[QUOTE]Let's chat. I don't think most murderers can be rehabilitated.  And I'd rather see them rot in jail then put to death.  If we choose to kill someone, how are we any better than the murderer?  I think having to live with their actions and thoughts every day is a worse punishment than the release of death.  Their cells should be wallpapered with pictures of their victims. Your turn.

Yah, I'm on the opposite side of this fence. I don't like paying for someone to have housing, clean clothes, food, medical etc.  Many people who confess to murder are not in the same mind set as "normal" people, living with their actions will not be a punishment. Confessions and/or dna proof are good enough for me for a quick walk outside and a couple of bullets.

I love pitbulls.  I would never say that my dog would never hurt anyone, because really, it's an animal how do I know what he's thinking.  But I do believe it's in the raising.  Most of them are misguided and it makes me sad.  How can you resist this face?

Thats what I thought you meant, I was just checking.  Some people say murderers to encompass anyone who's ever killed someone, regardless of how.

It's cheaper to keep someone in prison for life than to kill them.

As far as the language thing- people who speak English are actually the biggest A-holes about language when I've visited other countries.  We generally expect everyone to speak English.  I have seen people all over the world walk up to cashiers, waiters, whatever, and start speaking English.  And the thing is...  a lot of people in Europe DO speak English.  Americans are the ones who don't think they need to know any other languages.

I'm really glad that Chileans haven't been that horrible to my friends and me when we came here with our less-than-perfect-but-trying-to-learn Spanish. How the hell do you expect people to learn English when the best way of learning a language, and you refuse to immerse them?

That's not how the system works though. With the way our appeals process works, executing someone is actually more expensive to taxpayers than keeping them imprisoned for life, in many, if not most, cases.

I feel this way about pedophiles and rapists. And even on the off-chance that they could be fully rehabilitated and never did it again after being released, I still don't want them walking around a free man/woman. It sickens me that people who do such crimes are released and we are expected to be okay with that because "they served their time."

However, I will admit that my opinion is completely biased due to personal experiences and I think of this issue that way, personally, rather than looking at actual statistics of rehabilitation.

I generally tip 20% because a)  I've been there and b) it's easier to figure out math-wise.  I may round down if the person wasn't particularly pleasant, but not if the service was slow because I know the kitchen can often be at fault for that and I don't want to punish the waiter.

I don't know when it became the norm, but it was the norm 5 years ago when I was waiting tables. I feel like if a server does his very best to be accomodating, doesn't let me know how much he hates his job, and generally has a good attitude, I can forgive a lot. Waiting tables isn't easy, and I don't know what the minimum wage laws are for servers in every other state, but in LA, they get paid $2.13/hr. So yeah, they're relying on that tip money and I tip 20% unless something is seriously amiss.
