  • 1. Why were most people completely nonplussed by shadowkat's 18 year age gap (and she's only 22)?  You all focused on her constant switching of majors and diagnosed ADD (a major irritation of mine unless you are a psychiatrist), but no one said boo about the fact that her FI is 40.  Anyone remember that Ciara was nailed for a similar age gap?

    2. Look, if a poster has 100 posts and rarely posts on E then starts a vent thread, yes, I'm going to think it's a little weird.  I don't walk into Starbucks, approach a table of women I don't know and biitch about my coworkers.  It's weird.  If you think that's condescending, well, maybe you're more of an extrovert than me.

<div>I got one of those yesterday. I was really confused, but I didn't think it was from TK. Maybe it was.</div>
  • So, I don't know why this was my first thought when TheValidator posted in here, but I immediately thought of it being some "superhero" from the wedding bee. I'm a nerd.
  • And holy cow, I just realized how potentially pretentious that last post of mine looked. Not my intention. I just didn't even know there were songs by that title, I always think of an actor on a stage, Hamlet-style, contemplating suicide and saying "Goodby, cruel world!" before throwing himself off a building or something.

I didn't see that until much later, but I enjoyed your posts there. It was the thing that stood out to me from OP, too. Also, as the thread went on, it struck me how much she talked about, in relation to college and her major, how much she doesn't know what she wants. Yet somehow she knows that she wants to spend the rest of her life with someone who happens to be twice her age? Not buying it. I'm not one to get bent about young brides, but everything about that screamed "too immature to get married" to me.
  • YOU ARE SO PRETENTIOUS BUBS. I really didn't know the literary factor, but I think I have heard it in movies or something.
  • I've read Mother Night several times and I still didn't catch the reference.

My e-ring was free so no gifts here.
  • I know I am, Shan! It's been pointed out to me in FFF before. Heh.

I have a friend that was dating a 40-year-old guy when we were still in college and I thought it was super weird. They just didn't have anything in common, we all hated him, he wouldn't mingle his friends with hers. It was just too big an age gap to make sense. Thank goodness my friend didn't want to marry him. I wouldn't have given good odds on that marriage lasting.

Probably because it's NBD?  I know a lot of people who have happy, healthy relationships in spite of a significant age difference between partners.  It's not something I'm inclined to judge without knowing considerably more about the individuals involved.

  • I know we've moved on but I was stuck on the phone.  Not so much a flame, but more of a WTF.  I think it's really ironic how some people now are saying that want the board to have a little more drama and more flames like it used to, but I'm pretty sure way back when I (and several others) said it, we get jumped all over.  Like Eagles, I'm pretty sure you were one way back when who said you like that everyone is friends and gets along and there is no drama.  Now you're saying you want it back to the old days.  I just think it's funny how people flame others for the opinion that they then come to hold.

  • I don't know if this is a flame, per se, but I'm sick of everyone calling everything "lame."  The word "lame" is used so much on these boards lately that it feels like it's losing it's meaning.

    Someone's acting whiny?  They're lame.

Someone responds to a flame and tries to argue their point?  Lame.

Somebody decides to be Captain-Save-A-Newb or -Reg?  Also lame.

    This board needs a thesaurus.

Oh, I wasn't commenting on your flame.  It just reminded me of that story from yesteryear.

I don't doubt that weddings have "themes" or "vibes".  I surely had an idea about ours, which ended up totally fitting myself and my husband.

  • A couple of the earlier generic flames about signatures reminded me....

For some reason it bugs me when posters refer to their Hs by their real names instead of just as "H."  Not sure why, I guess it just seems out of place since we don't even call each other by our real names.
