to properly put yourself to bed for a decent amount of sleep.
Posted by emilyinchile
I agree with this totally. They make me groggy. I have to take out my contacts. It's too much work. There's 23532523 other things I could be doing during that time which are actually productive. I fuucking hate naps!
okay, what is a soda stream?
Posted by Habs2Hart
It's basically a CO2 canister that you use to carbonate water. They also sell different flavored syrups like cola, lemon-lime, orange, ginger ale, etc. http://www.sodastreamusa.com/ Love mine, but they don't refill themselves.
• Omg Mery yes, the contacts. Except that my contact solution is the kind that fizzes due to a chemical reaction (the little bubbles clean the lenses extra well), so I have to leave my contacts in their case for at least 6 hours so the reaction can finish unless I want to put straight hydrogen peroxide in my eye. So I just leave my contacts in, and then my eyes and head hurt, and it's all just horrible. Naps are so awful.

Ohhhhh wet towels. His towels never make it back into the bathroom, and often end up on upholstered things, which then get wet and it drives me nuts. And then he'll come out of the shower and realize he has no towels and stand there and whimper until I find him one.

Seriously, he's a puppy, in a lot of ways.

• Oh! My FI is also super-annoyed at the Playstation network.

Me? I've been kind of relieved its down. He claims Playstation (specifically Call of Duty) helps him relax, but when he's yelling/cursing and the screen, it doesn't seem that relaxing to me.
• Em- I used to use that stuff but even if I let it sit for 8 hours it still burned my eyes. It's weird to me that for years, like 8 years probably, I NEVER took out my contacts. I wore daily ones, but I would just always sleep in them, and only take them out if I got something on it, or when they needed to be changed. I had no problems with them at all. A few years ago I forced myself into getting into the habit of taking them out every night again, and now if I even sleep for like half an hour they are killing me, I can't see, and I instantly need to take them out.

• Ditto Emily on the yelling at COD. I've been to yell back "it's just a game!" The yelling, cursing, and calling everyone on his team morons and idiots just grates.

Right now my issue is that H is slacking on his household duties. We both work, though I work a good 10-15 hours more than him each week. I come home, make dinner, do the dishes, do laundry, and generally clean things up. He comes home and does nothing. It takes 3 days for him to unload the dishwasher. I've been asking since Monday for him to sweep the dog hair up and it hasn't happened yet. he was off yesterday; want to know what he did? Mowed the lawn. Yup, from the time I left the house at 7:30 am until I got home at 5, and then while I was out from 7-9, he did exactly one household chore. He didn't do anymore after I got home at 9, either.

That and his disgustingly dirty feet with the crazy long toenails and the man is lucky I'm still letting him sleep in my bed.
• Docta and Sarab, I have a great love for soda and H and I have been eyeing this for a while. But, I am pretty picky about the way my diet soda tastes... do you guys like how the diet tastes? Is it comparable to any brand? Diet coke? Pepsi? Shasta? I am so interested. :)
• Man anna is too quick for me :) We need our diet coke.
• I think it would be hilarious if all our FI/Hs played COD together.

I mean, maybe they do and we just don't know it.
• I already have dry eyes, so if I leave my contacts in while I sleep, it makes me pretty miserable and I have to put my glasses on when I wake up anyway. I used to put my contacts in before I got in the shower because I'm really blind, but then I'd rub the water out of my eyes and that would dry them out too. I promise my optometrist I'm getting better! Wink I'm SUPPOSED to take them out when I get home from work, really, but I normally wait until they start to bother me and/or when I get home from being out of the house - like if we go out to dinner or out with friends. I only wear my glasses when I'm reading in bed, before I go to sleep, really.

Yes! OMG, this! My husband is the 2nd worst person I've ever seen load a dishwasher. The worst is is his stepmom, so I know where he gets it. It doesn't help matters that he has someone else cleaning up behind him in the kitchen at work. And why he cannot figure out where things go is beyond me. He's lived in this house for over 3 years (only about 6 months less than I have), he jolly well should remember where theshit goes.

(And pretend I quoted Anna too)

It's......... okay. You can definitely tell it's not Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi. There are things you can do to tweak the taste (add more or less syrup or carbonation), but I'm still struggling with the fact that the taste is a little off. Not bad, just...... erm..... generic I guess. The Sprite mix is pretty good, though. I'd say that one is the most spot on I've tasted yet. The cream soda is disgusting. They also have Diet Dr. Pete (Diet Dr. Pepper) that tastes okay.... again, slightly off.

• I used to wear contacts a lot, with no problems. Took them out at night, but that was it.

Somehow (doctor said over-wearing + eye infection), my left eye became contact-lens intolerant. I hated having to wear glasses all the time, so I got LASIK about 3 months later. Best money I ever spent. Seriously.

And I love naps. And not dealing with contacts does make naps soooo much better.

They sell a diet cola syrup, but I haven't tried it. The cola doesn't taste like Coke, so I think it's a pretty safe bet that the Diet Coke isn't a match either.
