[QUOTE]In Response to Re: AYG/TK confessions/I Judge : I can relate to this. I have a degree in psychology and I'm a damned good listener IRL, but online?  Not so much.  There's only so much you can say if you aren't religious enough to sincerely offer up "thoughts and prayers," and "vibes" is so overused that it's basically meaningless.  <strong><u>It's not that I don't care.  It's just that I often don't know what to say that hasn't already been said</u></strong>.

[QUOTE]Following with the parents who shouldn't be parents.. I judge the parents from Gloucester who kept their 7 year old daughter in a cage, only feeding her 2 poptarts a day. I judge them for the remains of another child found in their yard. And I judge them for proceeding to have another child, a boy, who had a beautiful nursery and was VERY well taken care of.  All in the same house.  Their 7 year old weighed 16 pounds when social services found her.

I'm kind of the same way. But I find it hard to care about people I do know sometimes too (case in point, the drunk guy from my earlier post) if their problem is self-induced. But I do feel for people like in AATB's situation, which I can't even imagine.

Celles, I never say I'll offer prayers either because it wouldn't be honest. But if I say hugs or you're in my thoughts, then I truly mean it.
  • I have to say everyone says they don't want to see the drama and emotional things, then complain when the board is all happy go lucky puppies and rainbows.. Lose lose situation.

I also agree that alot of times I have no clue what anyone is talking about because most of you are friends on FB so you just "know" and that leaves the rest of us going O.o?? Almost feels like your butting in KWIM?

That doesn't make you horrible!  It makes you honest -- and braver than me, because I often don't care either. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-embarassed.gif" border="0" alt="Embarassed" title="Embarassed" />

I think that you (general you) should be willing to give at least as much as you expect to take.  If you never have anything to contribute (I'm looking at you, random lurker who never posts unless it's to ask for "vibes" *stare*) -- or if you actively seek to make the community <em>worse</em> for your presence (*cough* Nivea *cough*) -- then I don't think you're entitled to anything.  Those people I definitely don't care about.  I wouldn't wish harm on anyone, of course, but I prefer save my empathy for those who give as well as take.

[QUOTE]<strong>my opinion, the board has changed - </strong>it is a lot more over sensitive talking about innermost feelings and emotional issues. it feels like all.the.time lately. it didnt used to be so overbalanced with the personal issues being constantly discussed and its just sort of... i dunno. its like a wet soggy tearstained pillow in here all the time.

<div>I think it's because we know each other better than the average message board. We've already done every poll, a lot of debates, even religious discussions. The regs pretty much know where we all stand and what our general interests are. So it's the whole " .... What do we talk about now?" game. The idle chit chat can bore me as much as drama, I don't know the answer, I think the trick is just having a balance of all different threads.</div>

drama (in board fighting) and emotional crap isnt really the same thing though.
  • Maybe its because if I had a serious emotional problem, I wouldnt post it for hundreds/thousands of randos to see.  I like my relationship with the girls on here and they are a great support system, but I would save the heavy stuff for a more private venue.  Fb, pm's, etc.

But that is my personal preference.  It doesnt mean that is how everyone else should feel.

I don't really mind when people post about their problems--it just means that I probably won't post on the thread, for the reasons that I said (I don't think people particularly care or want to know that they are in my thoughts, and like Celles, I don't pray, for anyone).

I like drama. And it's ok when someone posts a 'woe is me' thread, every once in a while. But to see the sad, troublesome threads from so many people and on a constant, consistent basis, it brings me down. And that's not why I started visiting and posting on this board.

<div>I kinda feel the same way. I mean, I really like most of the people on here, but sometimes it seems like people know everyone else so well that I don't feel comfortable jumping in, like congratulating people about jobs or babies. I want to, but it feels like everyone else will feel it's not genuine because they don't know me.</div><div>
</div><div>The FB thing makes it difficult too. Maybe it's because I'm not one of those people who can easily say, "hey person I know from the boards but not in real life, want to be friends on FB?" I mean, I'd like that, but it's awkward for me, KWIM?</div><div>
</div><div>I've just figured I'll just keep posting, and eventually I will be more comfortable with "friending" people.</div>

I think the flip side to everyone knowing each other so well, and people being so overly senstive/emotional, is that it is a rare thing lately for people to be able to debate anything without someone getting super butthurt, gbck'ing, thinking people dont like them, etc.

I hate having to censor myself in a thread because I worry that people might go off their rocker.

    Miz & Dot...agreed :)

I judge MicheleButtHurt or whatever her name is on WP about being uspet that a friend of over 20 years was not chosen to be MBH's MOH and expressed her feelings over this.  The friend was recently diagnosed with cancer and Miss Butthurt is all upset about how said friend is treating her and not answering her calls or texts and isn't quite sure if the friendship is worth it anymore.

WTH you gigantic A-hole???  Funny how she never came back to the thread but how could you after being such a douchecanoe??

I understand it's not the same thing that's why I said drama AND emotional things. Still falls in a category that people aren't really liking to deal with. I just see that no matter how the board is at any given time someone (no one specifically) is complaining or not liking how the board is.

Just my take on things is all.

  • About the FB thing: I had to deal with that too when I first started posting. It's just the nature of this board. Sit back, relax, and wait for someone else to friend you. It might be a few months. There are people who are mega-regs for a whopping week or month and we never see them again. I want to triple-check you are chill, human, female, and actually plan to hang around before I friend you. Again, this is just the way of things.

Sadly I see it happen often though.  I really like having intellectual debates with people on here.  I LOVE hearing all types of opinions ( and no, not just political stuff).  But its like the second you disagree with someone, it turns into a big deal.  Its not fun anymore.  If i disagree with you, that doesnt mean i dont like you.  It just means we disagree.  I actually will probably want to talk to  you even more since I find it interesting.

blue already said it so technically youre the 2nd :p
  • Also, I think most annoying AW newbs/trolls are ReneeJacob on the simple fact that she always used the board as her personal LoveLine, a never-ending supply relationship drama and medical advice. Now every time some one annoys me in the same way, I think "Renee? Is that youuuu?"

  • I agree that people are overly emotional about things that are said. (sadly I was guilty of the whole I don't think anyone likes me thing) As far as what is said and taking it too personally I don't understand that one.

I personally really like seeing how you guys react to each other and the things that come out in a debate. So many of you are so compassionate about different things. I also enjoy hearing other peoples point of views.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: AYG/TK confessions/I Judge : I kinda feel the same way. I mean, I really like most of the people on here, but sometimes it seems like people know everyone else so well that I don't feel comfortable jumping in, like congratulating people about jobs or babies. I want to, but it feels like everyone else will feel it's not genuine because they don't know me. The FB thing makes it difficult too. Maybe it's because I'm not one of those people who can easily say, "hey person I know from the boards but not in real life, want to be friends on FB?" I mean, I'd like that, but it's awkward for me, KWIM? I've just figured I'll just keep posting, and eventually I will be more comfortable with "friending" people.

    Agreed.

And I'm just going to say it.  I feel ignored on this board a lot, like no one really responds to my posts on certain things.  I don't know if it was b/c of my rocky start or certain posters don't care for me, but nonetheless I still feel ignored.  For example, I complimented Blue the other day and didn't get a word back.  Granted, she may have missed the post altogether or maybe Blue just doesn't care for me, which is ok too, but it still bothered me a tad.

I confess that I don't always speak my mind and cautiously review my posts before actually posting them.  I have the exact personality of AATB...very quick and cunning and sometimes want to say "hey you beautiful hoars" and just be my hilarious self...but fear it would come across the wrong way.  I am sooo much more funnier IRL.
