Saturday Night Fever

Re: Saturday Night Fever

  • We were all required to take some form of arts for a period and I chose dance. The teacher covered a lot of things, usually contemporary and hip hop. Surprisingly, since I wasn't even allowed to listen to mainstream rap, I was really good at hip hop.
  • Wow that is so cool that your HS offered dance, Aryn. I was thiiiiiiis close to going to an arts high school in 11th grade (it was only an 11th and 12th grade school). But then at the last minute I chickened out because I didn't think I could handle being surrounded by artists at all times. I needed the variety.

Daff are you excited for Vegas week? I love the drama.

Holiday weekend? Are you one of those lucky people taking days before or after the 4th? LOL

  • Eags, I don't blame you.  Have some wine.

Yea Musu, my HS was actually known for it's dance and theater. It was pretty cool. They are one of the only HSs in the country authorized to put on Wicked.

    Eags, holiday weekend?

ETA: Apparently I don't type fast enough
  • Wow that is awesome Aryn. And it was just a normal public HS?

  • Eags-def no wine for you! Vodka Ok?

  • Oh, no it was a private school. My graduating class was 95 people.

[QUOTE]Steffi, days off before! We're closed the first part of the week. Zizi, I'm not a wine girl.  It gives me a headache and makes me barf.

    Lucky girl!

That is a very long weekend, hope you have a good time.

  • Aryn-that is really awesome! My HS had a really good theater program, but you wouldn't have known it from the crap we had to put on. The principal was an LDS bishop who disliked evrything except shiiiiiit like "Little Mary Sunshine". It sucked.

Still catching up on my Masterchef episodes --- I always think this during cooking competitions, but seriously I don't think I could be a judge (if I had the cred I mean). I'm so picky and I doubt I would like half of these dishes. Plus they have to taste some seriously gross shiiit when people mess up.

Yep! There's one girl in particular that I really, really hope makes it. Eliana Girard. She's fabulous.
  • My old roommate introduced me to scotch. I'd never tried it before then, and now I love it.

But, we still usually drink Vodka for some reason. Guess old habits die hard.

<div>I can't remember anyone's names in audition rounds. I seriously get impressed with what they do for their group round. People act like the Hollywood Week group episode of American Idol is hard... ummm pretty sure group dances are WAY harder. It absolutely boggles my mind. To get a random song, get grouped with 4 other people who probably don't all dance the same style, AND have to choreograph an ENTIRE routine with 4 or 5 different minds coming together.... in one night.... It is insane. At least with singing, there is already an established melody and lyrics so the main difficulty is memorization. </div>

Hi Ladies! I just woke up from an extremely long nap, and thought I had to go to work. Luckily, It's not Monday. :)

    We're Married!! And I couldn't be happier!
  • This is Eliana:

Speaking of Wicked, I went to high school with a girl that was Glinda in the Chicago production for awhile. She's amazingly talented.
  • Oh yeah, I liked her too! I hope the praying mantis dude gets far too. I am surprised the judges didn't get more excited about him -- he is exactly what the show needs to shake it up a bit.

    Thats cool, Daff!
    image
  • Oh yeah, I thought praying mantis dude was gonna be awful, but he was really really good. I think this season's auditions have been really good. I loved the dragon house dudes. I doubt they'll make top 20, but it was a real treat to see them.
  • Oh yeah I liked them too! people like that have rarely made it far enough but sometimes they do. Like Twitch (though I didn't like him).
    image
  • Yeah I didn't really care for Twitch. He was kind of a reject from the previous season. But I'll admit I was biased, because Kherington was one of my two least favorite contestants ever on the show, so I found it impossible to enjoy Twitch by default.

I'm not really a fan of the hip hop genre in general, though sometimes there are routines I really enjoy. But I love the popping and locking, every time. Those dudes are amazing. Like Robert Muraine and Philip Chbeeb. And the dude with scoliosis. I just love what those guys do.
  • DH has Plantar Fasciitis (? Spelling). We've spent a small fortune in shoes and insoles and he's doing his exercises, but it's getting worse probably because of his job. He's standing on concrete all day reseting grocery stores.

Tonight I bought one of those foot bath things with the massaging jets. He sounded like he was in heaven when he was using it before bed. LOL

    image
  • Oh eff, Kherington was AWFUL. I agree that popping and locking is awesome. I usually like hip hop best when it is without all the spinning on the ground/floor. haha. I actually knew a girl in Season ...4? Her name is Kourtni Lind. She got eliminated like the 2nd week after the top 24 or whatever. She competed against me for years and we were usually in the same category.

  • Ugh PF sucks, Steff. I've only gotten it once or twice but man its no fun at all.

  • Not gonna lie, I kinda liked the exorcist guy. I think he'll either do amazingly well or will never be able to grasp other dance styles though.

I've never had it, thankfully. I don't know what else we can try to make it better. He goes back to the doctor in two weeks.

Yeah, not sure how he'll do with other styles, but that routine was a work of art.

  • I liked him too, Aryn but who knows how he'll do!

Gawd, Kherington was so freaking obnoxious to watch at all times. Kourtni is good, but I have this weird thing that still bugs me because she was in our category all the time even though she was a year younger and should've been in the category below a lot of times. Oh well. She always beat me, of course, lol.

I miss the old stage too. I felt like it was more intimate and I got to see the dances better.

  • G'night all...
