It just seems dumb to say that if heels down work for you, wear flats. But if my flats hurt from an unexpected reason, I was supposed to bring another pair? The problem was it gave my blisters on the top on my feet and were rubbing them raw. I don't love flip flops for anything but the beach so that wouldn't have helped me either. Idk. I'm clearly biased, but I can assure you if I ever went to a club, I wouldn't take my shoes off. I think that's different, though.

I'm in the same boat. Probably why I can't figure out why its such a BFD for people to wear flipflops.
  • I flame Iamthemomma.   Between her SN and her posting style, she just comes across as incredibly overbearing.   And her ability to turn anything into "Well when you're a parent" is just irritating.   Most recently, the daredevil discussion on SB (which I didn't even participate in because I read it late).

I agree that Mery sounded typically condescending.   I think partially just because it's her.   Her, "Well doesn't EVERYBODY blah blah blah" attitude is tiresome.   And maybe it's because I hate flats and only own heels, gym shoes, boots and flip flops. Please tell me more about Dr. Scholls, Mery.    No flats for me because they cut my feet, not because they don't support me.

  • What if all the guys took off their shoes to dance? Would that not look a *little* bit trashy with their full tuxes? I just don't get why it's okay for girls. I have heard mens dress shoes can be uncomfortable too.
  • Meg, I do think you were in a bit of extenuating circumstances.  As comfortable as my flats were, I couldn't have ran in them either.
  • So I'm guessing flip-flop baskets aren't the wedding rage anymore?

That's why most if not all of our GM are planning to wear cowboy boots throughout or change into gym shoes after the ceremony.

I'm one of those awful people who takes her shoes off to dance at weddings.  The last wedding I was in, we had to buy yellow heels.  I wore them a few times beforehand, but didn't want to break them in too much as I planned on selling them afterwards (not my style).  Walking around for pics, standing around during the ceremony and cocktail hour, and they DUG into my big toe cuticle.  So I took them off.

Bride had gifted us yellow flip flops, but flop flops are hard to dance in, and if you aren't used to a specific pair they can give you blisters.  So, yeah, my shoes cam off as soon as intros were over.  I doubt anyone noticed anyway.

I hate feet too, but since it as my wedding I decided not to give a fuuuuuuuuck. Like I said I'd never normally do that.
  • Habs, I have worn them.  It's not even so much that they don't breathe, it's that they're completely uninsulated.  If it is cold out, your feet are going to freeze.  You're not supposed to wear them outside, I know, but if you step outside in them for any reason you'll freeze your toes off.

I was in a wedding a few years ago where the bride wanted us to wear lucite, rhinestone-studded, four-inch heels.  They were hideous and I could not even stand up in them.  I was so happy when the saleslady told them they didn't come in half sizes (I'm 9.5) and therefore wouldn't fit me.  I wore a pair of silver flats.  The bride was not happy with me.

Kind of on subject (well, not really).  We actually did have one of our GM take his shoes off at the reception to dance.  Of course, he also put on one of the BM heels and got on the dance floor...

My friend had them at her wedding a few weeks ago, and I totally changed into a pair once it was time to dance... while wearing my short bridesmaid dress. I didn't see it as a big deal. Granted, she literally didn't dictate our shoes at all and at least one of the bridesmaids wore flat sandals to the ceremony (though not flip flops.)

While I hate to backtrack now that we're in a thrilling discussion about feet, I'm on arag's side of the gun thing. No, Chrissy's comment was not the stupidest thing I've ever seen here, but it was pretty stupid. I'm all for handguns and hunting rifles and the like, but the only purpose an assault rifle has is to kill people, quickly. "It's fun" is not a good enough reason for those to be available to the general public. That's my uo? opinion. And ditto on Iamthemomma. Gag.
  • Has anyone ever admitted to being a fan of Iamthemomma? It seems like everyone finds her completely obnoxious and overbearing. I wonder why she sticks around.

EXACTLY. There are people in this world who think "OH these heels are so cute! I can't walk, dance, or even stand in them, so once everyone sees how cute I look they are coming off!" Those people are idiots.

And I practically live in flip flops, so I don't care WHAT shoes you wear, just wear some shoes. (unless there are extremely extenuating circumstances)
