Musical: My ILs call those people "organ donors." My brother doesn't always wear his helmet when he takes his motorcycle out, and it makes me want to scream.

In 1999, I was a freshman in high school, and I also saw the BSB millennium tour then.

I've never watched Grey's Anatomy either.

There was something else I was going to say, but now I've forgotten it. Harumph.
Musical-South Carolina doesn't have a helmet law for motorcycles and for the life of me I cannot figure out why people think it's a good idea to not wear a helmet. Says the girl who was on a regular bike when she was 12 w/o a helmet and got hit by a pick up truck. Also-I realized that through these posts today I sound like the clumsiest person EVER!
    Posted by ggirl2001
I think part of it is that (and someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember this argument being made in debates over helmet laws in Massachusetts and Connecticut) if a motorcyclist is in a high-speed collision, a helmet probably won't save them.

But the flip side is, I knew a girl in high school who's dad was killed in a motorcycle accident.  He was wearing a bike helmet instead of a full helmet, and skidded on gravel (lower speed).

To this day it makes me angry.  He was an EMT and he knew better, dammit, and was stupid and left his daughter without a father.

  • Rosie, I really wouldn't worry about it.  Don't change your order if the price makes you uncomfortable.

I'll tell you right now, if I spent $500 on a cake, even if it was for a surprise for my H, he'd freak the fuuck out.

  • In FL, they had a motorcycle helmet law, and then the lady who pushed so hard for them (one of the main lobbyists) was killed about a month later in a motorcycle crash with head injuries and wasn't wearing a helmet. KARMA.

(k, that could totally be an urban legend, but I've heard it a few times. I'M NOT CLAIMING FACT, but I've heard it!)
  • I just checked MN laws. I don't think they require helmets here either, unless you are under 18. It doesn't change my opinion or feelings though. Responsibility should still extend beyond what is actually a law or not.

I confess that even though H told the Vicious Trollop to stop sending him skanky texts, I'm pissed that she put an picture of him and her as her FB profile picture.  I REALIZE that I am splitting hairs about this, and probably making it a bigger deal than it should be, but it still irritates me.

Yeah, I get the whole it might not prevent anything, but on the flip side, it could. I would rather err on the side of caution. it just makes no sense to me.

H came down to FL for college in 1997...I was in 6th grade (I think). He sounds so old when I think of it like that. By the time I graduated high school, he had already been engaged once and owned his own business.
I confess that I get the urge to lightly tap bikers or motorcyclists with my bumper when they don't wear helmets just for the pure reason that they are being idiots for not wearing helmets. I want them to learn their lesson, to the extent that they fall over and get a scrape or two but not like, die or anything. Which I of course would never actually do but it goes through my head and makes me kinda feel like a terrible person. ETA: clarity

My brother got in a bike accident recently where he got his front tire stuck on some railroad tracks and flipped over the front of his bike, and he told me that as he was flying through the air, he was thinking, "THIS IS WHY I WEAR A HEEEEEELLLLMMMMEEEETTTT!" *crunch*

I think it's kind of hilarious that he actually had time to think that thought while he was crashing, and I am glad his helmet kept him safe. And I am really hoping he went and bought a new one, because you should always get a new helmet after you crash with one.

A girl I went to high school with is in a persistive vegetative state because she wasn't wearing a helmet when she was in a motorcycle collision with a pickup truck. She still would have been hurt pretty badly, but she had major head trauma, most of which wouldn't have happened had she had on a helmet.

That is a silly argument. Like you mentioned with the girl you knew, there are so many circumstances where it would help save the person. I feel like many motorcycle crashes that I hear about, are more of the motorcyclist losing control of his own vehicle into a ditch/tree/side of the road, not necessarily a high speed crash with another car.

  • I think my bike helmet anger goes back to when a kid in my class crashed his bike in 4th grade and had some head trauma because he wasn't wearing a helmet. He was ok in the end, but had amnesia for a few days and from that time on, he was never really "all there", if you know what I mean.

Not really hate him, but hate that he can lose it faster without really trying. He's only eating better and I'm doing it with many many less points and working out 3-4 a week. It hasn't even happened yet and I already snapped at him once because of my fear.

I have no freaking clue what to do for a groom's cake. I really wish FI would just take care of it himself but I know that's not really how it's supposed to work.
