Night thread

Re: Night thread

• I don't get my hair dyed anymore but for a cut&color it would be way more than that. I don't know, I guess I've just gotten used to those prices. I also have really long hair so the amount of times that I get it cut is probably less.

Erin -- I think he is but he won't let on. I am mostly irritated because I think it is rude to cut your brother out like that.

• Oh yeah, the do have the Disney vacation club or whatever. I forgot about that.
• We're going on Holland.  Sailing 5 miles away from home.  :)

Holly -- those sound like some good perks!
• I filed my taxes today, and got all sad because I only worked for 3 months full time last year, and so did J. Our tax return is considerably less than last year. Which I expected, but I still feel whiny about it. Better than nothing though, I suppose.

• MuSu - I'd be irritated.  There's intimate, and then there's silly - your BIL seems to be within the silly category.  Leaving out siblings?  That's just... wow.
• I think it's super expensive to go with Disney. And you end up buying food and stuff through them so you're paying like $6 for a coke or something absurd. I could be making that up though, I don't remember exactly where I got this random information from.
• DNB -- how's the unpacking going?
• I know I sound like a broken record, but a total of 5 trips to Lowe's and 2 trips to Sherwin Williams have not yielded the correct paint color. I'm on the verge of a meltdown.

I'm mentally and physically exhausted, y'all. Just venting.

Yeah, and FSIL doesn't have any full-blood siblings (some older half siblings that she rarely sees) so its not like it would add a million people to invite the two of us. I dunno I might be irrationally upset by it, but I actually do care about seeing the ceremony part. I also just don't really get the logistics of having a same day reception in these kinds of situations. meh.

• I want to go back to Europe soon.  I'm crossing my fingers that we can this summer or early in the fall.
• Like I said, Holly, I could be making that up. I'm sure your FI knows much more about it than I do. Disney stuff is always expensive, but everything they do they do right so it could be worth it.

I don't get it either, Holly. I know people say it's technically correct according to etiquette if the ceremony is small enough. But I personally think it's a bunch of hogwash.

• Mica it's going pretty well.  I pretty much got our bedroom done today.  I need to get a closet organization shelf thing though because we just have too much crap.  Also our Ikea deak that the movers took apart to get out of the house they didn't put back together since they aren't supposed touch particle board.  Of course because it's from Ikea it's in a million freaking pieces and I have no idea how to put it back together.  I need to do some googling and see if I can find directions.

Other than that it's giong pretty well.  I'm glad to have my ktichen, bedroom and living room set up.  The upstairs I'll take my sweetass time with.

• I want to go on a cruise so badly.

Our tax return should be pretty big, but it's already spoken for (stupid credit card!)

Daff, that's frustrating. At least you're smart and doing swatches I'm assuming? I just grabbed a green that I thought would look nice for our bathroom in the old apartment. I wanted a pear color...I got Doublemint gum neon.

And random yummy for tonight: Trader Joe's Gone Bananas. Frozen chocolate covered banana chips? Yes please
• I don't know, Holly. I get it when people do AHR's and stuff but this is just weird to me.

• DNB, I think Ikea has the instructions for everything on their website.
• I don't really get private ceremonies either, but there is a long list of wedding stuff I don't really understand.
• Jill, that's a ridiculous number of attempts to get the right paint.
• Evening ladies, what's for dinner.  FI made spagetti and meatballs for me with a salad.    It was good.

Hi Jill, really good to see your back.  Glad your internship is going well.  And that the new dog has settled in.  Not much up in Western NY.  Work has been crazy busy.  We are packing our snowmobile stuff so we can go in search of snow tomorrow.  So tired of a green/brown winter.

It strikes me as just as gift grabby as a PPD after a JOP.

• Sparent -- pretty!

Dnb -- which cruise line did you use?  I'm anxious that H and I will be the youngest people on the ship, but H didn't like his Carnival experience.  :/
• Daff I can't even begin to count how many times I've been to Lowe's in the less than 2 weeks since I've moved here.  There have been days I've gone 3 times in a day too.  Hopefully you find the right paint color soon.

• Ski, I totally had you and Tortis confused because of your cute dogs! New dog is settling in, but has been very expensive to get back to good health. Between the 2 dogs, we've spent about $700 in the last 3 weeks. Too bad pet insurance doesn't cover pre-existing stuff.
• Mica the only cruise I've ever taken was on Carnival and I'm with your H. It left a lot to be desired.
• Sparent, yay! It's so pretty!!!!

And MuSu, I agree, the whole tiny ceremony/big reception thing seems gift grabby to me too.  It feels like the couple is saying "hey, we wanted to elope but then we realized we wouldn't get enough presents if we did that."  I know that's not always the case and it's technically appropriate, etiquette-wise, but that's just how it reads to me.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that doesn't get small ceremony, large reception.  I understand destination weddings (kinda), but not a small ceremony, at home, then throwing a huge party later the same day and calling it a reception.
Posted by Holly4212011
I just picture the walking in to the reception hall where we are all seated and waiting for BIL & FSIL to come in all celebratory and happy and it just seems awkward. Like WOOHOO you just got married and here you are all dressed up but we didn't see it!

Yeah, I have about 13 swatches on my walls and after much deliberation finally decided on one. And now that I have, I can't get the sample matched. I've had to delay my contractor as a result.
• I don't get small ceremonies either.  I think I'd turn down that invitation, personally.
• I've been on 5 total; 2 Disney, 2 Royal Caribbean, and 1 Carnival.  I actually really lked all of them, and honestly I like Carnival.  You do get what you pay for so the food wasn't as fancy or the shows, but for what H and I were looking for it was perfect.   Royal Caribbean is nicer, but I'm sure Holland will be amazing!
