Hello? Anyone else here?

Re: Hello? Anyone else here?

• My internet router is a being a real diick. Every time I want to connect a device again (like my Kindle, phone, laptop) I have to restart the router. So I end up restarting the router several times a day. Used my Kindle at work? Gotta reset so I can connect. Used my computer on campus? Gotta reset. Grrr. Is there some setting I need to change?
In Response to Re: Hello? Anyone else here? : Well, for example, last week when it was so cold, most of the kids who came to school used it as time to get one-on-one (or close to it) time with their teacher before exams this week. Less kids= more attention. Final exams at our school are all this week, so it was a good opportunity to ask questions they were wondering about, use the schools resources to study (many of our students don't have internet at home), write practice exams etc. But even so, usually the numbers are close to the same regardless of when the snow day is. It's sort of just part of life here- those who are ABLE to come (and are concerned about academics) generally do, and then the rest who don't are usually because they can't safely get to school, or they see it as a "free day" off. To be fair, we also have between 5-8ish snow/inclement weather days a year.

Aah, I see.  Well I have to give the kids that show up all the credit in the world.  It must be great to see kids come in to get help with their grade.
• Erin - I'd buy a new router.. or call GeekSquad or something.  That's not right.
We got snow Friday night, and I was impressed that they plowed my street on a Saturday morning.  We live right by a school, so during the week our street is done pretty early for school traffic, but weekends are usually a whole different story.
In Response to Re: Hello? Anyone else here? : Oh yes, and that's the other thing- usually the kids who don't come to school on cold days, can be seen hanging out, wandering around town all day, or toboganning/sledding. So we might as well have classes.
Posted by mrs.jesse
You might as well.  Here they just cancel school completely.

I remember one time we had a 5 day weekend due to snow.  It was awesome.  All of our group of friends all brought 4wheelers out to one friends house, who had a huge hill, and we slingshot people by stopping real fast and they let go.  Scariest thing in the world.
• I figured it was in Canada. :)

I haven't seen any of these schools, but I hear they exist.

As for the no plowing thing, I think they feel since you are required by law to have snow tires, that gives them carte blanche to not take care of the roads as well. Last year, when it was REALLY cold (-30C) and snowing and blowing all the time, they paid more attention to the bike paths and sidewalks than the roads. But, I do live in the south, so I don't actually know what the situation would be further north where it's ACTUALLY cold.
• Blah. I need to get to bed. I don't WANNA go to work tomorrow. *pout*
• Did I miss anything fun/exciting/interesting this week?
• I'm soaking in all this Canada that is going on.  It's so weird to me, but still so cool to hear about.
In Response to Re: Hello? Anyone else here? : Here, we aren't allowed to ever close the schools. Apparently it's a safety hazard, because if a kid showed up and noone was there, they could freeze. So schools are open, so anyone is free to come to school, we just aren't allowed to move forward with the curriculum/teach anything new.

Makes sense.  I didn't think of it that way.

She posted two poll threads, asking if we would ever sleep with a married man.<div>
</div><div>Then she posted a thread wanting to know if we ever have, would, whatever it might be.  She was like "Well I'm about to spill my lady juices on my work chair" or something to the effect.  It was gross.  Why would we sleep with married men?  We are marrying our own..</div>
• I am so not excited for dinner tonight. I have everything prepped for butternut squash soup but its not exciting me. Maybe I will just eat cake for dinner.

Biggest issue right now is we are almost out of fire wood. Not that we are almost out of firewood we have in the house, no. ALMOST COMPLETELY OUT. Like last two logs are on deck for the fire we have going currently. This is a big fvcking deal :(

• FI is watching the Pats/Baltimore game and I'm cooking some meals for the week - I'm sick of starting cooking at 6:30 at night - I'd rather make some stuff we can reheat. So far I've made a quiche and I'm thinking a soup is next.
• reheated quiche doesn't sound good to me.

When I was meal planning regularly I usually planned 3 or 4 meals that would also make leftovers, and made sure i had all the ingredients for them and then made the one I felt like when I got home from work.  It worked out... allright.

Hi Andy!!  I wanna see your new hairs!
• Meal planning is...I don't know what it is because I've never done it.

• Ha FIshy... I will always remember when you posted a picture of what was in your refrigerator one time.
• I hardly ever actually think "Hmmmm...I'm in the mood for pork chops tonight."

I make things that we always enjoy eating and very rarely do I think "OH MY GOD I DO NOT WANT TO EAT THAT DAMN SPAGHETTI TONIGHT!"

Is that weird?  Usually if there's something specific that I'm really in the mood for, it's pizza or a burger from our favorite burger place...not something that I make.  Even though  think I'm a good cook and we always enjoy the food I make.

AM I EVEN MAKING SENSE?  I feel liek I'm not communicating what I mean very well.

<div>This one is actually pretty good - it is a Broccoli, Cauliflower and Swiss Quiche. And it doesn't have a crust so it reheats well. </div>
