Tarra, can you make me married to a Muppet Overlord in one of my wedding pics, please?

Seriously. We must have this now. Must.

You'll never be subject to a cash bar, gap, potluck wedding, or b-list if you marry a Muppet Overlord.

  • I got flagged. Really?! *snicker*
Me too, for telling Addie she made me happy.  Brought a single tear to my eye.  :D

Made me a little emotional, too...today I got my first flag. I will remember this day forever. *sniffles* Sorry, give me a minute.

  • I think a professional photographer should be smart about creating good backgrounds in photos since we are paying them. I think I am done with this discussion...it's not going anywhere and everything keeps getting twisted around with what I am saying.
Your photographer isn't going to pick up your things in the room "to create a good background" for several reasons: 1) it's NOT what you're paying them for - you're paying them to take pictures; 2) if your photographer had been moving all your stuff you probably would have been like, "hey, why are you touching all my stuff and moving it around?" and 3) YOU are responsible for telling them what you want pictures of, where you want them, and who you want to be in them. Your photographer is just following orders. YOUR orders. Sorry if you didn't tell him/her to get more pics of you with these people in a different place.

PPs are correct... all copyright aside, there's no way to fake these pictures and make them look real. It sucks and I'm sorry that you don't have better pictures with these people. Maybe someone in the WP or your family has some good ones at the reception or going to the ceremony, etc. If not and this is the ONLY picture of you with these people, try to focus on the faces and how happy you were to be sharing that moment with them... not on the hairbrush and make up bag in the background. Who cares?

  • @Starfish320 - My personal opinion of what you're wanting to do aside, my mother is a photographer and master digital manipulator and what you are wanting to do is very, very difficult and expensive, and most likely won't look natural, regardless of how talented your photographer is. In order to make the edits you're talking about look even marginally believable, the splicing is just the beginning. There is color correction, fixing the shading by hand, etc. that has to happen, and I'm guessing it would take my mother 4-6 hours per picture to do what you're wanting. And at $50+ an hour, it's going to get expensive very quickly.

  • It amazes me how many people think photoshop is the be all, end all. Photoshop cannot just do anything with the click of a button. It takes hours to do things like that. I had to remove a person from a photo once and I think it look me 4-6 hours just on the one person. Deleting and replacing an entire background is a monumental task. Then to try and fix lighting, angles, and size proportions take another who knows his long.

We get it, you don't want to hear it, but seriously: this will cost a LOT of non-refundable money to do: buying the rights to your photos from your original photographer (which will be a few hundred dollars on its own), paying the $50-$100+ an hour, each individual picture taking several hours to complete.

Completely low-balling all of the numbers, let's say the photo rights cost $200, you find a photographer that will do it for $50 an hour, each photo takes only 4 hours to do and you get 3 photos done, you're already looking at $800. And that is incredibly undershooting everything...in reality, your total is more likely going to end up in the $1500-$2000 range. And there's an excellent chance that you're going to hate the results anyway.

If you really want to spend $1,000+ for a couple of photos of you and your BMs, then by all means, go for it...but don't say nobody warned you when you're ticked off that you spent a ton of money for a couple of pictures that look fake,

I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for photographers or graphic designers that are affordable? I am looking for someone to edit the background of my photos, so basically some of the pictures with the bridesmaids are in an ugly dressing room and I want to edit them to be in our chapel area instead. Let me know if you have any recommendations. Thanks!
This is so strange.  Why not just photoshop them in front of The Eiffel Tower or something?  If you're going to do it you might as well go all the way with it.

I agree. You're thinking too small OP. You have already decided to have your pictures represent moments that didn't happen. Why would you settle for changing the background from the dressing room to the chapel?

I would like to submit my candidacy to be your photo editor. I don't have any experience in graphic design, but I do have an outdated edition of photoshop. Let me show you some mockups:

Soup, you forgot to add Addie and the Muppet Overlord.

  • How come I never get flagged? Here, I'll try.

If I have my period at my wedding I'm going to tell my photographer to reach up there and adjust my tampon. I need to look perfectly comfortable in my photos.

@Starfish320 I've got some photoshop skillz. If you can get me a document from your photog that says you have the rights to edit any/all of the/these specific pictures, I'll do it for you. Flat rate for up to 7 pictures is $4k. I only accept cash.

ETA: Oh, and I require a 50% deposit before I do any work. And sandwiches made to my exact specifications. And I require that someone is there with a hot towel, and cucumber water. And a palm tree fan.

  • Starfish320 I know an amazing graphic designer here in LA that is also doing my pictures. He is affordable and has done work for major radio stations as well as Nike. Tell him you are a friend of "Sydney's"...that I recommended you contact him. I was a graphic designer for over 10 years, and not only can this be done, it might come out to be a creative work of art that you can share with your bridesmaids. Don't let the negativity of the people on this board keep you from getting what you want. I would consult with an actual graphic designer, and THEN they can tell you if this can be done, and if it is worth the money. Here are some shots of his "fantasy" work... Here is his Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/jkodd/

And if he can't do it for your price, hit me up again and I will do it for you...just to piss off these haters!! Good luck sweetie! I hope you can find what you are looking for!

  • @Divinewords, did you miss the part where an actual graphic designer and photographer gave their opinions for free here?

And I'd laugh hysterically if my friend gave me a massively photoshopped getting ready picture from her wedding day.

  • @PDKH Honestly, I didn't bother looking through 4 pages of adults bickering about what they feel someone else needs to do for their pictures. She asked a question and I gave her the information she was looking for. Don't pull me into this petty fight. I am trying to help her. If this is what she wants, it's up to her whether or not she wants to spend the money or not. All she asked for were recommendations and contacts and that's what I gave her. Seriously...grow up--all of you.

Both the photographers and videographers that I have spoken with said that I would be provided with a CD of the images that I OWN--and I am able to do with as I please. Not everyone has the same policies.

#2) What one graphic designer/photographer will not or cannot do, another will. I live in LA. You can find artists a dime a dozen...and many of them are flexible with their terms and will also work with your budget. I have found many myself, and I have had no problem with them being flexible with me.

#3) These are work samples. She will not be a mermaid, unless she wanted to...and if she wanted to make her whole wedding album into mermaids and mermen, that is under her discretion and hers alone. He is very versatile. I just picked a few pictures that I could find in the 1 minute I dedicated to my research to show her of pictures where the background was altered. Stop being a DB.

It's not up to us to decide what someone else wants to do. Period.

You don't have a copy of her contract either. You may have printing rights, but that does not mean you can fundamentally alter the photo. Printing rights are totally different.
It is unwise to give her legal advice in this scenario; you could be encouraging her to violate federal laws.

To the bolded, why post in an internet forum if she doesn't want opinions in deciding what to do?

Nope. You own them as is. You may print them or post then on Facebook. You cannot edit them. They are your photographers work. You cannot change them in anyway. Also, any respectable graphic designer would look for a clause in the contract stating she can edit the photos, not just that she owns them.

@PDKH I never claimed to have a copy of her contract. I stated, and very clearly might I add, that "That is a legality she will have to figure out on her own". I am not giving her legal advice, I am giving her the contact info of a graphic designer with samples of his work. THAT'S IT. I am saying that she will have to figure the legalities out on her own. That's for HER to do. She has already been advised by members of this forum that she should check her contract to make sure it's ok w/ the photographer first. Don't make up an argument and then argue against a false argument. (<---strawman argument)

Where in here did she ask for opinions on whether or not she SHOULD or SHOULDN'T do this??

I'm just saying that you called us all haters and recommended a friend of yours without one regard for intellectual property law. And then called me a douche bag.

ETA; Also ironic to call us all haters but then accuse us of being catty.
