    And this brings up a good point - If the song wasn't creepy in the first place, why would the lyrics need to be changed?
    Because it's not appropriate for children to be having a cigarette or drinking an adult beverage.

    Sorry, I should have clarified that I wasn't talking about this particular version. That was my fault.

    There are other, adult versions where the rapey lyrics have been changed. I can't recall which specific ones, but I will look it up.

    She was using that as one part of an analogy.

    Her point is that people choose to interpret a variety things in a variety of ways.  The people who believe vaccines cause autism choose to ignore the scientific data in their interpretations, they don't believe they are making up anything.

    Sorry. I didn't listen cause my personal skezzy feelings aside, I don't like the song that much, my store used to play it year round. The last fucking song I want to hear sweating my tit's off in July is "Baby It's Cold Outside"

    I didn't mean to imply that popular opinion = right. Not at all. Only that I don't appreciate being treated like I pulled this crazy ass theory out of the blue and no one sees it but me (or the few of us).

    I am under no delusion that my interpretation can't be wrong. It might be, but my opinion is that it isn't. Your opinion is that it is. And we are both allowed to have those opinions without one having to be labeled as dumb (which I realise wasn't said by you, but it is really sticking with me. I don't like being accused of belittling people with different opinions than my own).
    Sorry but I do feel like you and others with our opinion are belittling us that don't have the same opinion.  It makes it feel like those of us who do not see the rape aspect in this song are just perpetuating this rape attitude that our world has.  That is not cool.  Just because I don't agree with your (general) interpretation of a song doesn't mean that I am all "yay rape!"  I just think that this song is not about rape at all and that there are a hell of a lot worse songs out there to get so heated over.
    Well, I'm certainly not and I don't like being accused of calling someone dumb for their opinion. I absolutely did not and would not.

    In regards to the implication that you are perpetuating rape culture, I do apologize that it came off that way. Like I explained to PGL, I originally got the impression that people (I honestly don't know if it was you) were disagreeing that trying to coerce a woman who said no with a drink was rapey. Because it 100% was. But I recognize that this was not the case. What's actually happening here is that you and others are not interpreting it as him disregarding her no, but as a woman who does want to stay and he is reassuring her that it is okay. Which again, I don't think is correct. But that's MY opinion and interpretation, and it's okay that it isn't yours. I do apologize that I implied otherwise.

    That I can apologize for. I see how you could get that impression from what I said. But I definitely did not mean for it to sound like I was taking offense to different interpretations. I was taking offense to a comment early on that seemed like "date rapey-type stuff is harmless" I do realize not that that was not what was intended, as I have said several times. But still, I never said anyone else was dumb for their opinion and that just pisses me right the fuck off.
