Hey , I'm so sorry you r going thru this. Not seeing you on mother's day bc mother in law more important. Nonsense . Sounds like the gf is a chip off old block of mom. Sounds like sons gf is a well....brat. idk best advice other than talk to your soon about how you'd like to be with him more , or make plans to take walks, lunches , etc things that don't break the bank. Invite son and gf or if gf doesn't come just son. Start to do all you can to make effort to be with son away from this so he can make sure it's what he wants . You are his mother , you deserve to be held high

It as in SB. There was a post about some admittedly ridiculous protest that some members of the NAACP were holding. Blueeyes chimes in that, well, because we have an African-American president, their mission is accomplished and they should just shut up until some real racism happens. And then she said that Jesse Jackson is the CEO of the NAACP. Just ignorance from start to finish, really.

Ugh, I did not want to know what she said. It was worse than I thought.
I'm still reading the healthcare thread, and Fenton is now my new favorite poster: <em>PS. "Elites" is just another word for "folks with more book learnin' than me." The new tendency for conservatives view education with contempt is highly disturbing. </em>

I ignored it.

Ha! Blueyed is the reason I avoid SB these days.
Considering we have a black president, all black universities, etc I think they have fulfilled their mission for awhile and should just relax until something really racist happens. The NAACP bothers me for reasons just like this Hallmark crap.
She later claimed that she didn't mean "at all" that the NAACP has fulfilled it's mission. It was in that post that she said Jesse Jackson was the CEO.
Though I do have a problem with Horatio Alger syndrome in general. No, it's not necessarily someone's fault that they are poor. Thanks for trying.

Wow. I don't even know what to say to that. I guess it's a good thing that I missed last week

I actually know (well, know <em>of </em>- he's a fellow WoW blogger) someone who holds the Somali pirates up as an example of why poor people have no one but themselves to blame for being poor. His argument is that the Somali pirates were poor too until they started kidnapping people and holding them for ransom. So, if you ever find yourself in truly dire straights? Carjack your neighbor. It's not a crime. It's smart!
People scare me.
I would like to point out that I'm not flaming her because she's conservative, those of you who who are reading this and think there's no political diversity on this board. Even though my views are 100% the opposite of her's. While I may be willing to give some of her lesser transgressions a pass if I was also a conservative, it's the totally made-up, uniformed BS she spouts off that really pisses me off. I do not have this problem with other libertarians or Republicans on this board. Though I do have a problem with Horatio Alger syndrome in general. No, it's not necessarily someone's fault that they are poor. Thanks for trying.

I consider myself Libertarian and even I was shaking my head at some of this stuff. Jesse Jackson as CEO of NAACP? Really? I don't read many of her posts anymore when it's political because it just drives me crazy that's she's so misinformed. And it gives those informed Libertarians/Republicans a bad name.

I love you. That is all.
What the f*ck. I'm not one for throwing the race card around (and I have my own personal issues with all black universities and pagants and whatnot) the NAACP has not somehow magically done away with racial problems because of Obama. <strong>"We got ourselves a colored up in that thar White House so y'all's negros need to stop all yer fussin' and tomfoolery until thar's another lynchin' or beatin' or some unfairs pro-se-que-shun.
In Response to Re: FFF : i get that, but I'm still judging. your BM gets his second DUI and ur firs reaction is "oh noes, how will the sides be even at our wedding!"....really....Reeeally??
Posted by CLSchramm
I'm sure it wasn't her FIRST reaction. This is a wedding board, so she asked a wedding related question about his situation and her wedding. It doesn't mean it's the ONLY thing she's concerned about in relation to this guy.
People jump to conclusions so hard and in that post in particular, people were misreading and totally misquoting the OP.
Also, I reluctantly admit that I also thought TJ's two hour cocktail hour plan wasn't great and if it had been someone else, I would have told them so; however, because it was TJ, I just decided not to respond. That was wrong of me and a double-standard. Flame me if you must.
Posted by danieliza1127
Eh, I think that happens a lot. In some ways it's a double-standard, but in some ways it's not. You "know" TJ and you know that she's not a rude guest-ignorer person overall, and you know she's going to be gracious generally to her guests, so she gets a bit of a pass.
Someone who's new or who rubs you the wrong way doesn't necessarily get that pass because they haven't earned any general goodwill points to offset what you see as a faux pas. Maybe?
I thought it was ironic when Ten said that cocktail hour was her favorite part of weddings, but then basically said in the same breath that if it went a second over 60 minutes she'd be bored out of her skull.

I don't really see a problem with your choosing not to comment. Had you agreed with her, but told a newb the complete opposite in the next thread, I'd consider it a double standard. I do that a lot too (abstain from commenting on certain things), but as long as you sort of mentally give them a pass, but don't blatantly contradict yourself all the time, I don't see a problem. With regs, we have a slightly larger picture of the whole situation, so we're bound to consider things differently.

I don't really consider myself a reg, but I do agree with this.
If someone comes here and posts once, doesn't give complete information, and immediately snaps back when people question or advise against whatever they are doing, I pretty much feel they deserve what they get.

This. Blech.
kimheartsscott - Buddy and I went to the Phoenix Pet Expo last weekend, and guess who I met? MIKEY.
Sorry, I didn't give you time to guess.
Blog
The pet expo was amazing. I put a dollar in Mikey's vest. He is an absolutely sweetheart. The people at the Lab & Giant Breed rescue were kind of exactly how I thought they'd be. We gave the rest of our dollars to the Golden rescues and the rescue Sheldon came from.
We had a really good time, though. There was an agility course, which was awesome, and it was totally packed with all kinds of stuff I never imagined existed for pets. And there was a donkey.
