Dealbreakers

Ok. Go to it.

For me, I am gonna go ahead and say that I couldn't marry someone who was significantly larger than me. Yep. I'm vain.

Re: Dealbreakers

  • MuSu kind of stole mine. I wouldn't date someone who is not in shape.

I wouldn't date someone who would consider wearing a camo vest to a formal occasion.

I wouldn't date someone who was in the military or considering it.
  • Dealbreakers for me:

    -poor hygeine.
-doesn't take good care of themselves and their health.
    -doesn't enjoy travel
-isn't open minded towards new foods, cultures, experiences
  • Ok I'm gonna question people too, hah. Megbo would you not do the military thing because you don't wanna deal with the distance thing or because of feelings about the military itself? I'm wondering because I feel the same way, but more because I would not be able to handle the long times apart.

  • I wouldn't be with someone who didn't have a college degree.  I've done it before and it just doesn't work for me.

Or someone who can't spell and use proper grammar, or that types in text speak.

  • I couldn't be with someone who didn't care for their health and well being.  Or hygiene.  I am vain too.  I couldn't be with someone who was significantly larger than me either.

I couldn't be with a lazy or unmotivated person.

I couldn't be with someone who wasn't social.

    I wouldn't date a cop

I wouldn't date someone significantly less educated than me

I wouldn't date someone who believes in "traditional" gender roles

    I wouldn't date a workaholic
    Lizzie
  • Ditto on the military, Meg.  I couldn't deal with the time/distance apart and the constant worry about their wellbeing.  I'd make myself sick with worry.

  • I wouldn't date someone with a lot of tattoos

I wouldn't date someone who doesn't want children

I wouldn't date someone who doesn't have a degree or can't hold an intelligent conversation

I wouldn't date someone with poor hygeine

  • oooh, proper grammar.  I mean, every now and again is one thing. Or a few irritating cultural/regional phrases.  But lacking the ability or desire to speak and write using proper grammar on a regular basis?  no way.

    I wouldn't date someone religious
    or a tea party Republican

I wouldn't date someone who wouldn't travel outside of the US (I mentioned that yesterday when Wrigley said her husband is too terrified to fly)
    Lizzie
  • I wouldn't date someone going into or considering the military either.

I wouldn't date someone who smokes or thinks you have to get drunk to have fun. No problem with drinking but being able to have fun outside of that is important.

This. That would drive me up a gosh darn wall.

  • Drugs/alcohol abuse/smoking are all deal breakers too.  Having some booze here and there, whatever, but when it's a crutch, that's no good.

I also couldn't be with an atheist.

  • I probably couldn't marry or date a socialist or extreme right or left wing person. Even though J is conservative, he isn't a nutjob.

I probably just couldn't deal with someone who was super into politics to a "i need to protest level" anyway.

I couldn't marry someone who I felt could not defend our home.

  • MuSu more for the long distance and the risks. I'm not putting myself or my family through that.

I kind of wouldn't date someone who didn't run too. Non-runners generally don't understand.
  • - I couldn't date/marry an avid hunter.
-I coudln't date/marry someone who doesn't want kids or dogs
-Like Rachers, I could NOT put up with someone who isn't clean, hygiene and household
  • I also couldn't be with someone who swears a lot or yells.

Bad teeth are a definite dealbreaker.

Put me down for cop or smoker/drug user too.

I wouldn't divorce H if he gained weight just like he wouldn't divorce me over it. Sh!t happens sometimes. But we have the same values when it comes to health.

  • I couldn't be with someone who was ultra religious.

I wouldn't marry a smoker, which is part of the reason FI quit before we got engaged.

...maaaaaaaybe if he was really, really, super drunk.  But only because we're already married.
  • Obviously I'm fine with the cop stuff. H isn't a cop, but a correction's officer is so close in type of work... :)
  • I couldn't date someone who was super religious.

Because they always go hand in hand?  I'm interested that so many people say they wouldn't date someone without a degree, especially with how the economy is.  Having a college degree is most certainly not the only way to be successful nowadays.

about an inch and a half?  doesn't bother either of us though.  I was even wearing 6 inch heels the first time he asked me out!
