<div>Home for a visit. But it's 80 degrees there, compared to 109 here, so I'm looking forward to it even more =P</div>
  • My current goal in life is to get a school year job.  But I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up.  I could do behavior therapy in a school but not many schools around here do it.

  • Haha Holly, maybe Shadow just is developing his wisdom slowly. After all, Shadow in HB WAS an older dog! It's cute because your Shadow is like a yellow version of the HB shadow.

  • Chrissy, you got a kegerator?  Or did you just move into my guest room and I haven't noticed yet?

  • I wonder what I want to do when I grow up tooo. I want to become an RD but I love caring for kids and practically everyone I know has asked when I plan on opening my own daycare so I kind of wonder if that's really what I should do. It'd obviously have the best food.

[QUOTE]J, I'm still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up too.  I know what I'm doing now is definitely not it.  I wish I had graduated with more useful degrees - mine are pretty on paper, but I'm not sure they are pretty enough to actually get me a job.  Boo.

<div>I'm just not going to grow up. </div><div>
</div><div>Oddly, though, my degree is in Behavioral Science and I did use it for a while when working at a center for folks with developmental disabilities. But my favorite and longest job was as the special sections editor at a newspaper. Never took a journalism class in my life. </div><div>
</div><div>And now I'm retired. At least for now. We had a drain and sewer biz, too. But you don't really go to school for that. : )</div>

  • I keep changing what I want to do, but luckily everything I've ever wanted to do requires the same degree, lol.
  • I also can't stand movies where the animals mouths actually move with cgi effects.

Sometimes, I think I'll eventually get tired of teaching, and then I wonder what I would do if I stopped teaching to earn money. My degree is pretty much useless outside of the classroom.
  • J, I bet if you moved, ahem, a bit north, there would be some schools to choose from? Haha.

  • Erin, we want to move out there eventually.

<div>That's pretty nice! Lucky for me I have 2.8 degrees (I'm one semester away from having my CDFR degree as well) and all relate to the things I want to do. </div>

I wouldn't hold my breath. Thankfully, I don't htink I'll get too tired of teaching. :) I really love what I do.

[QUOTE]I have a masters in public adminstration. I haven't seen many job openings that ask for that, sadly.  I love the field of study; I'm just not sure how to actually apply it into the real world.  Further proof that I should not have been planning out my entire life at 18 years old.  I chose dumb things - like an undergrad in poli sci and in justice and public safety. I use my associate's more than I use anything else (it's a paralegal degree).  32 year old me would like to tell 18 year old me to go into IT - more jobs, and YOU LIKE COMPUTERS! 18 year old me didn't know that I liked computers.

That is what my brother does. He has been a city manager, county manager and now is city administrator. He loves it. But, is getting his doctorate so he can teach.

  • Haha oh yeah J, I forgot we have H's with the same backgrounds. Just different states of origin. Well, we have compromised by the location we are in right now because it's halfway between our families and still country. Is your Hs hometown near your city?

  • Glo, when the day arrives that I come home from work and Chrissy is sitting on my sofa, drinking my beer, I'll text you.  I promise.  It'll happen someday, I'm certain.
  • Come to Denver J&K - less rain, more sun :).

[QUOTE]Wally, I know that theoretically, I can do stuff like that, but you have to break into the public sector before getting into positions such as those.  <strong>Getting into the public sector in Alabama right now isn't a great idea, as the public sector keeps laying off employees.  I certainly don't want to be at the bottom of the totem pole when layoffs start coming down. </strong>I'll have to wait out the economy, I imagine.  Or just keep searching the public sector jobs until something pops up that I'm qualified to do.

<div>That would be horrible. He's been mostly in the midwest but his very first gig was a little town in Maine. His back yard bordered Canada. It was gorgeous there. </div>

  • I just got a call from J and he said they are ahead of schedule which is great, but since they are going so well, he might just stay there til the end of the project. Which means he will be getting home earlier but I was really looking forward to seeing him on Thursday. He's also been offered several 100k plus contracting jobs for next spring. I feel all conflicted because I just want to be with him and while I was cool with maybe moving south for grad school.... I was NOT thinking Chicago. Like I would rather move so many other places. It is just not at all where I want to live, ever.

  • Holly - the Kindle book list doesn't have any GOOD romances.
  • I've heard the suburbs around Chicago are pretty nice. I've never been myself though so I don't know a whole lot.

<div>Nah, you'd just figure out which condo H's grandma lives in and charm her into letting you into ours.  You're resourceful.</div>
  • Musu, what don't you like about Chicago?
  • Chicago is a great place to visit. I just could never live there. I also don't really want to move anywhere with a higher COL. It's not like this is set in stone or anything but he is getting such great offers that he's excited about and I don't want to be the downer about it. But I really don't think I would agree to live there. I am cool with him doing it while I'm still in school next spring because I'm used to us being apart and I'll be busy. But once I graduate, the plan was to be together at all times. Bleh.
    image
  • MuSu - does that mean he might go right into working and not go to grad school?  Could that path come back to bite him in the butt at any point?
