It was a pretty badass scene, where he went all Rambo on a giant crowd of zombies and saved that lady. But it was just another example of the Alexandrians being little bitches. I can't believe they just left her there to get eaten. WTF? They leave each other a lot. How are there any living people left in that community at all?

I was really suspicious that there were only like 10 people in that rather large fort. I think the fact that nobody helps each other out might explain the tiny numbers.

Yeah, selfish and cowardly can't get you too far in a zombie apocolypse

  • First reactions to that episode:

    WTF Gabriel?!?

    About time, Eugene!

    GO ABRAHAM!

I think if anything, this episode showed how weak and cowardly the majority of Alexandria is. The people of Alexandria are selfish. They put their own well-being and lives before the greater good of all and trying to save them.

Noah dying made me so sad. I really liked him and thought he was a great addition to the group. Just that morning he said he wanted to learn how to build the walls and keep them built. He had a journal and you saw it at the and it said something about, "This is the beginning."

I could see Eugene becoming a billy badass now, which would be awesome. I was so proud of him.

Abraham is the man. Plain and simple. @Larrygaga, I love your new sig.

I think the only reason Glen decided to bring Nicholas back with them is so that they don't come back without any of the Alexandria crew and maybe he'll back their story as to what really happened.

I KNEW Pete was beating Jessie, and Carol saw the signs from Sam. I really hope they just set that dick out in the wild and make him try to survive. But no, Carol is being a little crazy. You can't just kill people who do bad things, even if it is hard to separate your past from it.

  • The thing about Pete, though, is that he's an actual doctor. And their ONLY doctor, it seems. I bet the Alexandrians will not be so willing to get rid of him, even if he's a total piece of shit and beats his wife. A doctor is a huge asset.

The moment a society starts letting a person's "title" dictate their worth over their character is the moment it will decline.

I see how he is an asset to them, but seriously, why would you keep an abusive spouse or partner around? What happens if/when he kills his wife or son? Would they get rid of him then? If so,it's already too late at that point.

This is true, but we've now seen how cowardly/selfish/naive these people are. I can totally see them thinking that their need for a doctor trumps Jesse's safety and well-being. Or i can see them flat-out denying that Pete is abusing her. It could easily turn into an "us vs them" fight. "

"The new people are trying to stir up trouble and fuck things up for the community-- they want to boot our doctor out even though we all know and like him and we need him, and that's not ok! Fuck the new people!"

I mean, Pete has been there all along and it seems like no Alexandrian has an issue with him, sees that he's abusive, or wants him out. Why would that suddenly change now?

Especially how Deanna was lamenting that the new group is suddenly taking charge. When the construction guy came to her and said Abraham would make a better leader for the construction group, she sighed and said to Maggie, "Great, another one of you has been put in charge of us."

I see a lot of trouble with the new group (our group) having an issue with Pete.

This really confused me. It was HER idea. Why invite these people in if she doesn't want their protection? I'd be like, Alright, peace out bitch.

Same. You knew these people had something additional to offer in the form of badassery. You NEED them.

I think it's starting to bother her that they have such superior survival skills, that they could easily take over all the power in Alexandria, and I don't think she'd want to give up her own leadership/power. She's been the boss there since day 1.

I think she gave Rick and Michonne their police jobs as a strategic move-- give them a little power, gain their trust, get their cooperation, and meld them into the community quicker. But now they're getting lots of power just by default.

One review I read brought up a great point that Gabriel fits in with them perfectly. He left his congregation to die and still feels some sort of moral superiority over the rest of the group just because he hasn't hacked people to bits.

I thought about this too when he said, "You may think they [had to do things to survive] but that's not the truth." He's probably thinking he didn't have to kill anyone to survive and he made it just fine, but he did it by sacrificing his congregation, which it seems like is exactly what the people of Alexandria do.
At the same time, I'm confused by the strawberries/tearing up the bible scene. I'm not sure why he had that little mini-meltdown.

  • I always DL eps, so I end up watching them a day late and have to try so hard to avoid spoilers lol. Anyways, now that I've watched it...

I think the Abraham scene was a bit..scary. Not the correct word, but basically that he was SO happy to be back to be back hacking up zombies was a bit weird. Obv I'm glad he saved that girl, but he was having too much fun. It was also good to see him being a bit 'normal' while he was leading the team. Seems like he was slipping back into his pre-zombie self.

I really like Sam! He's so sweet, even when Carol was being a total bitch. I'm not sure if he or his dad broke the Owl. But when he says stuff like he breaks things when he's angry, sounds like he's learning from his dad.

I think Gabriel has gone off the deep end. Just because he didnt stab someone, doesn't mean he didn't kill them. He chose to lock the door and do nothing to help them, which to him is better. I don't agree.

I also don't think Deanna is going to be very happy to have the group come back without her son. I don't know if she will believe what they say (Nicholas & her son left their other group, Nicholas tried to desert this current group, tries to drive off without Eugene), because of what Gabriel said. I think it depends on how religious she is. If  she is more of a religious type, she may believe/take into consideration what Gabriel said. If she is not, she will think he's crazy and not care. I don't think Nicholas will say what actually happened. So it will be 1 old, trustworthy member vs 2 new guys.

Okay someone's job (a kid) needs to be to learn from the doctor. If that doctor goes down they are going to lose all that knowledge.

I was hoping gabe would be a cool guy and show that priests aren't always giant dick heads. But nah

But he's also a drunk.  What's the point in having a doctor if he can't work on you because he's too busy being drunk?  I think we're going to see this come into play next week regarding Tara's head wound.  Maggie and Carol will end up doing whatever bush medicine they learned from Herschel while Pete is standing there with his thumb up his ass.
  • MICHONEE WTF I LOVE IT

also sasha is super pregnant looking. That means either she was pregnant from bob or she is going to die soon.

  • Oh whoa I didn't notice. Although I looked it up and apparently the actress is super pregnant, and the show was shot in October/November it sounds like.

  • I'm kind of hoping that she gets to keep her baby and it will be bob's baby and that is another reason she is so screwed up. But prolly not. Either way she is now really annoying so something needs to change.

  • I'm getting sick of seeing the Ws. Ok, we get it. We've seen them. Now let them amount to something or shut the fuck up about it.

Also, I totally called it that the native Alexandrians would look the other way about Jesse being abused because Pete is a doctor! Have to gloat about that since I'm almost always wrong lol. Deanna knew it was going on, but said, "He's a surgeon!"

Don't really know what Rick thought he was accomplishing by losing it and waving his gun around at everyone....
    image
  • I do really understand the logic of keeping the man with the most important knowledge happy. It's a shitty situation all around.

I do not ever ever understand why they have people with valuable skills and nobody is learning from them. I would be right at the doctors side at all times learning shit. Or at the mechanic's. Noah, Carol and Beth were really the only ones in the entire series that showed any of that. I mean if they walk around all day they could talk and learn from each other.

I have a few skills up my sleeve I could most certainly pass on to everyone else, so if I die we don't lose them.
    Wedding Countdown Ticker
    image

  • I also have to go off on a bit of a tangent (sorry, I just have to) and say that I can't stand the way abuse is portrayed on this show, particularly in this episode.

Carol makes the claim that she was rescued from abuse solely because walkers killed her husband. Otherwise, she "wouldn't be standing here right now."

Then she claims they have to rescue Jesse from abuse by killing Pete. It's the only way.

So valiant Rick rushes in to save the day, and Jesse ONLY agrees to leaving her husband after Rick confirms having serious feelings for her by saying he wouldn't do the same for any other person. As long as another man loves her, then she'll leave Pete, and let herself be rescued. Ugh.

And Pete is the stereotypical raged out drunk. Drunk drunk drunk. Not all abusers are obvious, and drunk and angry. Not all of them would've raged at Rick like that (IRL). A lot of them are very kind, charming sociopaths who would have laughed and said, "My gosh, I'm not abusing my wife! Golly, I can't believe you would think such a thing! I could never hurt a fly!" Very deceptive. Not "AAARGH I BEAT HER AND I'LL KILL YOU LOOK HOW OBVIOUS THE ABUSE IS!!!"

This perpetuates some seriously dangerous misconceptions and stereotypes. No one IRL is gonna swoop in and rescue you, and YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE RESCUED. You're in an abusive situation? Then get yourself the fuck out. Stop waiting for a hero. Walkers and handsome rogue cops aren't gonna take care of you and do all the dirty work while you sit back and look pretty.

And you don't need another man to love you and devote himself to you in order to leave the previous man. Just fucking leave. Be lone, be single, and get the fuck out.

And just because someone isn't drunk and raging doesn't mean they aren't dangerous. People think if they don't see your SO behaving that way, then he must not be hitting you. Cuz it's supposed to look like in the movies, right? The big drama and the rage? Right?

    Makes me ragey.

    Anyway, rant over. Sorry.
    image
  • They really need to explain the W thing. We get it. Now explain it already!

Rick was acting like a fool by the end. I hated that "killing him is the only way" was his and Carol's attitude. Waving a gun around when you are already not trusted and the leader's son was just killed while out with your group will not win you any points.
    image Daisypath Anniversary tickers
  • I should add the guy is a dick but trying to join a society and then trying to have a death penalty brought in isn't a great move. Although I totally see Rick's point about not knowing when a person you exiled will be coming back for revenge.

I knew the other folk would know about the abuse but hearing they knew and didn't help also made me ragey.

  • Carl and Enid's little scene was so sweet. It was the highlight of the episode to me.

I knew Nicholas would lie about what really happened on the run and throw Glenn and the group under the bus.

    Sasha is losing it.

I hated Carol's "you're going to have to kill him" idea last week and hated it even more this week. No, killing someone is not the only way. Exile the bastard without any guns and food and let him fend for himself.

I still think they should get rid of him. I knew they would look the other way (as they have all along) because he's a doctor, but again, one's profession or usability does not eliminate the awful person they are. If anything, lock him up somewhere and make him treat people and if he complies, he can get food. Otherwise, get rid of him. Obviously, the old group and many others have survived without a doctor thus far.

The W's are driving me crazy, we need to know.

I didn't think Rick trying to help Jessie and then confronting Pete was the WORST idea, but obviously, we knew it wouldn't end well. I didn't even mind Rick and him fighting until he didn't stop. Like, okay fight, bust out the window and when everyone sees how crazy he is, STOP. No need to start waving a gun around, crazy. Rick is losing it too.

  • A similar situation happened in the comics and it still bugs me now. There's extra houses- why doesn't anyone separate them? Basically enact a restraining order? If he refuses, tell him it's that or exile. If he tries any shit, it's play nice or be exiled. Only an idiot would choose the latter. Not perfect, not a guarantee that Jessie will be safe, but it's a hell of a lot better than just looking the other way and ignoring it. Or killing him.

I was pretty disappointed when he said no, he wouldn't do it for anyone and that she was okay with that. Not where I thought that was going. He's just after the pussy. Fab.

  • Daryl and Aaron found torso-and-headless limbs, they were at Noah's home town too.  When they went to speed out of Noah's hometown with armless Tyreese, they ran into a car with only walker torsos and heads.  Someone is doing some collecting, like the Governor.  I'm guessing it's W-person.

Also didn't they show Rick's friend from episode one arriving at Gabriel's church and finding the map Abraham gave Rick to DC before they turned back and got everyone back together?  Could he have anything to do with this?  He was pretty nutso.  And Alexandria is pretty close to DC.  If he decided to follow along, he could have gotten  ahead of them since they stopped to rescue Beth and all.

I definitely have been thinking that either Morgan is doing the Ws or he's with the people doing the Ws (if it's a group). I'm usually wrong but who knows.

And the body parts that Daryl and Aaron found in this episode had been live people, not walkers, right? I think? Cuz the night before, they saw a light in the distance and Daryl said something about people being out there, and when they went to find them in daylight they were already chopped up and Daryl said it had just happened. I forgot about that part but I'm not sure if I followed it correctly.

  • I think Carl missed out on a makeout session with Enid because of his stupid hair.  Why the hell doesn't Jessie cut that too?

So my friends and I usually watch Talking Dead after the episode.  Daryl's gonna be on next week.  After the season finale.  This usually doesn't bode well.  Anyone think they'll actually kill off Daryl?
