I flame the obvious, Mr. Whit.  He needs to pull his head out of his balls and get a clue.

  • I flame heatherbaker for saying getting pregnant while unmarried is okay, but actually giving birth while unmarried is not. People have babies unmarried all the time and it isn't any reflection on who they are as a person.

  • Yes, and I flame that idiot who told Whit that she shouldn't even consider divorce.  Ugh.  I'm mad all over again.
  • I flame gelderman in Whit's thread yesterday. Divorce is never an option? Really? Get out of the fucking 14th century.
  • Jinx, Heelsie!
  • I flame the girl who said that divorce/anullment is never the answer.  I'm completely against divorce but there are still some circumstances where it is absolutely necessary.  Don't pull the Christianity card because all know that's crap.

  • I was raised Catholic, and was taught that there are only three reasons for divorce.  The 3 A's: Addiction, Abuse, and Adultery.  While that's the standard I will live by personally, I have never in my life judged someone else for being divorced for any reason, and to my knowledge, neither has anyone in my devout Catholic family.  That was absoulutely out of line.

I agree with KK, and yes, Night, I think that mental abuse can be every bit as cruel and manipulative as physical, and just as much cause for divorce/annulment.

Actually, I don't remember.  It's been a long time since grade school religion class when I learned that.  I would assume any type of abuse would be reason for divorce, but I don't technically know what the church excuses.

  • Kentucky Kate- I agree with the reasons you listed. I would consider Whit's situation to be potentially abusive, especially since she was actually afraid of him at one point.

That's the kind of organized religion stuff that really gets to me.  I mean, who decided that?  Is the three A's thing in the Bible?  What if you just  hate each other?  What if a million scenarios that don't fall into the 3 A category?  You're just supposed to stay in a hateful failed marriage forever or risk going to hell?

I saw this too, and it made me extremely angry.
I'm also not Catholic, and frankly, stuff like this makes me glad I'm not.
*Disclaimer: I don't judge all Catholics, nor do I think every Catholic is a nut. But this decision qualifies as nutty in my book.

A lot of things in organized religions aren't decided by the Bible.  They're decided at Diocesan conventions.  Hating each other doesn't count as a good reason to divorce because you made a commitment to God till death do you part. You're just expected to work it out and deal with it, I think.
