My grandmother gave me Felicity and then gave me Samantha when my parents got divorced so I could have one at each house (because that was totally a salve to my "my dad stupped his secretary and is now marrying her" wound)

But mostly, I just loved the books. I had a lot of them, but would check all the others out of the library as well.

  • I wasn't really a doll person, but I was so jealous of all my friends with American Girl dolls.  I wanted Samantha soooo bad.

  • Oh, yeah, Natrasha, you reminded me.  I had Samantha's nightgown, too.  Didn't it come with knickers as well?
  • My grandparents gave me an American Girls doll when I was younger and it looked a lot like me. I never played with it because it freaked me out.
  • Hi KCS!  I have a group of very enthusiastic, fresh MS3s in my clinic, and last week I had interns on their second day of residency in clinic (they are doing their continuity clinic with me).  I think about you and your upcoming journey all the time, and I am so excited for you!

  • Whenever I go outside with wet hair, I think of Molly getting sick after going to bed with wet hair to make curls every night.  And then she had to miss her recital!  Life lesson right there!

  • Did anyone else have the AG books that let you write your own story? I think it came with the dolls that you personalized to look like you.
  • I had a Cabbage Patch Kid the first Christmas they came out.  Her name was Margaret.

She's still going at it in the morning thread on SB too.  I had no idea someone could be that condesending for that long a period.  I think it's some sort of record.

Oh! I think so! That was my sister's.
I also had Felicity's red cape. It was gorgeous. I think my mom used it last year for a little red riding hood costume. A lot of the clothing was really good quality. I remember it being super expensive, but nowadays it would probably cost the same and be that cheap costume-y polyester.

Did anyone have the giant background books? Not sure what they're called but they were big huge books with pictures of like, Samantha's house, or the snow covered woods with Kirsten's house.

Samantha definitely had some of the prettiest accessories.
  • I was never big on dolls.  I loved the shiiit out of my little ponies, and then I got to play with real ponies.  I got sad the other day because I realized the pony I used to lease probably isn't around anymore.  I'm scared to go by the barn he lived at and find out for sure.  I'd rather just pretend that he'll live forever.

  • I bet that cape was gorgeous!

I'm too old to have been around for the "make your own" American Girl doll, I think.  But I did have a Cabbage Patch doll.  Her name was Dorothy (like from the Wizard of Oz).

I don't even remember my dolls' name; I'm pretty sure I lost it's birth certificate as soon as I got it.  I fear for my future children.

You really are the best.  And I am so thankful for everything you helped me with during the application process.  Talking to you before my interview really helped calm my nerves.  You're the best internet friend and mentor.  And I'll probably bug you with more stuff in the future because I really don't know what I am getting myself into.  All I know is I've never wanted anything more than I wanted to be a doctor and I am so psyched that it's actually happening.

[QUOTE]I think my Felicity doll is in a box somewhere. I saved all my toys. I'll be pissed if I don't have someone to give them to someday.

May as well send them to me.  I have ootdauhter's room still kept with her dolls , books and swimming trophies.  What's a few more?
  • I am always happy to help, Kcs.  Keep me in your loop so I can make your next however many years of school and training as painless as possible.  :)

  • I have a friend with a cat named Chairman Meow. His second cat is named Kitten Jong-il.

    Yay for theme names.
  • I'm definitely doing something flamable right now:

I'm watching old seasons of The Real World on Hulu, and I'm watching the DC season.

I keep rolling my eyes so hard at how dumb one of the housemates is acting, but I can't seem to turn it off. I'm having more fun making fun of it than anything else.

Excuse me, Doctor and Future Doctor. Do you know of any band aids that irritate sensitive skin? I started with the Nexcare waterproof ones, but that was a painful and itchy disaster. I tried regular band aids, and now I'm stuck with gauze and paper tape. Edit: I'm looking for ones that DON'T irritate sensitive skin.
  • I'm very sad I missed the American Girl discussion. I have Addy (Giving her to J as soon as I find it and make it somewhere to send it to Stacks!), Felicity and Molly. Molly was my favorite. By far.

I'm going to go shower now before my husband comes home and realizes I still stink.
  • Did anyone have Magic Attic Club dolls? I had Keisha and Megan. They were a similar idea, short stories written about the girls but set in modern day. There was a trunk in an attic (I can't remember if it was a neighbor or someone's grandmother or something) and when the girls put on an outfit they went on an adventure that pertained to that outfit. It was hard to find different ones for them though because they had plastic bodies instead of cloth so the AG doll clothes wouldn't fit. I still have mine, I was going to give them to my daughter but I might give one to my future niece (So excited!!)

  • Curad has sensitive skin bandages.

But I like the paper tape with gauze method too, since I think most adhesives used for bandages are mildly irritating to the skin.
  • The animal shelter called and said that I can pick up the kittens on Wednesday.  That's later than I wanted, but I'll take it.  :)
  • I'm not much help special. For my personal use I like Curious George bandaids but I don't have sensitive skin and when I drew blood at the hospital we basically only used gauze and paper tape.
    image
  • I will try the Curad ones. Is there anything I can do to make them less irritating?
