I can't give you too much credit on this one.  Most people I know are of the firm opinion that if you can't laugh about this crap, well, you're doomed.  It's not like we're going to speak Chinglish ALLLLLL the time.  That's way too hard.

I am offended by them. That's what I am trying to say. My mother, a first generation Korean, is offended by them. I don't know how other Asians on this board feel about them, because I am the first to speak up about it. Maybe it's just me then.

I'm not saying, "don't make the jokes" or "don't speak Chinglish alllll the time." I just didn't like the sentiment of "this is an accepted language on E." It didn't sit right with me. You are a popular reg, and what you say carries weight. I didn't want someone else who shares my feelings on this to feel as though this board was in agreement that Chinglish is just fine and dandy.

  • Well, I'm sorry you're offended by it, and I'm not really sure that me saying it's okay to pop some Chinglish into a thread every so often is going to cause the entire world to follow me.

Amoro, please don't take my words to the extreme. That's not what I said, and I honestly wasn't trying to single YOU out for making the comments, promise. I've just noticed trends on this board aren't hard to start, like the "boardwar"-ish comments at the bottom of the page that everyone's doing now. And last week there was a whole thread at least with a bunch of regs doing the ROR thing, etc. I've just seen it more and more, and wanted to speak up before it became one of those things that everyone thinks is okay and does without thinking. I know people aren't assholes here, and would probably want to know if they were doing something potentially offensive to the readers of this board.

Jesus Christ you fuccking idiot, plenty of people are/can be offended by these types of comments.
  • I'm offended when people above the Mason Dixon line use the word "y'all".  Alix used it earlier and I clutched my pearls hardcore.
  • So, I think on the Chinglish front, the answer is it's ok, from time to time, if you know your audience?  Like a lot of jokes that are in questionable taste, it has a lot to do with who says it and to whom as to whether it's ok or not.

But not blanketly ok, because many people DON'T know the audience here and we don't know where they're coming from.

I think that pretty much sums it up, Squirrly. :) I'm not here to censor anyone's every thought and word. That would make me a major bonerkiller.

It's okay Opal. I know it's not meant in a mean way. To me, it's like gay, retarded, what have you. There is always someone here who is going to take offense to stuff like that, so I just stay conservative in this setting and don't use any of those terms.

Okay, I feel like I've been lecturing you guys for the past half-hour. Ick. Someone please change the subject. ;)

  • Lala discriminates against the visually challenged. I thought that was common knowledge.

it's ok. one of my best me's is cross-eyed.
  • ....and back to the love!

p2 - she always speaks her mind, and I almost always agree with her when she takes a stand.

mandy - she made me feel better last week about some stuff that's been going on, and I really appreciated that.

  • I'm so, so late but I want to spread some love. I really do like everyone on the board but:

Fischy. Your posts always make me smile

Mandy. You make the best polls ever! And you remind me A LOT of my big sister, which is nice.

I love Amoro, P2, and Daff's attitude. I like when people put their oppinion out there, whether you like it or not.

    OWN seems like a sweetheart

Mrs. Jesse always has a wealth of random information. Which is awesome, because I love random facts,

Sun-I want to steal your wedding. Or at least your photographer.
