Didn't Southwest Airlines consider making special new oversized seats for overweight people after the Kevin Smith thing? THAT I think is ridiculous, and I'm not exactly Lindsay Lohan.
In Response to Re: Unpopular opinions? : I honestly haven't visited their site or an event in a long time so I'm not really sure what their official message is now, but I think the point they are trying to make is that you don't have to be completely wasted to kill someone.  For some people, one drink makes their reaction behind the wheel slower.  And really, what harm are they causing?  It's not like more people will die because of what they are saying.
    Posted by steph13055
Well, there are different degrees of harm before killing people. They lobby for stricter alcohol laws, which in turn take up more government resources, increasing costs. That takes the focus away from dangerous offenders and puts it on anyone who has one beer, which is a guaruntee that those truly dangerous offenders are more likely to blend in with the crowd and slip through the cracks.

Don't be concerned yet; in the round of 16, then you can panic. Group stages always have funky upsets happening :) It's all about points right now. Though that Spain debacle this morning certainly threw me (and everyone else) for a bloody loop.

That's horrible. It makes me so sad to think of that poor dog. I just can't imagine how a person could do that.

DH worked at an emergency vet's office for a few months and they had a pit bull come in after being dragged behind a car. Luckily the people were caught and the dog was saved.

Given the size of the seats, though, I don't know if you would have to be VERY overweight to qualify. I can see someone who weights 200 pounds being accused of taking up too much room.
In Response to Re: Unpopular opinions? : Actually, by expanding the message from one that makes sense - don't drive drunk - to one that is less palatable for people - don't drive if you've even had one drink - they risk becoming a joke and being ignored for both messages, not just the one. In other words, by overreacting and exaggerating the issue, they could actually cause an increase in drunk driving.
    Posted by wadingmoose
I see what you're saying and I agree to an extent.  They have changed the message that they've had for decades and people have noticed and are wondering what the new message is about or if it's true.  Obviously some people can drive just fine after having one drink.  But others can't.

So, I don't think I would consider the new message to be an overreaction or an exaggeration.  I think if it makes one person think twice about driving when they may not be capable, then that's great and it's done it's job.  I realize some people won't give a rat's ass about this new campaign and will just do what they want.  But hey, at least the message was put out there and it's on them now.

But maybe I'm just taking this issue personally because a relative was killed by a drunk driver.  Would the new message from MADD had made a difference in my case?  No, it wouldn't.  But neither would their original message of "don't drive drunk."  So I guess there are always people who will never listen, no matter the message.

  • I'm late to the game, but here's mine:

I don't really care for Obama, but its mostly Nancy Pelosi who I think needs to go away. Seriously, I don't think I've ever heard one positive thing come out of that woman's mouth. I'd rather have Hillary up there. Please take a hike.

I also think Daniel Tosh is boring. and not really funny at all. Analyzing America's Funniest Home Videos does not make you a comedian.

And I'm totally on the sterilization bandwagon. And you should have to pay, or take a class, or something before they let you have children. There was an expectant moms "table" at my HS for crying out loud. Those CHILDREN are not ready to have babies! And most of them will be the ones having more kids to get more money from the gov't.

Oh, and I love WoW. And really really want to start playing again after the wedding. Laughing

One, I don't think airlines should have to cater to people who don't fit the mold of the normal bell curve of people.  Even decently overweight people can still fit in the airline seats.  If you are so overweight to the point you can't thats not the airlines fault or problem.  But two, there is no way to police it.  People who are regular sized will book them for the extra room.   What are they going to do, have a stewardess with a scale there determining if you are large enough to deserve them?

  • Oh, and I don't like soccer, and I think this sudden fascination with the World Cup is obnoxious. Especially when the guys turn the game waaay up in the lunch room so I feel like I'm having my meal in a bee hive.
  • I also hate the campaigns that say endorse overweight women as being healthy.  There is a difference  between being Lindsay Lohan and being overweight.  It's called healthy.  Overweight is not healthy.

Not sure if  this is an opinion or what to really call it but I HATE that doctors rarely talk to their patients about their weight problems.  Before I lost weight my doctor kept telling me I was fine and healthy.  I wasn't.  Granted, the doctor was probably worried about me going all Olson Twin on the situation but seriously?  You are going to lie to me?
Not that I think anyone will care what I say after the comments I just read, but yes, I do have reasons for not liking Obama and I do understand the Healthcare Reform Bill, benefits is part of my job and I have been eating, drinking and breathing it for 2 months now and I don't agree with most parts of it. I know most people don't understand it because I have employees constantly emailing me wanting to know when they can put their 25 year old kid who doesn't have a job and isn't in school back on their insurance.   I also handle unemployment claims for Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana and you can file for unemployment when you get fired. You won't get it, as long as the employer sends in the correct documentation, but the employer still has to take the time to fill out the documentation and attend the hearing when the former employee protests it. As for the other comments, well...it said unpopular opinions, so, there you have it.
    Posted by angela72023
Ok, for kicks, what's your beef with the healthcare reform? I will happily eat my words if you hate it for what it is. I'd actually be thrilled to talk to someone who hates it for what it is, and not because of some BS they saw on the news.

  • I hate Twilight. I feel like it was horribly written and SM hates women. THe movies were horribly done and the acting was terrible. I think Robert Pattinson was a much better Cedric.

I hate going into a restraunt and people having their screaming children. If you can't control your child, don't bring it out. I want to enjoy a nice meal out with my FI, not try to get through my meal as fast as possible because you don't want to discipline your kid.

I hate that a gay couple isn't allowed to adopt. They love each other and would love to have a child, but because they're "going against god" you don't want to let them have a child. You instead want thousands of kdis in foster care draining the government... Makes sense.

I hate  that people in the US call football "soccer". It's called football. You know what FIFA stands for? Federal Internation Football Assosciation. What Americans call football is pansy a$$ rugby. I don't get as excited about football any other time than the World Cup because there isn't anything like the World Cup! Yes, I'm going to be excited and talk with people about it. No, it doesn't mean that I don't know or watch it on a regular basis.

I hate pretty much every sport. I find American sports to be extremely boring. And I'm American. I like hockey and football. Why would you waste your time to watch any of the other boring sports out there?

Neither my sister nor BF attended UCLA, but by association with me, they have come to love my dear Bruins.  I also think that people that are from an area look at a team as the "home team" and love them just by being in close proximity.  Perhaps they wanted to go to school there but couldn't for whatever reason.

My next unpopular opinion is that I do not like pro basketball or football but LOVE NCAA ball.

I agree with this.  If I paid for a seat, why do I only get to sit in 1/2 of it because someone is overflowing into my seat?  You have to be pretty big not to fit in the seats.  Like East said, even pretty overweight people can fit.  I'd hate for the airlines to be rude to people about it once they're on the plane, but that's a slightly different issue.
