[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Help me waste my evening away : II wasn't really unhappy for a long time - I had two decent horses, leased a barn, had two horses in training to me, and was somewhat content. Then I had a very bad accident on one of my client owned horses. I had no health insurance because my family owned business didn't provide it, my parent's didn't believe in it, and I just decided I wanted to be on my own and able to make decisions for myself instead of my parents dictating everything to me. I also had no PTO or sick time at the family business, my mom, who owned one of the horses at our barn, griped about caring for the barn while I healed, etc... I left about 5 months after my accident. I couldn't make it on my salary working for mom and dad, but they forced me to work a 6 month notice for them, so I worked 3 jobs for 6 months to survive. Our relationship has been rocky for the past 5 and a half years even without my DH who they blame for a lot of things.

It has gotten better, though they still don't speak to DH. Their loss, he's a great man who treats me like a queen. I couldn't ask for a better partner to share my life with.

    </div><div>And hello Angel! </div>
  • I don't lurk on other boards now that I am married, but does LDS or fundalmentslism come up on the Customs and Traditions board? Hmmm. More intrigued now than ever.

  • I don't really tend to lurk anywhere.. SB, I guess, but I'll occasionally post there. The only other board I ever visit is the Philly board, which I also post on sometimes.
    imageWedding Countdown Ticker
  • I used to lurk on Budget Brides, but I don't really do that much anymore. I also post on my local board but it's pretty dead. I only go to CC or SB if someone tells me there is something juicy going on.
  • I came here because of my DD's upcoming wedding, but really I just like the whole wedding thing. It's fun. And people are so interesting. Before I retired (after my DH's accident; not necessariy by choice) I was a journalist, so I miss being around people and talking with them all the time. Kind of weird, I suppose. But I don't really mind being weird! LOL

  • Hi Holly and Angel!

The company's owner and now CEO is supposed to be in our location this week. Which means business attire instead of business casual/jeans that we usually wear. I need to decide what to wear so I can iron it tonight.

I plan to work until 2ish, so I'll be on until then. Or until I fall asleep on the keyboard, whichever comes sooner.

Some medications can make you very sun sensitive and it can take a few weeks for that to go away. IIRC Cipro is one that does, Topomax does, it's a relatively common side effect of medication.

<div>Ditto on some meds making you more sun-sensitive. </div><div>
</div><div>If you are really miserable with your burn, slather it up with white vinegar. It helps with the sting and also helps prevent peeling if you are prone to that. Of course, you will smell like a big pickle, but it works!</div>

  • I think it's leftover from when I was on accutane. I've been off it for a year and a half, but the sensitivity didn't go away. It's not bad, as long as I wear at least SPF 15, I'm fine, but I suck at reapplying... Interesting about the white vinegar. I don't know if I could deal with the smell.

SPF 15? The least I can wear is SPF 45, I usually wear 60 and own some 100.  And, I wear SPF clothing and a hat if I'm going to be out for long. I burn really easily.

White Vinegar works great. I like Solarcain better, though. Better living through modern chemistry.

  • Apparently anything over SPF 50 is a scam.. it's not possible for it to be any stronger than that. I don't know how they get away with claiming it is.

I don't know - my Rheumatoligist and Internal Med recommend SPF 85. I use the Zinc/Titanium Dioxide ones because I'm also allergic to common sunscreens, they're more of a physical barrier than the other chemical ones. I have some SPF 100 but it's chemical and I wore it down in Florida on my face somewhat.

I know that I burn and that I end up with a fever and a flare if I'm not really careful about sunscreen and long sleeves.

  • Most sunscreens make my eczema break out on my hands so I always look for a spray on, but so many of them still need to be rubbed in after spraying on.   Best one I've found is the Nutrogena Cool Mist sprays.

I'm allergic to most suncreens, the only one I can use that I haven't had a problem with yet is the Neutrogena spray kind.

How can you? That's the smell of summer, beaches, and vacation. I sniff it at work sometimes just for the happy memories it brings.

I hate the smell of Noxema.

I have some of it and it doesn't bother me as bad as most other 'regular' sunscreen.

You should try the Banana Boat Natural, it doesn't have the same chemicals in it.

I'm also allergic to lanolin, I have a terrible time finding skin care products. And, hubby is allergic to Aloe. We're a fine pair!

LOL ... I think it is because so many of them have coconut scent, and that makes me want to hurl. I know, I'm a weirdo. Plus, I live in a landlocked state, so not a lot of beach activity for me! (Although I love going to the ocean when we travel to a coast!)

    Noxema is NASTY

Yeah, I have a tough time with anything that goes on my skin. I have psoriasis and skin allergies, so everything aggravates either one or the other.

  • I love the beach.. I'm so glad we got our shore house. It's nice always having somewhere to go when I want to go down. If FI didn't have bar prep, I'd be down a lot more.

  • I love sunscreen. The smell is great. After our week in FL I am the tannery I have ever been. No pink. I can't believe it; but we were really careful about putting it on, even on cloudy days I was gettin darker. I'm not one to purposely tan, but this just happened from it hiking and beach lunches. Anyway, I'm off to bed. G'night!
