• I love Disney. A lot. My favorite movies are Peter Pan, An Education, and maybe The Sound of Music. I also really love Legally Blonde. Clueless too.

I have a great relationship with my mom, and talk to her about most stuff. I have a really weird relationship with my dad though. It's hard to explain. I don't mind him as a person, but I don't really feel the parent-child connection with him. I don't plan on having him walk me down the aisle or doing a father-daughter dance.

Rosie, that's cute that you want to name your first born daughter after me.
Meg, I said earlier I like DC because I can walk places. I like working here because I actually have a job I guess. And because I see famous people (if politicians count) a lot. I have a question for you: do you work in a library? What do you do? I want to get my MLS and my dream job is to work in a university library doing archives and special collections.
    Posted by annakb8
Oh!  Did someone ask that question before me?  I must have missed it.

I do work in a library.  I catalog special collections stuff, actually.I don't have my MLS yet (hopefully, this will be remedied soon) and I've worked in other capacities, too.  I especially liked being a bookmobile driver!

  • Rosie: I love the name Dominic (I think I spelled it differently than you did, though. But whatever). I couldn't get H on board with it though.
Charles is a family name in my family, so I'd really like to use that as well. But we already have 2 full boy names picked out--Theodore Robert and Benjamin Eugene--so we'd have to have 3 boys to even get to that name. Yikes!

    Posted by baystateapple
Yeah, I would research it. (Of course this is all MHO). I has serious political ties with the Freedom movement. There is a newspaper called Saoirse Irish Freedom and many of the Republican groups using Saoirse have ties to the IRA. Saoirse is also the name of a group seeking the release of all political prisoners of the conflict in Ireland.

It's just that it's a heavy word/name and while I understand that there is an actress who bears the name, Saoirse Ronan, I don't think most Americans really understand what it means. I guess it's a pet peeve of mine. :)

Does anyone here listen to The Band? I fell in love with the name Anna Leigh because it was in one of their songs. The Band is probably my favoritest bands and.. story time.. the first "date" FI and I had was at panera and then we watched across the universe. We talked through the whole thing and then I was going through his DVDs and saw that he had "The Last Waltz" which is about The Band so we watched it and that is when I won him over <3

I love Saucony or Brooks shoes. I have extremely flat feet and haven't found any other brands that form to my feet. I buy a pair about every six months. My current favorite is Grid Cohesion TR4 by Saucony (around $55 on zappos). I'm saving to get another pair of Saucony Pro Grid Triumph 8 ($130). I'm pretty hard on shoes and these last a long time for me.

Huh.  Yeah, I was unaware.  H is half-Irish, and he wanted to give our kids Irish names (at least middle names).  I checked out the lists online and that was the one I really liked, and he agreed.  But he's not a history buff, and he wouldn't have known anything about that.

    I guess I'll be doing some research <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />

  • Oh - Han Solo TOTALLY made Luke look like a whiny brat and uncute.

The dog makes weird sounds sometimes when he's barking, and we call it "wookie-ing."

And I am a BIG time Daddy's girl, but I'm very close to my mom, too. My mom and I have snippy fights and then brood. Dad just tells me to get my head out of my ass. I don't normally argue with him - just mom.  I think he knows I can make my own decisions. But I'm his little (grown-up) girl. My mom pulled the old "buying the cow/getting the milk free" argument when I moved in with John, then again when we weren't engaged after he asked to marry me.  We argued about that, so I finally called my dad before our trip to FL with them to tell HIM we had rings, but to keep it from her.

  • Cfas- OMG JACK SKELLINGTON?! So. Awesome. I salute you, fellow Disney fan.  Since it's on our honeymoon, do you think it's lame if I buy the bride and groom Mickey and Minnie ears in Disney Paris? I don't think I can resist.

I really am a big fan of unique kids names. FI is a pretty old fashioned kind of guy, but he's really seeing the light on unique names. The only thing I want, though, is form them to not be spelled ridiculously. I want them to be very phonetic. I LOVE Atticus. And Artemis. And Melody. And Milo. And Lily. And Aria. ..... I'll stop.
  • mixtape- we went to Paris last year and I dragged Mr. P to Disney Paris. It was just like Disney World without the joy and happiness. I still loved it. Actually, their version of Space Mountain is a thousand times better than ours. One of my goals in life is to go to all the Disney Parks. That's two down!

Bubba, as someone who seems to appreciate Celtic naming conventions, I'm just throwing out there that no matter what our son's first name ends up being, his middle name will be Padraig. Mr. P is very dedicated to preserving our children's Irish heritage. He knows growing up Irish American was important to me, and since I lost my Irish name when I married him, he wants our kids to have Irish first/middle names. He also has a knot design on his wedding band because he wanted his wedding band to remind him of me. Reason #11, 676 why I love the crap out of that man.

Yeah, it's actually pretty neat when we get really unique stuff.  I liken cataloging to creating a bibliography or a works cited in a reasearch paper.  It's just a little more complex.

  • I'm sorry if I come across as preachy about names and stuff sometimes. It's something I really love and do a lot of research on but I totally get that my views on them are not shared by everyone and that people are allowed to name their kids whatever they want. :)

If you want any help looking up Irish names I have a ton. Also a good resource is www.behindthename.com for basic meanings and etymology.

Of course, most people don't feel the need to research everything like I do. I'm just weird that way!
