In Response to Re: I am feeling judgemental : That's a long drive from Florida. Ha. ;-) Wow, I didn't realize there were states that still had no booze sales on Sundays. The laws are also really odd in PA. You can buy hard alchohol and wine from the liquor store but beer is sold from state-controlled beer stores or you can get beer to go from a bar. So odd. I remember shoulder tapping when I was under 21. No way in hell would I buy booze if some kid did that to me.

Hahahahah. I keep forgetting my location has changed. Alas, I still reside in Hoosierland. I wish I were in FL.

In IN, there are no alcohol sales in stores on Sundays, but you can get a beer from a restaurant or bar after noon. Grocery stores/drug stores can sell beer, wine and liquor, but not cold. Only liquor stores can sell beer, wine or liquor cold.

• I hate that alcohol is so readily avaialble here. I raed once that Jax is leading the nation in DUIs (or one of the leading cities). Well maybe if they didn't sell alcohol at every damn gas station and grocery store at any time of the damn night it wouldn't such a problem. Alcohol should only be sold at liquor stores, in my opinion.

I'm judging myself right now for getting excited over something that I know will never happen. It's one of those things that would change my life if it did, but the person who could make it happen has flaked out on me so many times that I'm an idiot for thinking this time it will happen for sure. And yet, every time she gets in touch with me, I get excited again.
No booze on Sundays in MN either. Which is stupid, because WI is like 45 minutes from the majority of MN citizens. We can only buy 3.2 beer from the grocery stores. EVERYTHING else is at liquor stores. in WI? you can buy anything, anywhere. Target even has an aisle of liquor and wine and beer. (along with grocery stores, gas stations, etc.) Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen a liquor store in WI.
Posted by Steph+J
There's one in Rapids: Kelly's liquor. There's one here in Appleton too. But for the most part, I agree. Most people buy it at grocery stores or gas stations.
• Bahaha LDY. Where did you get those pants? At the... toilet... store?
panther
• In MD (or at least in Montgomery County, MD), you can only buy liquor from county-run liquor stores. And you can't get any alcohol at all from grocery stores, Wal-Mart, etc. There are beer/wine stores, and liquor stores. I didn't know this when I first moved there and asked someone who worked at Giant where their alcohol was. He looked at me like I had 3 heads and told me they can't sell it there.
image
• I miss the wine aisle at Publix. Cry

The boundaries around here are insane. You can literally get a margarita on one street and the next street won't even allow you to get beer. It's just stupid.
• We have interesting liquor laws here.

My favorite part: You can't sell alcohol on Sundays BUT bars and restaurants can sell it as "carry out" on Sunday. There are a few liquor stores here that have a two seater "bar" in their store to get around the rule.

You also can't buy beer or wine in the grocery store here. I walked around for ages, totally confused when I first moved up here from Florida. It made no sense to me, we usually got our beer at the case station down there.

Oh, and sorry Blue but I judge anyone who uses the term Obamacare. I know it's common but irritates the crap out of me.

• LDY, I think your pants have a little bit of santorum on them. Right there in back...
• Dude I'd totally buy my beer at a grocery store if you could do that in ND. Fewer stops = more convenient in my eyes. But my liquor store is right next to my grocery store, so, there's that.

Yup. I agree with this. States should be able to make their own decisions. I definitely think its blackmailing.

I disagree. Then you'll just force people to drive further for their booze. Trust me. I've had to be DD on a Sunday afternoon enough to realize that people will just drive to get the booze wherever it is. Even if they've had a beer or two already.

I agree. I agree with the point that those customers gave AATB (even though she couldn't do anything about it). If you are old enough to die for your country, you are old enough to drink a beer.

It's not blackmailing... so much as... I dunno. Tempting?

Wasn't the whole drinking thing related to federally-dispersed highway funds? Just like the forced nationwide speed limit?

I think voting, military and drinking age should be 19.

And for me, it's 19 because I don't think high school students should be able to legally drink, and pretty much most kids are out of high school at 19.

PS eta - there is a difference between having an opinion on a lower drinking age and yelling at a server who won't break the law to serve you, IMO.

That's so stupid to me. So you all crunch together and drive past the mile or so of empty driving lane?
• OH and one more booze thing-- even though sales are prohibited on Sundays, if it's a winery or brewery, they can sell. So if we are too lazy to go to OH, we'll go to the small brewery pub in town and get a 6-pack.

When everyone cooperates, it actually works well. You'd think it would turn into a jam but driving speed doesn't really slow down at all until someone flies past in the empty lane and tries to jump in at the last second, causing people to slam on brakes.

I guess it doesn't make a difference to me because there are liquor stores on just about every corner here. It's just more expensive there (or so I've heard).

But this is just my made-up fantasy world where it's not actually plausible. Because in my world, alcohol wouldn't exist at all.
