Also holy crap, one semester of law school (I'm assuming it's the same as far as average credit hours go, maybe a little higher?) would cost the same as what my BS will.

Really though? Is it reasonable to drop one's life in your midthirties with no funds to pay for school so go into that much debt without bringing in an income, only to find probably there aren't that many entry level law jobs out there? That was sort of my impression of the reality, without knowing too much about it.

No you are likely right. I mean, I just was saying that age wise, I've seen a huge variety in who is in law school. I'm guessing a lot of the older students got out of their career because they really didn't like whatever they were doing, enough to take out loans. You are an engineer right (or am I making that up?)? I do know that science backgrounds for law students will probably have more job opportunities afterward because there are much fewer eligible people for those positions.

Ah ok, gotcha. Engineering is no joke either. I don't know how J does it.
Musu, I was just checking out my summer options for school too. But if I had to pay $1500 per credit, I think I'd cry. I know I would, actually. I think mine is like $1500 per three credits, for summer classes. Still expensive to pay outright, but not nearly as bad as yours. But you're going to make a lot more than I do when you're done.

Yeah I think the only reason they can get away with it is because of the salary future. But at the same time, employers probably hire with the knowledge that their associates need to pay of those damn loans. Honestly though, I do think legal fees are reasonable (provided the lawyer is diligently working for the client), given the workload.

Engineering backgrounds are highly sought after for intellectual property law, especially with patents. In fact, you have to have a science bachelor degree in order to even practice, I think. And that area of law is only growing with technology.
Hi Daff! I you and all, but you and LDY will have to join Musu in law school without me. I'm having enough trouble just getting a history M.A.
And Musu -- yeah, I 100% agree with you. For that kind of money and that kind of effort you need to put into getting a degree, you deserve to be paid for it.

The firm that I'm interning for during this semester, bills $150 per hour for law clerks. I think that is pretty average for a small but successful firm.

A lot of schools probably do have some sort of scholarship for science backgrounds. Not full rides, but ya know.
All this talk of law school is making me jealous. I decided too late in the game that I wanted to go, and couldn't get my GPA to a stellar place, and I didn't do well enough on the LSAT to make it worth applying. I think sometimes about trying to re-take it and see if I could make it happen... but it's not really like the ACT where you just re-take it until you do well, haha.
Snail, I am most interested in children's issues, and family law. I have a boutique interest in animal law but it is so small of a sect of law, that it would be something to do on the side, not as a main practice.
