I don't want to talk about weddings.

Re: I don't want to talk about weddings.

  • The last time I allowed a hairdresser to chop off my hair, I was condemned to six months of using styling gel or headbands every day.  Never again.  It takes me all of 15 seconds to put my hair in a bun or braid, so much easier.
  • I go through phases of not wanting to style my hair, but because it takes so little time I get over it pretty quickly. If I wear it long I'll pull it back in a pony tail every.single.day.  And not do anything with it. I'm forced to make it look good everyday.

  • Mica- that is *hopefully* really good news!

Ha for those who mentioned static-y, unruly hair, check out my current mane:

Yeah, it's a crazy curly mess so sometimes it behaves and sits still in lovely ringlets but more often than not, it's a tangled nest of erratic curly cues and I'm a fan of ponytails. The curls can be really cute when at shoulder length or a little shorter but any shorter than that, chin and above, I look ridiculous. I used to straighten my hair religiously but got tired of that and embraced the natural, wild state of it. If I do short tomorrow or after the wedding, it wouldn't be any shorter than right above the shoulder.
  • You people are crazy. short hair is SO much easier than long hair.
  • I went in for a trim when my hair was past my shoulders and came out not being able to put it in a ponytail at all. I looked so stupid. Worst part is everyone thought I did it on purpose. They were like "Oohh, your hair looks so.....nice." I knew they lied. It took me 2 years to grow it back to where it was before.

My general rule is it has to be long enough to put in a pony.

  • Not mine, anna!  When its long, i don't even have to brush it and it looks fine.  When its short I have to wash it every morning and blow dry it and use product and stuff.  Too much for this lazy girl.
  • I have thick wavy hair that when long looks kind of like Kalpi. I just make the stylist use the texturizing shears to thin it out so it lays better when short. I actually get my hair cut more often because it's gotten thicker, not longer.

  • My hair would be a frizzy/curly mess if I cut it as short as your hair Anna.  Not to mention the funky cowlicks and stuff. If I want easy, I run my hair under the faucet, and put gel in it and let it curl however it likes.

I would have to wash my hair everyday regardless. And I have a ton of hair so it took like two hours to air dry and 30 minutes to blow dry. And then I would just put it up like 10 minutes later because it was in my face. Now I just blow dry for literally 3 minutes.

ETA: And I always had terrible split ends.
  • We are kind of talking about hair.  I don't have time these days to knot during the day, but I miss some of the day shift people.  I need to try to make a point to come around from time to time to say hi.
  • I wear my hair in a ponytail, a lot.  Now that I have a grown-up job, I thought I would stop (to look more professional), but I haven't.
  • I probably wash my hair every other day. My blow dryer and straightener are my friends. No matter how crazy it may look when I wake up I can still manage to make it look presentable if I don't wash it that day. Like tomorrow. That's a no wash day. I'll probably clip back part of it.

  • Anna I would need a xanax or something before I could cut my hair as short as yours.  I love your hair, but I'm terrified to go that short.

  • I have to wash it every day too, but this way I get to shower at night instead, which I LOVE.

I love showering at night.  and hate it in the morning.

Yeah, my ex-bf did almost break up with me because of it. I wish I'd had a Xanax for him.

Haha I thought the same thing. It took too long to blow dry so more often than not it was pulled back and I felt like I was back in HS.

  • User I'm the complete opposite. I sometimes sweat at night so it seems to void the shower I would have taken at night.

Yeah, it was something about me making life altering decisions without consulting him. Whatever. We broke up like 6 weeks later anyway, we were already on the outs.
  • Cutting hair is NOT a life altering decision.
  • Your haircut is a life altering decision?  That is some might powerful hair right there.

Me too MK.  I feel gross if I don't take a shower in the morning.

  • See, i sleep better when I'm CLEAN.  and i'm always cold at night, so i still feel clean in the morning.

and I get to sleep a half an hour later.  win/win.
  • Yeah, this same dude accepted a job in Arkansas without consulting me and threatened to quit and move into his mom's basement if I didn't move there with him. Those might have been some life altering decisions.

So if I was feeling at all nostalgic after reading the "is this normal?" thread I'm over it.
  • And girls who think they "have" to wash their hair every day may be surprised that you don't really "have" to. If it's because it gets oily, it's your hair's natural oils over-compensating for being washed so much. We've had this convo a few times on here and I know Mandy's talked about it. If you get your hair used to being washed every other day or even every third day you might find that it's less oily and healthier.

  • Anna, your ex's comments were so far out of line, I can't even fathom them.  Seriously - your hair - a life altering decision?  WTF.
  • Yeah, I've heard that MK, but I don't know if that would work for me. I think my hair is too short. I think it works better if you have curly and/or colored hair.

I am interested in trying the baking soda thing though, I might do that when I run out of conditioner.

I wash my hair once every other day or so. It gets dry as hay if I wash it every day. Not healthy for my hair anyway.

  • MK, I've tried, but I just can't get past the initial gross feeling.  I'm sure my hair would even out after awhile, but I just can't stand it looking gross.  Maybe when I quit my job and won't be in an office every day I can try it again.
