[QUOTE]I think that people were just happy that the English thread the other night didn't devolved into, "Oh yeah! We'll you're stupid!" "And your feet smell!" As for the actual opinions expressed, I remain disturbed and saddened. I also like LFT a lot better than FFF. Whoever is going to make secret complaints about LFT being groupthink needs to fuckoff. LFT is healthy, especially given that we can all get mad at each other sometimes.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: FFF? : That's what I don't get. I've never HEARD of anyone coming here and saying, "Well, now I get to sit on my fat ass and get everything handed to me because I'm in AMERICA. Everyone better learn my language to accomodate me. And give me some free healthcare and benefits while you're at it." In my experience, this is NOT the life of a recent immigrant. And I live in a place with a lot of first generation immigrants (and undocumented workers) and it's really softened my stance towards them to see how they live and actually interact with them on a pretty much daily basis.

See, I actually said that in the post and no one commented on it.  It alarmed me that there is any suggestion that people do not WANT to learn English, are making no effort to learn it, or EXPECT to get by not speaking English.

As for AZ, this is just another reason for me not to go there.  They might think I'm an illegal Dominican or something.  It will be like after 9/11 when I got pulled out of the security line EVERY TIME I flew (once or twice a week) for a year.

Blueyed - You said you respectfully disagreed with my statement that regardless of immigration status, everyone in this country should be both (1) held to our laws and (2) protected by our Bill of Rights.  If I misunderstood, I apologize; I interpreted your response the same way Mery did.

True Sarah, and it only happens once in a great while, and not every week like FFF. Given that the ratio of vitriol to love on this board is typically 4 to 1, I like LFT. And I consider it to be no more groupthink than a FFF. People can bandwagon either way, you know.

I was disappointed to see so many people I like a lot on this board say things that sounded so entitled on the English thread. If you're passed over for a job because you're not bilingual, and the company prefers someone that speaks both English and Spanish, you just don't have the qualification they want for the position. Just like when immigrants come here and can't speak English; they're not going to get a job for which English fluency is a requirement for the position.

And I gotta hand it to you Meg, there are a few people bouncing back and forth between E and the board formerly known as SB, and I really wish they'd just stay there.  I don't know how you do it.

I think Blueeyed needs to read her posts before she actually posts them.  I've seen a few things from her that were obnoxious, and she's invariably called out, and she invariably says she was misunderstood.  Either you're backpeddaling, or your fingers and your brain aren't on the same page.  It's not that we're all always wrong.  The common item is you.

I still don't understand lolcat speak.  It isn't a language.  Haz is no more effective than typing have.  It's one extra key on your keyboard.  Suck up the .00001 calories of energy it takes to move your finger and type with words instead of like an imbecilic kitten.

I flame anyone who followed Capri to other boards to harass her about the P2 thing.  I'm not condoning what she said, but as we established in the bullying thread, she has a right to not apologize if she isn't genuinely sorry (unless that right only applies to Nebb for some reason).   I think deep down she was really bothered by a lot of the comments, so if that's what you were after, congrats.  Mission accomplished.

BTW, Kiki, I'm not talking about your post on SB.  I think that dead horse has been beaten enough. Smile
