I currently live in Los Angeles. I've lived in California my whole life. All my family is here which is a plus. I can't complain about the weather as it is about 70 all year long. I would love to move out state just to see what else is out there.

Exactly! I stopped using cinnamon apple scented candles year-round because they lost their novelty. I burn Cinnamon apple in the fall and piney scents in the winter. I LOVE Christmas time because the christmas tree makes my apartment smell awesome!

  • I live in VA because my dad threw a coin onto a map of the States and it landed on VA. No joke. We were living in Kuwait and knew we wanted to go back to the states but he didn't know where. I almost moved to Montana for college, but went to JMU on a tour to shut up my dad who wanted me to look at 1 in state school. I fell in love and stayed here. Scott and I have talked about moving to PA and Maine in the future though (once kids are born/older)

it is SO good!  My H stockpiled it last Christmas.  I think we still have 2 cartons on the Edy's Pumpkin Pie ice cream.  The apple pie and the hot cocoa ice cream was good too.

I'm a peppermint stick ice cream fan myself
  • To all: Why do you live in the states/location that you live in? Name something great about living there! Is it family? Weather?

I grew up in Western NY, met my H in high school, and stuck around here because our families still live here and it's a beautiful area.

The changing of the leaves is stunning in the fall, especially in the Finger Lakes Region (where there also happens to be copious amounts of wine).  There's really a lot to love about the area, though.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

And, Kate, I agree about seasonal smells/scents also.  I burn the Yankee tarts at seasonally appropriate times.  I love Beachwalk in the summer, Christmas Tree in the winter, nothing for spring (lame on my part) and I have every fall scent.

I live in Muskoka, ON. My mom is from BC, but her parents had a cottage up here. She moved to Toronto when she was 16 (because she has bigger balls than anyone I know), and eventually wound up back here.

The area is amazingly beautiful in the summer. We have 5 billion lakes, and everyone comes here to cottage. The population quite literally triples during the summer. It's hella expensive though, and there's a lot of famous people who have cottages up here. We do Martin Short's plumbing =)

I moved from MA to CT for grad school and Mike followed me after he graduated college. We both ended up finding jobs we love down here so we stayed and ended up moving even closer to NYC. I love New England fall (but I am starting to hate winters) and it is really tough being so far from family and friends so I guess our jobs are the things keeping us going. I am so busy though I don't notice being far away like I used to and most of my friends are moving on to other parts of the country too.
  • I really want to visit Maine, Katie. I have this really romantic idea of main with lighthouses and ocean and all that.

One thing great about living here is that my family and FI's family both live here. I love being so close to them.

I was born in this area and grew up in the town just north of where I currently live.  All of my family is in Texas, and most are in the Dallas area.  I love the people (most of the time), there are tons of universities/colleges in the area, the job market is decent, housing is affordable, shopping is great, and the weather is decent most of the year.

The only other places that I would even consider living would be Austin or Colorado.

  • Steph - I know you've been asked about your bird before but I don't remember your answers.  What kind is it?  Is it loud?  Does it take much care?

(FI has a parakeet that spends a lot of time out of its cage and hanging out on his shoulder, he keeps talking about getting another bird)
  • To all: Why do you live in the states/location that you live in? Name something great about living there! Is it family? Weather?

I'm in Hamilton, ON.  I've always live in Ontario, and most of my life near Hamilton.  I lived in the city I worked in when we were renting, but when it came time to buy, the further you get from Toronto the cheaper real estate is (unless you go so far you're in cottage country, like Anysunrise) and Hamilton allowed us to get much more house (and yard) for our dollar.  Our next step up the property ladder will be close to Toronto, because my H HATES his commute.

I was born on the coast of Central California, and spent buttloads of time in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. I also lived all around Utah. I moved here to Wyoming for grad school and met my FI. We both love living here and never want to leave. But, we know we have to since there isn't anyone left at the University that works in our specialties. So, we'll leave next summer when we move on to our PhD programs. The things we love about Wyoming are, low population density, lots of wilderness, hunting, fishing, and almost 4 seasons (only 2 weeks of summer). So, we're considering places like Montana and Alaska next. I'd just die in the flatlands.

[QUOTE]To all: Why do you live in the states/location that you live in? Name something great about living there! Is it family? Weather? I'm in Hamilton, ON.  I've always live in Ontario, and most of my life near Hamilton.  I lived in the city I worked in when we were renting, but when it came time to buy, the further you get from Toronto the cheaper real estate is (unless you go so far you're in cottage country, like Anysunrise) and Hamilton allowed us to get much more house (and yard) for our dollar.  Our next step up the property ladder will be close to Toronto, because my H HATES his commute.

I'm in Hamilton too! I didn't realize you lived out this-a-way. I thought you lived out more toward Toronto...nice!

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Ask a knottie.... : Hell, I'm only 24 and that's already me. H and I were in bed at 9 last night. I hate ebing out late at night. I like being home in my comfy PJs curled up on the couch with H and the cat.
