I decided to put off more school for awhile, which made my anxiety levels drop like crazy! I bought an amazing cute suit yesterday for my honeymoon to aruba!!! I am ready to be married.

@lolo0403 do you have any names picked out yet? I haven't been on banter in forever

My brain is so foggy today. I just pictured you in Aruba wearing this:

I am actually kind of pissed off, haha. FI interviewed for a job with the city a couple weeks ago, and I found out late last week that the whole job search was a scarecrow. Essentially they created the job for one of the city councilman's buddies six weeks ago, stuck it in a stupid department for it to be in to keep people looking too hard, interviewed some people so they could say, "look, we interviewed a bunch of people for this!" and then gave the job to the city councilman's buddy. Who is not qualified, from what I'm told. -.-

GOOD NEWS THOUGH I THINK I GET A GARDEN! Yay! Garden! What veggies should I plant? I want to plant them alllllll so I need good veggie opinions. I'm planting yellow squash and zucchini and tomatoes and strawberries and I am super super excited and when it quits raining I'm'a DO ALL THE GARDENING.

Ahhh Aruba! That's my favorite island. I've been there 6 times and each time is still amazing. Share whenever you come back what you did, I love hearing stories.

    **sorry for the threadjack everyone**

Do you have recommendations for stuff to do while you're there?  Favorite Restaurants? FI's parents have been to Aruba several times, and they are the type that would just like to lay at the beach all day but my parents are really wanting to do some stuff while they are there the 4 days before the wedding...

  • Congrats @lolo883 on the job offer!

The weather is AMAZING here today - I think in the 60s?  I went out for a 2-mile walk over lunch and maybe can convince FI to go on another walk tonight so I can justify wine.  Tomorrow is my last weigh-in with measurements after the weight loss challenge at our fitness center so I'm trying to be accountable with my stuff.   I was down 9 pounds last week since we started, but today I'm UP 3, so I don't know how the hell that works.

Found out yesterday that according to KS state law, I can collect unemployment benefits after I quit my job since I'm quitting due to my spouse's military relocation.  Now I won't feel as bad since I'll be pulling in at least a little bit of money after I quit my job until I find a new one!

Our wedding is 5 weeks from Saturday - we go this weekend to the venue to go over final details and stuff, and give them more monies.

FI got a kick-ass tax return so that will go to paying for the honeymoon!

  • Congrats on the offer, Lolo!

Life is pretty decent--the weather is getting warmer, I just bought new shoes (2 pairs, technically, which means I have to throw 2 pairs away, but I can do it). FI just got home from a week away, so I am happy he's back!

We had a huge zucchini plant last year and it was awesome! Make sure you check it for squash bugs on a daily basis, though, cuz those assholes kill stuff fast and come out of nowhere.

Broccoli is really fun/easy to grow, and so are green beans. We had more green beans than we knew what to do with.

Last year we added a yellow tomato plant along with the big beef steak tomatoes and the cherry tomatoes.

The yellow ones are delicious! I'm trying to think of what else we did... We grew pumpkins but those aren't good if you have limited space. Our spinach didn't do so well because it's a cold weather crop and I planted it at the wrong time.

I love love love our herb garden, though! Are you doing any herbs? I used a lot of basil, dill, rosemary, and cilantro for cooking, and then I had a giant mint plant for mojitos :)

    I should adopt this.

This is the first week in our new house and I've actually been enjoying unpacking. I just didn't realize how much junk I had until we had to move it all! Pretty sure H thinks I'm a packrat.

I had to adopt this rule when my multiple shoe racks overflowed and FI was not having it. He is totally correct, but like...what if I totally end up wearing that one pair of killer heels sometime maybe? (I wear boots and sneakers almost exclusively. The killer heels will not be worn. I have a problem).

I recommend going to the city, Oranjestad. There is a central mall (can't miss it, it's basically the city) with restaurants (Iguana Joes is awesome, there's a big sign and it's like a covered patio eating area on the 2nd floor corner of the mall, overlooking the street and ocean is across the street). I stay at the Marriott Stellar Casino. There's an awesome casino in there to play if you get bored of the outside. The pool is amazing, in-pool bar you can swim up to. Beach is right behind the pool with a restaurant to eat on the beach at.

If you walk down the beach and go to the Holiday Inn (or take a quick taxi there if you don't want to walk), there's another mall plaza you can walk around at and eat. There, at night, is really fun to walk along the streets because vendors come out and sell items from their carts and it's a fun atmosphere and there's always music playing.

A must- California Lighthouse for a sunset dinner. It's a taxi ride to the edge of the island, and it's on top of a hill so you can see (basically) the whole island, and you can eat outside and take pictures of the sunset. And there's a spot people can go stand at (away from the people eating) and take pictures of the sunset behind you. Best to make reservations, italian food, I love their chocolate mousse and wine selection is awesome.

  • Thanks @beethery for the reminder, I'm 10 months out too!

Just booked our honeymoon in the Riviera Maya/Cancun area so I'm pretty pumped for that! Swim up bar, I am ready for you!

Am also loving the heat wave of 40-50 degree weather!
  • H and I got back from our two week honeymoon on Saturday and didn't spend as much money as I had feared. The honeymoon and paying back our savings accounts are our last financial obstacles before we move across the country. Looking online, I found a job that would be PERFECT for H and it pays more than he's currently making. Tonight we make him a resume and cross our fingers!

We did our taxes on the weekend and we're getting back about half of what we've budgeted for our honeymoon. We had been talking about forgoing the honeymoon after FI had a paycut and there's a 75% chance that I will be getting one too.

But with the money from the tax return to help, it makes the honeymoon still in our budget so we're pretty sure we are just going to say screw you economy, we're going to Paris!

We've never been able to afford to go on a vacation before (besides weekend camping trips) so we are really looking forward to a big trip as kind of a reward for our hard work to not only get debt free, but pay for our entire wedding and have a decent sized house downpayment saved up. After 3 years of scrimping I think we've earned it.

    Helllllo Paris.

YES I'm doing herbs! I'm probably going to do herbs separate from my veggies though. We have lots of sad ungreen porch railing. If I can convince the big dog not to eat the herbs, I'm going to greenify the porch railing and the side beds and anywhere I'm able to convince my parents they don't *really* need grass.

I thought about planting chocolate and coffee. But they take too much work once you pull them off their respective trees. Plus - cacao pods are fucking scary looking:

I'm glad you ladies are all having such nice days! Despite my etsy grumbling earlier, mine has been good overall. It's about 45 degrees in Boston, which is amazing, a coworker brought mini snickers to a meeting (and the bowl was conveniently placed next to me), and we've got hockey tickets for Saturday!

Um that pod is freaking terrifying.

That's what we did for the herbs. We had this weird awkward half walkway thing. Basically just a short little strip of sidewalk that led to nowhere. So we lined it with planter boxes and put all our herbs there, and they did really well. The mint got its own separate pot since that stuff takes over everything.

That is hilarious that your dog eats the herbs! My sister had a dog that ate cherry tomatoes, but only the ripe ones. As soon as they turned red he'd pull em right off the plant. It was too funny/cute to even be mad at him.

IS IT NOT?! Mikenberger made me feel a little bit better about it, but I swear it looks like a huge caterpillar to me.

I've never had herbs with him around, so I dunno if he'll eat them or not. I'm just worried he will. He ate blueberries all the time off our bushes. Hopefully he's not interested in herbs though.

  • It's high 40's here and that is amazing! My deck may be usable by the end of the week!

H started a new job last week. It's a sales job so it's nerve wracking starting off as he has never done B 2 B sales before and needs to grow his business contacts fast. Base is a lot higher then the last sales job and once we get commission coming it that will be more as well. It's just a big change right now. Plus he works from a home office now so having him home all the time has been great as he is able to help out more around the house then he could while at the last job (being gone 9am-9pm M-Sat makes it tough to do much else).

Which leads to my next thing. Having him home more with the prospect of making more money has really got my baby brain going now. People talk about the switch flipping and I think mine has started. Better yet, H talks about it now with me. He hates planning more then 2 weeks out for ANYTHING so talking about future children is always too far in the future then he wants to discuss. But lately we have been having conversations about it, envisioning it and even nailing down a time frame (maybe this fall to TTC??!). It makes me feel so happy to start to feel this way and even better that H is getting closer to! <3

I don't have much going on today...but I did find out I have to actually attend the fancy dinner I'm planning for some work execs in a couple weeks (which...okay, top-shelf booze and fancy dinner and live music at the nicest hotel in the city, it's not exactly the worst thing I've ever had to do even if I'll be wrangling people the whole time) and so I have to go shopping for a suitable dress tonight.

I have lots of cocktail dresses but every single one of them is cleavage-y, and I have work-appropriate day dresses that are not super formal, so I need to find something with a conservative neckline and hemline in an evening fabric. I was just looking on Modcloth but I didn't find anything that caught my eye so I think I'm going to hit the mall tonight. It's kind of nice to have an excuse to buy clothes though.

    So, yay, shopping?

And also yay at decent weather finally. And we're taking a long weekend this weekend because it's FI's birthday on Saturday, so we're going to ski for three days instead of two. And I get to take him out for dinner at the rodizio place he's obsessed with on behalf of my parents, which means $16 caipirinhas, which is also worth being happy about, haha.

  • My day has just become annoyed. Ok the campus had to be shut down, that's no big deal. But that reset everything so the museum alarm started to come on. My coworker/friend was in the building so she called the police to turn off the alarm. The police showed up HOURS later because they thought no one was in the building so it didn't seem "urgent". Are you kidding me?! We could have been robbed and the police thought oh no big deal. I'm fuming right now. End Rant.

  • We have beautiful weather today! 60s and not a cloud in the sky! I wish I could be outside to enjoy it but at least I can see it from the window.

I'm super nervous today because I have my thesis defense meeting tomorrow. I don't really think it will go badly but I've put so much into this project and I've been trying to schedule this meeting for months now. I just can't believe I'm so close to the end!

Also, SO got a new job! He's so excited. It's way more money and comes with benefits.

  • Congrats on the offer!
It's in the 60s in SoDak today! Fi hurt his ankle really bad and I have a bad head cold but it's spring break for me so oh well.
Two  weeks until puppy gets to come home with us! :)
