This. My full name is Kathleen, which I use at work, and everyone thinks it's ok to abbreviate this to Kathy or Kathie. And honestly, outside of work everyone calls me Katie, not Kathy anyway.

Also, I once had someone look at my name and say "oh, that's an interesting spelling of Caitlin". Yeah....

  • I'm super irked.

Yesterday a man came into my work to drop off a resume. He asked to speak to a manager, but Wednesday is a schedule full of meetings and they were not able to see him. I told him I would gladly pass his resume on if all of his contact information was listed, and he got friggin' pissed. He told me that he had dropped one off with me once already and didn't get a call back. He said "I think you're a racist."

First of all, I'd never seen this man in my life. Even if I had, I would NEVER purposely prevent someone from becoming employed. I told him that he was giving me way too much credit and that I had nothing to do with the hiring process. He kept accusing me of being a racist who threw out his resume, and said this was why he couldn't trust it in my care. I finally called down a manager who escorted him out of the building.

I know it's not a huge deal, but it stung. I'm still feeling that today. I would never want to be perceived that way. I realize he was just pulling a cheap card to get what he wanted, but it bothers me that it was said. Ugh,

  • As far as names go, mine's Danielle.  You wouldn't believe how many people call me Daniel.  Yeah, I'm a dude with DD tits, you're welcome.

Also my first name with my maiden name is the feminine form of a well known senator like, forever ago.  I still use my maiden name on air at work.  People tell me things like "oh your parents must have had a sense of humor when they named you."  Um, why is that funny?

Our caf girl irks me.  She never stocks anything.  There are never any crackers or plates and when I went down to get a cup of coffee this morning she was almost out of coffee and not brewing any new coffee.  It was 9am.  This is not difficult.  Get off your fucking blackberry, be a good little caf girl and make the damn coffee.  Some of my hatred for her comes from when she made a comment to a co-worker about me being on "a broth diet" because I get soup most days at lunch, right in front of me.  Hello?  I'm right here.  And I can hear you.

I have the opposite problem.  It's impossible to pronounce my maiden name wrong.  My married name... it's kinda fun.  Like a Russian roulette of how this person will butcher the pronunciation.  My married names rhymes with taco, but people always want to say CHOW.

  • Not gonna put it here for security reasons, but I have seen my last name spelled at least 5 different ways, some of them not even close to the correct spelling.  If you really don't know how to spell it, then ask me.  It's really simple to pronounce, but if you are just going by phonetics, there are a lot of ways to spell it.  I'm more annoyed when people who KNOW how to spell it (have known me a long time) still get it wrong.

My favorite was when a cop completely butchered it when he was writing a ticket...like didn't even get the first letter right.  I ended up getting out of that ticket because of that.

[QUOTE]I spell my first name a little differently - Jenni - so I don't always expect people to get it right.  But like everyone else said, when I send you multiple e-mails, or when you are writing on MY FB WALL, where it says my name, spelled correctly, you could at least try.  I make the effort for other people, it shouldn't be that hard to do the same. Another irk?  FMIL is "hurt" that I'm not having FI's two sisters as bridesmaids.  She texted us both the same thing and asked  <strong>"I'm having trouble understanding why they are not in the wedding.   Can you please give me some good reasons to I can help with their hurt feelings?"

  • My name is pretty simple, only 4 letters long, but people always want to add one more letter to it. This annoys me MOST when they are writing on my facebook page. Hello! My name is RIGHT THERE, how did you spell it wrong?!

Also, my brother's name is Dustin, but soooo many people call him Justin. I don't get that at all.

Ha, that happened with a friend of my mom's.  My youngest sister's name is Deidra.  My mom's friend would always spell Deidra's name wrong - Diedra - on cards and things like that.  My mom tried to correct her one time, and her friend was like "No, that's not how you spell it."  My mom: Uh, I named her?

When I was a teenager I corrected my mom's spelling - she'd been spelling "enjoy" wrong pretty much her entire life.  "Injoy."  She was flabberghasted when I busted out the dictionary to prove her wrong.  That didn't irk me, though.  That was funny.
