Re: Confessions or UnPop Ops or something?

  • To all of the ladies from Arkansas...FI and I took a motorcycle trip up to Mt. Nebo a couple of years ago...We fell in love with the area, so beautiful. We will be riding to Hot Springs next summer for a convention (Blue Knights International) and can't wait.
I confess I joined Weight Watchers, and the only people that know IRL are my sister and H. (Well BIL probably knows too, being married to my sister and all). I don't know why I haven't told people. Maybe because I did the whole wellness thing all of last year, then slipped up and gained 25 lbs. I've lost 10 in three weeks, so I'm definitely getting back on track. I just hate my life when I have to obsess about everything I'm putting in my mouth.

    Congrats!

I also  never tell people about things like that.  It embarasses me to admit to trying, i guess?
In Response to Re: Confessions or UnPop Ops or something? : That reminded me of another reason I feel shlumpy - my H is like a fashion plate.  I mean, not really, but he pretty much only buys clothes at Brooks Brothers, won't wear a polo-type shirt out of the house because Oh!  The Horror!  It's too casual!  Won't wear shorts in public unless it's like 100 degrees and we're doing something uber casual, Ferragamo shoes, the whole deal.   So there's me with my Old Navy "wardrobe" - ha!  He is sweet though - he's always trying to take me shopping.  I finally let him and now I do have a few snazzy outfits.
    Posted by amyb140
amy - you hit the Jackpot!  Your H wants to take you clothes shopping!

Seriously, that is sweet.  I used to work in retail women's clothing, and I got jealous of the women whose men would go shopping for them or with them.  They have no clue how good they have it.

  • MK - I love WW!  I did it back in college to lose 25lbs, and have done it off and on since then.  Whenever I start to gain weight back, I get back on it.  Speaking of which, I need to start again.  This extra 10 lbs ain't gonna lose itself!

P.S.  HAPPY WEDDING, MIDGIE!!  You are going to have so much fun!
  • Well thanks ladies, you guys are awesome!!!! Ok so here is a real confession. I am currently FATTER than I have ever been (even when I delivered both my baby girls) and I was all super watching what I ate and lost 3 lbs in 2 weeks, then I quit for 1 week and gained 4 back!!!! I am ready to go to one of the quack diet "doctors" and get the diet pills or something (joking, Im a mom wont do that) but I am so irritated it is almost laughable.

  • Rach I'm sad we never had a g2g when I lived 2 hours closer to Arkansas.

  • Congrats MK! I agree, sometimes I don't share stuff like that either so I don't have to tell anyone if it failed. But it sounds like you're making great progress!

I think I'm more ashamed at regaining weight than doing the program. I hate admitting I failed at something and I feel like I let others down when I do so well for so long, then slide backwards. KWIM. Like when I was hot with the weightloss thing people always talked about being inspired by me. But now I feel kind of like a fake because I couldn't maintain it.

<div>Good for you!  I'm trying to get back in to WW because it's worked really well for me in the past, but for the life of my I can't get motivated to obsess about my eating.  I'm training for a triathlon in August and working out like crazy and makes me not want to then diet like crazy too.  Seems unfair to have to do both!  I can't manage to get all motivated by needing to start wedding dress shopping in a few months.  WTF is wrong with me, eh?</div><div>
</div><div>Congrats of those loses, that must feel great!</div>
  • My FI has horrible fashion sense. And no nice clothes since he's basically been broke for 3 years. For his birthday this year, all he's getting is clothes, which I've been stocking up on since April with sales, etc. I may have to give him something early so he has something decent to wear for our engagement pictures next week. He thought he was supposed to wear a suit.

He looks awesome and I appreciate that he cares about how he looks.  It just makes me feel like I can't keep up. Fun fact:  He got a custom suit made for the wedding - it cost twice what my dress did :)  Of course, it's just a black suit so he'll be able to wear it forever.
    Posted by amyb140
H got a custom suit as well.  It was awesome. His was actually not super expensive though- less than my dress!

Meh, this is really not that hard with the online tracker. They have thousands of food items in their database. I do like the new points system. And LOVE that fruits and veggies are 0 points. I pig out on them all day.
BB&B is fun, but I used to HATE it when I lived in Fayetteville. The bikers were EVERYWHERE and so loud, especially when I lived near/on campus. And working the bar shift at Hoots during that weekend? Miserable. But just going downtown and people watching? Super fun.
    Posted by rachers1017
That was the day we had our original wedding date for.  Everyone we called laughed at us and then someone finally told us.  Apparently it takes over the whole town.  I looked into it and it looks really interesting. I'd like to go for the weekend and bar crawl on Dickson.

That day, he wanted to wear black sweat pants with that shirt. It was like 85 degrees and though we were going to a casual get together, it wasn't quite THAT casual. I had him wear khaki shorts instead, so he looked okay. Everytime he wears that shirt, I feel like he looks like a coach, because it's from his college.

  • MK, having a bit of a set back doesn't take back everything you accomplished.  Even though you gained some weight, you're still healthier and in better shape than when you started, right?  AND you're nearly back to where you were!  You're still super-mega-awesome.

My FI is the same way, he has dirty jeans and faded polo shirts that he always pairs with an old pair of running shoes ...or he has a suit. nothing in between. Once we're done paying for wedding stuff we're taking a trip to go shopping since there are no good stores near us.

It's the same thing, different system. I don't really like counting calories either. But they have some formula that takes Fat grams, carbs, fiber, and protein for each food item and it assigns a point value. You've given X  amount of points a day, based on your current weight, age, height, etc. Then given weekly points for extra things, treats, snacks, etc. You can earn activity points to be used towards food by working out and moving more. The program is designed for you to eat ALL of your daily points, ALL of your weekly points, and ALL of your activity points, and STILL lose weight each week. Which is true.

  • my beau hates clothes. His closet is entirely tshirts with one dry fit polo and a suit. If he had his choice, he would be a nudist.

I hear you on the weight loss thing. I'm heavier than I've every been and it might not be really noticeable to anyone who just met me or even knows me casually, i'm CRAZY aware of it. Your clothes don't fit right, you just don't feel good. I've been trying to make eating right a habit because that's the only way to keep it off but when I fall off the healthy wagon, I fall hard. Plus, my soccer team didn't get together again and I just started a second job in addition to my full time one leaving me no time or will to exercise. Not that I have the will power to do it anyway.
