POLL: What did you call your in-laws when you were engaged?

I call them by their first names.  FI does the same with my parents.  I can't imagine calling someone else mom and dad.  I already have my own!

I don't really call him anything. Usually just "Dan's father" if I'm talking about him to someone else. My mom calls my dad's mother "Gram," so maybe once we have kids I'll actually address him as something, like Grandpa or whatever :P

lol.. i really do like this thread. i'm also relieved to see that a lot of ppl don't really call them anything! hahahah. for a brief period i called his mom by her first name, cuz i know she prefered it like that. but jokingly he started calling my mom, "mom". so did the same. i'm not sure if she likes it, or whatever. but she signs her cards "mom ___ (her name). ***she did specifically tell me NOT to call her grandma (shes a grandma) she said a past gf did it and she only did it once if you get my drift. LOL so beware of that. i guess when all fails.. just ask what they prefer.

both DH & i grew up calling adults "mr & mrs" there are no first names.  now that we are married we can call our moms "mom" but we both tend to not use names right now bc its just weird.

Brad- Maybe you are right. Maybe it is an "emotional thing." I guess I could try to come up with a 100 reasons, when at the end of the day, I just feel super weird calling his parents mom and dad. I just don't want to.
