Boo J I'm sorry to hear that. I was reading the unpop ops but it made me stabby.
    Posted by Megbo2012
Unpop Ops ALWAYS make me stabby.  Either because (1) people don't actually have unpop ops, and they say shiiit like "I hate Lady Gaga, hehehehehe!"  or (2) people have really fuckking shiiitty unpop ops, and they're super ignorant about them, and I judge them.  And I end up judging people I like.  And it changes my opinion of them.  And that sucks.

I rarely go into unpop op threads. They usually just make mad. I don't really care to share too many of my own unpop ops either because I'm a wuss and I don't want to get in an argument with anyone, haha.

I'm pretty easygoing but do enjoy a good debate. I don't think I'd be a good attorney if I didn't have it in me to debate.

    Musu, that's quite true.

FI always says I'd do really well in law school because he said I have the "mind" for it and I already think the way other people need to learn how to think. I always tell him that that's all well and good, but it would be pretty useless for me since I would be a terrible lawyer. I don't like to debate unless I feel extremely strongly about something, in which case I get too emotional about it to be objective.

well law school kinda shows you that even if you don't agree with something, you have to be able to find an argument for it. There is never a black and white answer. And if there is, you feel like you've hit the jackpot because that never freakin' happens.

I think it was a fairly balanced debate as far as more than just one person on one side though. KWIM? Its not like abortion threads which often turn into one person vs a lot, haha.

I can't participate in abortion threads. That's a prime example of an issue I feel too strongly about to debate properly. I'd be all like, "No, fuuuuuck you, you're wrong. End of story."

I think that the U/O threads get deterred to one topic over another because it's usually something that people are more passionate about.

But I was impressed that today's thread was exceptional---it was calm and people seemed to actually listen, which I always appreciate.

Leisel, I tend to play devil's advocate IRL with my friends, even if I get their point of view on a situation.

Feeling too strongly about issues doesn't stop me!

I can usually see both sides though (even though I usually think the other side is wrong).  For one of my college classes, our prof had us pick an issue and a side to present a position paper on.  When we met with him to tell him our topic and side, he told us we had to write on the OTHER side.  I did surprisingly well, and enjoyed the assignment.

I must have checked out of the thread by then. I don't have enough of an opinion on gun control to really contribute with anything meaningful, and my nephew wanted to play a board game. I'm going to back and read it.
