Haha thank you for posting this. I was just thinking the same thing.
I am jumping on all sorts of bandwagons. Give big props to Buddy for me TJ! That is so awesome.
I am firmly on board the flame of ten along with all of the people who were all *clutches pearls* and "I'd be SO annoyed" etc etc etc. Seriously, well are always telling people that he who pays, says. And that if you're going to have a gap, keep it short and provide refreshments. So TJ's mom who is PAYING wants to have a SHORT GAP providing DRINKS AND FOOD....and you're still all uppity? If your time is that sooper spayshul that spending an hour out of your whole year hanging out chatting with friends and family and enjoying drinks and food makes you get all butthurt and annoyed and WTF, keep your ass at home. Weddings are supposed to be guest friendly, but honestly, you aren't that important.
If I wanted to hear the pitter-patter of little feet, I'd put shoes on the cat.
I agreed with tenofcups. Her argument was strongly worded and I can see how that was off-putting to a lot of people.. but I can't help but feel that if someone with zero posts to her name came along and asked "Hay guyz, can I delay the reception by two hours so I can attend the cocktail hour after an hour of picture-taking?," then the consensus would have been more along the lines of "Well, you can... but be prepared for your guests to find that discourteous, even if you do intend to host warm fall drinks."
At that point, someone would have said "I hate cider, so it's a terrible idea! Don't do it!" And someone else would have chimed in "Plus, I'm pretty sure I'm allergic to cocoa." And then someone would have said "You know who else can't drink cocoa? Vampires."
This isn't a flame, but more of an "I was shocked." I was shocked that Calypso doesn't want kids. She is pretty verbal regarding her Catholic beliefs, and having lots o' babies is a major part of the religion.

I don't think that's even true. Catholics may not use artificial birth control, but natural birth control methods (which are highly effective if done correctly) are acceptable in the Church. While there are a lot of large Catholic families, one can be completelyl within Church doctrine and have no children.
ETA: It's a rare Catholic, indeed, who follows every single tenet of the Church. I am not sure where to draw the line, but I think it's reasonable to consider yourself "very Catholic" and still decide within your own conscience that you don't wish to follow certain Church rules.

If someone had come along and explained exactly what TJ did, she probably would have gotten the same response. Once again, weddings are guest friendly, but weddings ARE NOT supposed to be built completely around what the guests want. I will make every effort to make sure you are well fed, well boozed, and have an enjoyable time. I will do my best not to do something that will make it hard for you to get to my wedding, or difficult to gt between the wedding and the reception, or make you stand around for 4 hours while I go have dinner with my family and then you can come dance with us. But I am not going to plan every detail of my wedding around you. Because at the end of the day, I or my family are paying beaucoup bucks to throw a shindig that is celebrating our marriage, not your inability to suck it up for an hour and deal. Sorry. If that makes me a big bridezilla heiferbitch then so be it.
ETA - Celles, this isn't directed at you because as I recall, you along with some others were more "I wouldn't want to stand around for an hour, so try to cut it down by 30 minutes. But if you can't, go with option 2."

Oh I don't want kids either, so I'm not judging her. It was just unexpected. I know I suck at Catholicism. I have all these heretical thoughts and I make communion jokes all the time. But I've always thought Calypso was very much into all of it. Now I know she steals from bathroom baskets and doesn't want babies.
Also, I want to flame Ricks for her little freak out at me in the political thread last week. At least I can admit when I get unreasonably uppity and overboard, and not go "I'm not getting riled up lol lol lol" when I blatantly am.

I like Blue-eyed when we DON'T talk politics, but when we do, I roll my eyes at her responses, hard. I flame her for saying that CA has a healthcare system similar to MA and that's one reason the state is broke. False. MediCal is similar to Medicaid, but it's a CA supplemental healthcare system. And the reason the state is broke has a lot more to do with low property taxes, the lack of taxes on oil drilling, and the fact that something like 2/3 of the budget is tied up in stupid ballot initiatives every year.
Just throwing it out there but most practicing Catholics I know use some form of birth control. I would say 5% of families are large where I am from. That's just an old stereotype.
Oh God, I flame the crap out of BlueEyes for saying that she doesn't want any of her money going towards any government programs in that healthcare thread. SoI guess education, police and firemen, public transportation, the roads, and emergency responses are all SOOPER BAD YO.

I'm sorry, but I'm completely flaming someone on another board I post on for starting a flame-free confessions thread and THEN saying she's started smoking again, around her 2 month old baby. When I called her out for it, I get yelled at for not following the "rules"

[QUOTE]I flame CLSchramm because I just never enjoy the things she posts.I get it, it's a week before your wedding and you are obviously freaking a little, but I just cringe every time she starts a post. You're mad at the world because a kitten scratched you? You joke about burying your FI on his stepfather's land after vowing to kill him? You are just too strange for me.

I actually missed all of that and I still think she's weird.

[QUOTE]Oh God, I flame the crap out of BlueEyes for saying that she doesn't want any of her money going towards any government programs in that healthcare thread. SoI guess education, police and firemen, public transportation, the roads, and emergency responses are all SOOPER BAD YO.

Well, California is messed up because we're all on welfare, doncha know. And it's our own damn fault for not having jobs and stuff in a state with a very high cost of living and double-digit unemployment.

[QUOTE]Just throwing it out there but most practicing Catholics I know use some form of birth control. I would say 5% of families are large where I am from. That's just an old stereotype.

Maybe it is a lot more typical than I thought. I had to have an extensive conversation about the medical reasons that require me to use bc. Lame.
[QUOTE]I like Blue-eyed when we DON'T talk politics, but when we do, I roll my eyes at her responses, hard.

Did you see what she said about the NAACP the other week? I can't believe anyone would talk to her after that.

Yeppers. I was just about to write about it on here, then I decided against it because I really didn't want to get all riled up again - she's really a moron, that one. She does have good hair, though, and used to be kind of funny, but now I really have to just ignore her.
