Omg ashley I lol'd hard at those.

As a horse person, I wish the horse thing wasn't so cheesy. A horse that's been evading humans forever can easily outrun some dumbass zombies. Also the constant rearing and neighing- horses don't really do that. They get the fuck out of there. Bah. But that's basically every show/movie involving a horse ever, so there's that.
I wondered if one of the zombies had been its owner, and that's why it didn't run.

Ugh! THIS!! Big, beautiful, healthy horse getting "caught" by zombies wasn't at all believable.

Decent episode over all, though. I, too, love "I'm gonna getcha" Carol.

SO MUCH THIS. As if horses just sit around neighing at everything... and don't have a flight from fright mode. And we really had to see another one go down?! Sad.

  • I hate crude animal death scenes and I was traumatized at that scene. I cried.

As for the rest of the episode, IDK i get a weird feeling about the town and their plan to double cross them . I think its going to backfire

  • It's so strange to me that everyone is so freaked out about a horse death when people die super violently all the time in the show.

    wtf you guys

I hadn't thought of that, although if I turned into a zombie, my horse would be all EFF YOUUUUU BYEEEE

I always feel a bit more of a jolt when an animal dies. IDK, I guess it's less expected. If I watch a show like TWD or a war movie or something I expect to see people die. Horses in battlefields in particular make me sad because the horses are just doing what the people are telling them to.

Then there's I am Legend nooope.

You are definitely right. It seems silly but it got to me.

I think the reason it freaked people is because we watch a show about people running away from and getting violently killed by zombies. So when it's a beautiful animal it throws you for a loop.

    But you are right, wtf?

A horse is an innocent beautiful creature, a human is just meh most of the time so no I am not going to get worked up over a human death on TWD (I'd be bawling at every scene?).  Some scenes in tv shows and movies disturb some people while others it doesn't really faze them.  For example, I was watching Untraceable the other night (spoiler alert coming) and a kitten was killed by the guy luring him/her onto a glue trap.  That fucked me up.  The people getting murdered?  Meh.

I didn't cry or anything (people do this?), it just felt a little different. Maybe it's the whole pseudo-inability to defend itself (like, cant just stab them in the head or shoot them) thing?
  • I never said pets' lives are more valuable than a human's, just that I don't hold human lives on a pedestal above other animals, but I see your point.
Can I come at it from another angle?  Some scenes disturb some people while they are completely fine for other people.  For someone I know, seeing hanging people in film is horrible for them.  But heck, if you watch enough TV you're going to see a lot of people murdered, rape and animal abuse is less shown, I believe.  So, you are more expecting/used to seeing dead people.

Yeah... I grew up with horses and I'm an animal person. Like, I'm one of those annoying people who thinks my dogs are my kids, and who goes out of their way to rescue strays and shit. When the horse died I said, "Aw that's sad." Which is what I said when Dale died, and when Hershel died. No tears were shed. It's sad. It's a tv show. Moving on.

I grew up with lots of animals that we ate

    Bunnies are DELICIOUS.

Not horses though. They kind of scare me. I was bit by one as a kid.

Maybe that's where my callous is coming from, lol.

  • often times people get themselves killed, seeing an innocent animal that can't defend itself bothers me. As wtf as it might be, I cringe and get sad at the thought or view of a dead animal but I am totally fine looking at dead people. Hence why I am going to be a Dr and not a Vet. I guess it depends on the person.

  • I think for me, it has to do with the innocence of the animal.  Someone mentioned horses being made to go into war.  People had (more) choice in the matter, but the animal was just there because it was forced to be there.  So when it dies, it really sucks.  I also have a hard time with baby anything.  I don't even like rats, but when I had to feed my BFF's snake pinkies, I was crying.  When I fed her bigger snake adult rats, I was totally fine.  I think I'd lose it with bunnies though, regardless of age.  I used to have some, and they were the best pets.

  • It's not that the animal death thing doesn't make me sad. It does. Usually way sadder than humans deaths, like PP have said. Just doesn't make me cry. I'm not a crier. Especially not for stuff like movies and TV shows. And in the grand scheme of things, I'm never wrapped up enough in a show to feel like the horse really died to the point that I get upset and cry. It's a show.

See, I'm not usually a crier in real life, but books and shows and movies can get to me. Maybe I just let the cries out from everything else, haha.

  • The horse dying was not something I cried about either. Although I bawled like a baby when Darryl saw walker Meryl. That was intense.

Clearly I said they had more choice in the matter, not that they always had a choice.  I am well aware of the situations in other countries.

Oh yeah. I actually bawled at the end of that the last time I watched it, which surprised the hell out me AND FI. I was kind of drunk and it reminded me way too much of my shitty relationship with my dad.

  • The Notebook made me sob my face off, but only because my grandma was in a nursing home with Alzheimers at the time it came out, and my parents were going through their divorce. It was a lot of "theyyy'llll nevvvverrr haaavvvvve thaaaaat" kind of sobbing.

Although Scrubs gets me really frequently for some reason.

I hate Elliot too much to feel sad over that show, LOL

I know she gets less stuck up over time

  • I'm probably overthinking the horse scene, but what I had gathered was that the horse was somewhat de-sensitized to some humans because that guy had been trying to catch it for so long. They would get close, and then it would just escape. He said he felt bad, and Daryl said 'You were just trying to help it'. I think he felt bad, because if he had never 'met' the horse, it would have stayed scared of people, always running away, and wouldn't have been killed by the zombies.

I got that too, that the horse had gotten use to a person or people coming around. I still don't buy that a horse couldn't outrun slow staggering Zombies, but I get what I think they were going for.

  • H says it was in a pen and that's why it couldn't get away. It ran in and the zombies went for it and it didn't have an exit available.

Now I want to rewatch the scene (but don't really want to watch that again...)
