Agree 100%, and in no way did I mean to imply otherwise. I just don't think the crimes themselves are worse because a celebrity did them. The dogs would have suffered just as much if it had been some poor shmoe. I really do see the damage that it can do to a kid who has a role model that does something bad, so I don't really know the correct thing.

I read this thread and I understand whats being said. I was writting from a perspetive that gets annoyed when people always point to the president as being the only person who who should be fixing the problems in our country and not worrying over issue such as Michael Vick. People fan this arround and talk about it and then say that the president should be worried about larger issues...but its not the president alone who can effect change its the government... and all people can do is refrence to the president alone-that is a pet peeve of mine!

Because the president, and the president alone, called up Vick's employer in regards to this statement. My governor didn't call Michael Vick. My senators didn't call Vick's team. My president did.

I'm still not convinced you understand people's statements. No one said it was the president alone who needed to be focused on the economy, etc. People just said instead of taking time out to call up a convicted animal abuser's boss to congratulate the boss on re-hiring him is ridiculous and wasteful. We pay his salary. So, even as an Obama supporter, it really annoys me when he takes time to address a minor issue like this.

Also, your original post implied that if we ignore this issue, it will go away. When the president takes time to discuss this, it brings the issue to light and, hence causes us to discuss it.

A. Social activism takes place when people discuss issues, rather than ignore them

B. Who are you, exactly, to judge what I do or do not spend my time doing? Do you know how much time I spend volunteering for causes or educating people on issues?

Thanks for educating me just now. I am glad you volunteer for cause! No not every minute should be spent on some form of social activism-that would be physically impossible. But going on and on about this issue wont make it go away. And stating what the president should and should not be doing is not helping either.
