Re: Show us your plus size wedding gown!

  • Yes, in champagne. It's gorgeous. I never, ever wear strapless or sleeveless in public. I wanted a dress with sleeves but fell in love with everything else about this one. It's also a November wedding so it may be chilly. All of that said, if I can't find or make one (I knit and crochet) that I truly love, I'll skip it.

I NEVER go sleeveless either.  I never go strapless, because I'm so busty I can never find a strapless bra to keep the girls up.  But, once I found a good longline bra, and I got proper alterations, those girls weren't going anywhere!   And I found that most boleros just looked like I was trying to cover stuff up, instead of being flattering to the dress.      I'm sure your arms are fabulous !
  • @QueerFemme you really are just the very best. <3

Thank you so much! I love it!
  • I have seen a few women on here with Alfred Angelo dreses, I  love the Disney collection, especially since I am having a Disney theme wedding, But my question is, did you ladies get to try on the style from Alfred Angelo in a size that fit you?

I haven't gone shopping and I am super nervous they won't have a sample AA dress for me to even try on...HELP I am worried about the same thing at any store.

I went to try on some of the Alfred Angelo Disney Fairy Tale dresses - the shop I went to had the Disney line from size 18 and down; it really depends on the shop (I'm not sure about AA stores themselves).  They were able to shimmy me into some dresses that were 3 or 4 sizes too small.

If you go to an Alfred Angelo store, instead of a salon that just carries AA, you'll have a better size selection.  Check on their website for a list of the stores. there aren't a ton of them, but they often have sample dresses in larger sizes (I had some friend try on up to size 24-26 samples at their store)
  • I live in Michigan, Haven't found just an Alfred Angelo store. I may walk in a bridal shop near  me that is listed as a carrier and if I feel uncomfortable just walk out. haha. Thanks ladies!

By the way...everyone looks so stunning! I hope I look just as amazing on my day.

I don't know how far you are, but AA has a store in Grand Rapids. Maybe a road trip?

  • @DamarisV my cousin got married in the second of the two dresses, it's very pretty. Which neckline do you feel more comfortable in?
  • Thank you, I too like the second dress but I have to be honest I purchased the 1st dress already. I been having second thoughts for quite some time .
  • @silverglitter05- both necklines are great but it's just something about dress 2 that is pulling me. I haven't tried on the 2nd dress in a few years. I was original set to get wed in 2012 but due to family emergency we pushed it to 2014. I purchased the 1st dress back in 2011, the 2nd dress is no longer in stock but I have found the dress online. I am just so torn right now. I am not sure if the 2nd dress will still look good on me.
  • @lday2924 I love the dress! You look very pretty.
I think that was meant for me...thank you.  I was a little hesitant when I first put it on as I'm VERY top heavy but I think with some hip/butt pads I'll be good to go
  • @lday2014 That's what I get for typing on my ipad!  Yes, it was meant for you and I cannot tell you are top heavy at all in that dress!

If it makes you feel any better, I had major dress regret for months and even bought a second dress. I ended up sticking with my original dress. Trust your first instinct. You bought that dress for a reason.

I can't believe I haven't looked at this thread in ages!  @Grumbledore - Your dress is beautiful!  I agree completely with QueerFemme.  Ditch the bolero.  I'll be honest, when I clicked on your dress pic to make it bigger, I saw the bolero first.  I should be seeing your dress first.   It's one of my pet peeves with boleros and coverups.   They draw more attention to what you're trying to hide.

As for temperature, our wedding was in mid December, 40 degrees....we took photos outside for about an hour.  No bolero, no shawl......and I wasn't cold.  I was running on adrenaline.  :D  I do think it's acceptable to have something on for some cute outside pictures though.  Just don't do it as a coverup for indoors.
